Samsung Galaxy S II :: Camera Stop Working Show Only 'Camera Failed' Message
Jun 3, 2011I just bought this phone a few days ago. I am very excited and start playing with the camera. after a few shots and a few mode change, the phone freeze and restart. then i open the camera app again it shows only black screen and a camera failed message
i tried using other camera app but it's no use. the phone has no warranty in my country so i could not have a replacement.
been to the samsung service center also but still no luck.

Aug 9, 2012my samsung galaxy s2 is acting very weird lately.
here are the symptoms i encounter:
1. video randomly pauses - after ~20 to 30 seconds of playback, the back light turns off and immediately goes back on and resumes playback. this is regardless where the video is stored.
2. online videos (e.g. from Internet) randomly pauses - after ~20 to 30 seconds of playback, video is paused and streaming is also restarted.
3. camera momentarily freezes - video display turns off and immediately goes back on as if it has recovered from an error. same is encountered when using the front camera.
also, if you know the web browser 'dolphin', it has a feature of 'keep screen on' that will keep the back light on even if there is no activity on the phone. however, since my phone is acting weird lately, the backlight of my phone turns off after some time even if the 'keep screen on' feature is enabled.
this gave me an impression that the problem must be somewhat related to the backlight or memory. but i am not really sure. i tried to power off the phone, removed the battery, removed the sim, removed the sd, but the problem still persists.
this is annoying as hell because i cannot watch videos smoothly anymore and my video calls randomly stops.
other details of my phone:
- not rooted
- android version 2.3.3
- system storage 894mb free out of 1.97gb
- usb storage 5.66gb/ 11.5gb
- sd card 192mb / 1.9 gb
- ram ~400-550mb / 837mb

Jul 18, 2011is there any way of selecting the file type that camera image files and video files are saved as? I know that the SGS2 supports various file formats, but I can't find anywhere that actually lets you select the format type. I've checked through the manual, Googled and searched various forums without luck.

May 15, 2011Just updated via Samsung Apps the camera firmware to a CDE11 or something version. Took 4 minutes to update and flash this firmware. I wonder what exactly it changed in the camera firmware? Hopefully improved things or bug fixes.I will test a few videos and see if the bitrate has changed or not.

Jul 16, 2012my blackberry 9700 has been working fine until I resently changed to a new sim card and a new sd card I noticed each time I wanna take a picture or record a video it will send a message unable to start camera close other applications, I have done the soft and hard reset but it didn't help, tried the test on camera the flash test passed but the camera test failed. I don't know what else to do am just stocked with my BB without knowing .

Recently updated to V5.0.0.461 (Platform 5.2.0.42)My issue is when attempting to use my camera in the video format, I get "Failed to start recording"..I AM able to take pictures just fine. I have plenty of available memory as I have a 4 gig card with roughly 155 MB used. Obviously memory isnt the issue.
I havent seen any posts that state this issue or anything close as of yet. (Unless I missed it of course)My provider is TMobile - But the Software was from another provider. Overall, the phone has run fine on the 5.0.0.461 Software, a few things here and there but I have worked through them.

Jun 5, 2011Recording is fine with the stock camera app, BUT none of the other market apps I've tried can record in HD. e.g. 'aLapRecorderHD', 'Daily Roads Voyager', etc. The market Apps seems to record OK @ 720x480 or anything below.All of the apps I've tried produce corrupt HD video with green artefacts all over the screen. They all work OK on my Nexus1 @ both 720p & 1080pCould anyone with a newer firmware?, try one of the above market apps and see if HD video can be recorded?

Apr 28, 2012This is my first post and I'm new to the Galaxy S2. I took ownership of a new phone early this week (S2) and did the firmware upgrade over Kies - this seemed to make sense given that it was the official latest release firmware.
I tried to use BBC iPlayer last night. The first time I ran it, it said I needed Flash. It took me to the market and I downloaded Adobe Flash 11.0. I tried iPlayer again. All the menus, navigation etc work, but when I select a program it doesn't show any video. I don't even get the little triangle to click on to play it. I went to the iPlayer website and tried viewing from there - I assume that uses Flash as well, and all worked fine, video and sound.

May 6, 2015Ive been online and on the phone with samsung sense the day I got my S6 regarding the auto start (auto record) on the Video camera. on my S3 and S4 the option was always there to hit the record button after selecting video mode, on the S6, select video mode and boom it automatically starts recording. I could list off the 100 reasons why this is not good, but a few of the key ones are.. How does samsung expect us to be aimed and ready to go as soon as we hit video mode ?
When im shooting a video I like to get aimed up, positioned right and make sure im in good lighting and so on. just a few days ago I tried to get a quick video of an Eagle swooping down for a fish, amazing to see, by the time I hit video mode and acutally got him in the view of the camera I realized I was badly out of focus and the light would have made the video horrible. thats a spur of the moment shot, I understand that, not everything is going to be perfect.
However, I was recently at a birthday party for a 90 year old friend of the family, it was evening time with fading light, I had to select the camera mode and then stop the recording process 6 times before I was arragned in such a way that the light was ok and the image was clear and I could get the video of the cake and candles. this wouldnt have happened if the video didnt auto start, even on my old S3, you selected video, it got itself in focus then you hit the record button, so simple and easy. I could move the phone around to adjust for lighting or other variables for disturbing the quality of the Video.
why make a video auto start ?
as of 10 minutes ago Samsung still said they had no plans to change the software to disable the auto record.
I suggest, for the people who dont like it, so vote on here and pass it to Samsung, There is power in numbers. I like having the ability to have a video camera in my pocket at all times. but to have it auto record as soon as I select it, it just a stupid and pointless way of having it.
