I am really enjoying my Samsung Captivate. As a result I find myself running out of battery life during the course of a day. Beginning the day with a full battery, I only get about 2 hours of web browsing time, when doing browsing only. At that point I've only got about 20% battery left for making calls or sending email. Anyone care to comment on your Captivate Battery Run Times?

Does anyone know the effective battery life time when playing 720p h.264 mkv files with 100% screen luminosity and almost all the other features off (wifi, bluetooth, internet, etc)? Also, is there support for subtitles?
I am debating on what to buy, the Galaxy S or the IPhone 4.
I need 3.5 hours of video playback between charges.
I want to eliminate the video conversion step, so if the Galaxy S can eliminate it, that would be perfect.
I was wondering whether Motorola make any improvements or optimize battery life with the ICS update on the Photon 4g while web browsing using a 3g connection. I'm referring to this review by anandtech which mentions that the "Photon's EVDO stack may not be all that power optimized".
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have noticed the battery on my defy+ goes down to 90% from full charge within an hour. This is my 3rd charge and I charged it for 3 hour for the first time like it said in the user manual. After it goes to 90% the battery holds good charge. It lasted me 12 hours with me playing around on it all night. Also I had my phone on for 2 days and I checked the phone up time in the settings and it said 55 mins. So I don't know if it has been rebooting itself maybe because of updates or a problem.

How the battery performance is poor ( keep about two days), I thought to replace it with a BL-5CT battery 1050 mAh, 3.7 V and 3.9 Wh, or BL-5J battery 1320 mAh. Or even a BP-4L battery 1500 mAh ( that do not know if it fits ).Can I improve in this way life time during the talk and standby?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have had my Blackberry 9700 for about 5 months. In the beginning I would get about three days out of my battery, with normal use. About a month ago I noticed the data symbol operating all the time (data in and data out) and my battery started lasting less than a day (even on days that it was hardly or never used). I took it back to Telstra (Australia) who sent it away and then provided me with a replacement (with no explanation of what was wrong with the first one.) Unfortunately the new one does exactly the same thing!
I have been on numerous websites looking for an answer to no avail. I have tried all the battery saving hints and check I leave nothing open. I have rebooted daily, still to no avail. I am on the brink of tossing it and going back to Nokia, which is a great shame as I had been really enjoying my Blackberry until now. The nature of my business means that I have to have a phone that is reliable and will work for more than 12 hours away from a power source.
I feel something is operating behind the scenes but I have added nothing. I haven't even put my email on this new one yet and I am a little tech challenged so I have loaded no new apps or anything, it is as new.

Does anyone have any issues with the battery life on this thing? I just picked mine up from Bell about a week ago, and standby lasts maybe 48 hours. Its rated @ 250 hours and although I wouldn't expect to see that, this is a little ridiculous. 48 hours is sitting only. If I make a couple of calls, its basically dead in a day. This is with GPS / WiFi and Bluetooth disabled. The only aftermarket programs installed are Barcode ( which doesn't run when off ) and TaskPanel which allows me to kill background processes.
What I notice is that if I run TaskPanel and kill everything, and then the phone goes into standby. When I wake it back up and run TaskPanel again, I see Alarm Clock and Calender are running in the background. Neither have any stored events and I don't know if they are kicking in on wakeup, or right before standby and thus running in the background and killing the battery faster.
About 10 days ago, my Samsung R451C (Straight Talk) battery went dead. I thought that was odd, since I generally got four or five days service out of it before needing charging. So I put it on the charger and charged it up, and about six hours later the phone was dead again.I then purchased another OEM Samsung battery. Same problem; the phone needs recharged after five or six hours. Also, while fiddling with the phone, I noticed that I can no longer shut the phone off by pressing the PWD/END button--it shuts off and then immediately reboots back on.I called Straight Talk support and described my phone's battery life and power button symptoms. The rep immediately stated that Straight Talk would send me a replacement, making me wonder if there's a hardware or firmware problem in the phone they know about. However, the catch is that I have to send in my phone first and then they'll send the replacement, about a 15 day turnaround, according to the rep. I really don't want to be without a phone that long, so I'm looking at alternatives. Anyone have any experience with this sort of phone behavior before and have any suggestions for things I might try before sending the phone in for replacement?

Yesterday i let the battery drain all the way out so that i could completely cycle through. It ended up takeing a little over 3 hours to fully charge again. When I checked the battery usage it says Logcat is taking more usage then anything else including my screen. Ive never run this program, as apparently its for debugging code or something. However, 1 day last week I got the force close box come up for TW launcher as I took the phone off charge first thing in the morning. That day my battery was at 52% at the end of the day! I left phone turned on and charged as normal, next day the same, around 50% at end of day (same useage as always, same environment etc). So, next day I turned phone off / on and at end of day battery was around 30% again. To confirm my suspicions I force closed TW launcher and the next day back upto 50% remaining again...
View 6 Replies View RelatedI’ve got a BlackBerry Curve 8900 (ATT, running 4.2.0.108), and have had it since Oct. 2009. Battery life has always been OK - 24 to 48 hrs. between recharges.
Today though, after pulling it off the charger this morning around 8:00 a.m., I’ve noticed that I’m down to about 5% charge by 2:30 p.m. I have made no phone calls today, and have only sent/received a couple texts and rec’d two emails. I've never used a holster, have downloaded no apps, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are both off. No keys appear to be sticking. Absolutely nothing, to my knowledge, of any significance has changed on the phone since October, yet all of a sudden --literally, overnight --I am experiencing this greatly diminished battery life. The only even remotely precipitating factor I can think of is that I did a battery pull yesterday, after deleting some old photos and emails.
I’ve searched the forum, and most of the suggestions are along the lines of “turn off bluetooth/wi-fi/update OS,” but as noted, I never used those anyhow, and the OS has always been good to me.
I was wondering what people thought about this phone, and do you think it's worth getting ? I think it might be better than the few Android phones that at&t has so far ( backflip,HTC Aria ) .

I then installed the free ORB app from the marketplace but then i realized my PC at home was not running ORB at the time so i couldn't test it. When I turn on the media player and start to listen to a podcast, the sound fades out after about a minute. This is the same headset that worked for almost 2 years on my at&t Fuze. It works great for phone calls. I tried the default media player and DoggCatcher, but that didn't work either, so I'm thinking it's a setting. I've played with any setting I can find in the Bluetooth area, there aren't many.Any help would be appreciated. I believe this is a failure of the A2DP? My work permits me to listen to music & podcasts, but doesn't let me use a corded headset, so this is a deal breaker for me and I love this phone. Even my hubby, who never notices phones, admires the vibrant display and actually asked to see the OS! I'm converting him

View 15 Replies View RelatedWell my IP4 did not ship so I ran to AT&T and picked up a Captivate. I like it a lot and I'm still get used to it. A lot of good things about it. However there are things that maybe due to user ignorance that I have noticed would be a problem. Is there really no Exchange Server search? Am I unable to find it?No way to reorder folders in Exchange since there is a bar on top (which is very nice BTW).
So I noticed that default numbers and e-mails must be set up manually like in the old days of Nokia S60, and still if you go to the contact page and hit call it will ask you which number to use. iPhone automatically determines defaults and just uses them. Asking which number to use when calling after defaults have been set up negates the point of defaults.
What is up with the "history" bar? When I click on an e-mail it does not open the e-mail but rather says "message deleted". What is up with that? It does nothing useful.Again for e-mail even after I set the default address it seems to need me to tell it which address to use. Is there something wrong with my phone? Ok I guess I'm beginning to see that this works differently. If you want to use defaults you have to use the pop up shortcuts or the left/right gestures. Also in a contact card if you hit "send email" it will ask which address. If you select the actual address the only options are "messaging" or "gmail" my primary account is an exchange account and with that interface I can't use my primary account to send. It's a bit convoluted and not thought out well. Maybe its a matter of getting used to it, understanding its design decisions, and finding my own workflow with it.
I'm on Rogers network in Canada so I decided to buy the AT&T Captivate. I LOVE this phone. Problem is that I can't get it unlocked. I tried calling AT&T but they said they couldn't unless I had a phone number associated to the phone. What eva. I've tried several 3rd party dealers on the internet including eBay.

Had AT&T look at it and they said the problem was the Android operating system. They tried downloading new software but when they sent an E-mail to me it still took over 10 minutes to show up. Wondering if I should just get an iPhone or has on-one else had this problem?
