View 19 RepliesFor some weeks now im getting "installation fails" message when trying to install some of the software from OVI or from downloaded files. For example, Nokia Sleeping Screen. It downloads and the Ovi bar says "installing" then a smaller window appear in the lower section of the screen saying "preparing installation" then "Installing" then after a few seconds "installation Failed. Some apps for example Spotify installs perfectly, but here the bottom window don't appear at all. I have made a full reset, problem remains. I did a 3 finger reset, problem remains.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI cannot begin to tell you the frustrating experience I have had trying to load Ovi Maps 3.03 onto my N97. Suffice it to say that every step of the way has been a painful experience that has seriously threatened my loyalty to a brand that I have always been loyal to. I'm still not there yet. Having followed instructions and loaded the latest version of firmware (20.0.019) via my PC, the automatic loading software then loaded version 3.01 of Ovi Maps (WHY wasn't 3.03 loaded? - it's the latest version!). I proceeded to the Software Updater app on my PC to upload the latest version (3.03). It did recognize the latest version and proceeded to download the software to my PC for installation onto my phone. During the upgrade to my phone, the installation failed and a message appeared "Installation failed 6:19".
I tried to install again, but using the updater app on my PC, it doesn't recognize the need for an upgrade to 3.03 (does it think the upgrade has worked?). Back to my phone to try using the software updater app installed there. It does recognize the fact that a later version of Ovi Maps is available and allows me to try and install it, and a message appears "Installing Ovi Maps with free navigation (1 of 1)", however seconds later another message appears "Result: 1 update failed View update history". Clicking on the View bit helpfully takes me to the log, which unhelpfully shows the message "Ovi Maps with free navigation Installation failed at 6:25" and NO OTHER information about why the installation failed or what to do to recover it. So now I am stuck with an updater on the PC which doesn't recognize the need to do an update and an updater on the phone, which does recognize the need, but fails EVERY time.
Last week, we upgraded my Nokia N8 to Symbian Anna. Now, I experienced one large and one smaller problem:1. Large problem: When connecting the phone (via USB cable) to my notebook (Suse Linux 11.2), it is no longer recognized as a mass storage drive (USB stick), but only the camera is recognized (pptp protocol), i.e., the notebook asks, if I want to copy the photos, but does not find access to all other files. (Before upgrading, this problem did not exist!)
2. Smaller problem: When taking photos, one can add a description (under "details").This works, but not as good as before: the number of characters for the description is drastically reduced. and what is worse: all older descriptions have been truncated and are hardly of any use any more.
After Anna upgrade, the operation of my phone (N8) run slower generally. I am not sure I can specify few, for example, openning Photos, taking picture, working with worksheet, etc.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've now been told by Nokia support chat, that I was supposed to 'monitor' the download, and later the installation of upgrades, when I called and explained that my phone is DEAD AS A DOORNAIL, stuck on the Nokia screen, no life, no hard reset, nothing helps. She failed to explain to me how exactly is it that one 'monitors' a download. Watch the bar? Anyway, stay away from the upgrade the system keeps telling you to do. I've had my $500 phone for 13 months and I'm told I have to pay to have it repaired, cause I'm out of warranty. BTW, if any of you have a suggestion, I'm all ears!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my N8 to Symbian Anna. Now every time at boot it wants me to login to OVI. I do not want to login to OVI as I feel that I do not have any control over the data usage of it. I am frequent traveler and I guess that OVI is not going to pay for the internet while I am roaming. I need to get entirely rid of this OVI login screen. Anyone who can explain how I can remove the OVI login from my phone ? Pressing the Later button is not an option.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I eagerly upgraded from Anna to Belle on my N8. Here is a list of missing features;
1) widget offline setting
2) automatic wifi enable when launching the browser, store or other internet app
3) bluetooth beep no longer present after turning off bluetooth
4) turning wifi on doesn't automatically pair with defined access point
5) task manager or open applications feature
6) automatic screen blanking while placing or receiving a call
7) wife connection drops but wifi radio stays on
8) touching battery icon indicates remaining power (same for other icons)
Another nit, apps that were previously downloaded when they were free, can no longer be downloaded without paying. Why does the upgrade remove your apps anyway?
I have tried several times to download and install teh Nokia Mobile VPN from the Nokia (OVI) store but the installation always fail. I have an N8 running Anna. I'm not sure where to start with getting this to work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust when I think the E75 cannot get any worse (it has slightly worse reception than 2 tin cans and a bit of wet string!!), Nokia send me a OS upgrade that will "result in improved performance"! Tragically, it continuously comes up with the great message "Installation failed due to lost connectivity; do not disconnect USB connection during installation"! Now, whilst I am not the sharpest tool in the shed, even I can see that disconnecting the cable would not be condusive to a successful software upgrade, so of course I am not doing that! I am about to wind the clock back over 10 years and resort to my trusty 6150.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI got the Nokia e63 in April 2010. One of the things I did first was:
1. Update Ovi Store app on the phone
2. Ran Nokia Maps on the phone (applicaiton already on the phone) or downloaded Ovi Maps from the Ovi Store - cant remember.
3. Regardless of how I did (2) I managed to install country maps for specific areas (US New York, UK etc) by using Ovi PC Suite
So all ok so far. Now I started putting more applications and games on the phone but it kept getting slower and slower - to a point it would not render the screen properly or mix two screens into one. I have a 2 gig memory card in it with only less than 20% in use - the phone memory had over 80Meg free. So really could not understand why it performed so badly. Anyway I spent several hours resetting the phoning and doing all the above again - but OVi Maps does not install any more (I get Installation Failed message).
To add more headache - the internet was very slow and I had to attempt several times to update Ovi Store after each reset - finally gave up and had to use a WLAN connection. When I go to the Ovi Store web site on my pc and find Ovi Maps - there is now a message saying its not available for e63. Yet that was not what I recall because I have installed Ovi Maps on the phone before and installed the additional country maps on several occassions (the last one being as recent as May 2010 - last month) All of a sudden Ovi Maps is not compatible with the Nokia E63? The Ovi Store app on the phone gives no indication of compatibilty issue with the phone - so you can keep downloading it and using up your internet allowance and it keeps failing to install without giving any useful message.
Installing Skype from the Ovi store I get the message "Installation failed". Did anyone else got this message and know how to solve this predicament?

View 3 Replies View Related- It now takes several seconds to respond to key presses so every feature of the phone is running at a delay.
- SMS messages aren't being received in "real time" and I need to periodically turn the phone on and off again to receive them.
- "Messaging" itself has the largest delay and key-presses are at about a ten second response delay and if for example you select to mark today's messages as "read" then "processing" appears at the bottom of the screen. No matter how long you leave it "processing" it never completes, crashes and closes messaging.
- Having never previously locked up my N8 now does this at least twice a day when trying to answer a call - the touchscreen does not respond to me and the call rings out and eventually goes to voicemail. I run my own business and these are potential customers who my N8 is refusing to answer calls from.
- My N8 will now no longer pair with my bluetooth headset - which it has done for the past year. It's not the headset because I can pair and use it with both my desktop and netbook computers.
- Programs keep crashing and exiting on their own (e.g. Opera browser)
- Other previously working programs now will not start/open/launch at all. (Blackballer - app for rejecting certain callers).
- Other installed programs that have been set to "auto start" now do not auto start and must be launched manually.
I have not installed any "new" software since updating to Anna and all aspects of the phone were working normally before I updated. (I've found the WiFi connectivity temperamental but haven't had the need to used it since updating to Anna).I am presently syncing and backing up my phone using the Ovi suite but I would like to restore my phone to how it was before the Anna update but I'm not really sure which of the options I should choose (factory settings?)I have a class 10 memory card which contains several GB's worth mp3's and camera images - I have opted out of backing up the memory card on Ovi suite. I have installed paid-for apps installed via the Ovi store and I would (of course!) prefer not to lose them in any reset/restore procedure. In a nutshell I do not want to lose my mp3's, camera images (stored on memory card) nor do I want to lose my sms messages or installed paid-for applications.
I've recently had a notification on my N8 with a software upgrade. I run OSX and was wondering what is the best way to upgrade firmware without windows?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a theme that replaces the Anna style icons from my N8 and replaces them with how it used to look.Ovi told me that there was an update available for my N8 with improved features so I downloaded and installed it. What it didn't tell me was that it would replace all of my icons with something that makes it look like a kids toy. I don't want pretty rounded icons that all look virtually the same but in different colours, I want standard icons. I want a picture of a spanner for settings, I want a picture of a calculator for calculator, I want a picture of a calendar for calendar and so on.Is there a downloadable theme that replaces these childish looking icons for the original ones? The N8 is a telephone, not something made by Fisher-Price......
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've got a Nokia N8 and wanted to get "weather maps". I already have the Nokia weather application, and the SPB Weather application as well. After looking around on the internet, I found some good information recommending "Weatherbug" for the N8. Info can be found here:[URL] I tried to downloadn and install the program. I got a message that doing so might also require downloading other software that might be up to 12 megs or so. (I guessed this was QT, which I already have from my installation of Nokia Bubbles.) I downloade the sofware, and got a message that I then had to get the first of two downloads. After the download, the installation failed, and I got a message that I should click on an icon for something like "smart install" to continue.Clicking on "Smart Installer ADM" gets me to "Continuing Installation Weather Bug".I need to connect to the internetI so I click on "connect this time". Eventually my phone downloads the first of two software downloads, and then the installation fails. I have to first update "QT" or something?
