Nokia Navigation :: GPS Not Not Locating Accurate Position
Oct 20, 2011
When i use maps application, I am getting a gps icon on the task bar. But its not locating the accurate position. Also even afetr closing the maps, for some time the icon will be active.
I installed the new Maps 3.03 and when I go to My Position it shows my current position but not accurate. I tried to search for my exact location, but no results found. I am not able to understand if GPS is working. Guide talks about some red indicator I do see one with halo red but I don't what to do with that ? Additionally when I go to Menu of the maps I see Please sign in at the top but its not clickable. How to sign in ?
Please state your phone provider and what app your are using to determine your current location. For me IP4, O2, Google maps, I'm about 1.5 miles away from myself in London.Personally I think it makes a mockery of the find my iPhone/iPad app.I guess with a TomTom app it's using satellites so would be more accurate?
I already sent a feedback about inaccurate street names in Nokia Map of Kuwait.I live on Baghdad street in Salmiya and Nokia Maps insist on calling it Cairo Street.A few other errors can be found.
I bought a X6 16 GB. I could not use my GPS. I Called care line and got nothing. I just saw "waiting for GPS..." and i searched in web and found that i must select "internal GPS" in position methods, but in that menu i just have a "Bluetooth GPS".nothing else exists there. please tell me how can i fix this. I used "Reset to factory setting" and also do a HARD Format. Why i can't see "Internal Gps" or "Assist gps" and ...I can use GPS from my old N82 phone, AND GPS NOT Illegal in my country.it's my 6 Nokia phone and I so disappointment?
Maps are never finding my GPS location. It just continues to search and search. I have tried rebooting, holding down the button for 8 seconds and getting the 3 buzzes but no luck.
If I use the check in feature - it works - finds my location an places nearby.
Drive To Navigation fails. It used to find my location extremely fast. Am I able to uninstall it and reinstall Nokia Maps?
I seem to have a problem with maps on my recently purchased E6. No matter how I access the maps function it goes straight to the 'My Position' map page. In other words it bypasses the page where you can select My Position, Drive, Walk, Favorites etc.
I am using ovi maps v 3.03 on my 5230 and everything is ok. My younger brother bought nokia 5233 yesterday. We downloaded this version on his phone but we are unable to get position (longitude, latitude etc.) in gps data. What I want to know is which positioning method option should be enabled on 5233 Bluetooth, network based or both?
I normally use gps with data traffic off, and in open sky. Have two navigation apps installed: google maps and CoPilot Live Premium. Have used both of them without any issues before (on Xperia ray), position used to be determined in a matter of few tens of seconds from first start. If I try to use any navigation app now, it simply cannot detect the position. Remarkably, it does see the gps signal, but no matter how long I wait, position remains to be undetermined. To investigate the issue further, I have installed the GPS test app. It shows clearly from 7 to 12 sattelites in use, but position remains to be undetermined! I should add that with GPS test it becomes clear that the number of visible (and usable) sattelites time after time drops down to 1 or 2 without any reason, just for a second or so, and then again jumps to 7-12... I saw some claims in the internet, that this problem has to do with AGPS, but I am not expert in this and so far I haven't found any good solution to the problem.
I am very interested in the DroidX, but the virtual keyboard does not have any means to move the cursor- so if you mis-type a character, you have to either perfectly position your finger & delete the wrong letter & re-type, or delete the whole word & re-type. Why is there seemingly no way to move the cursor position on the DroidX keyboard & is there any software that does implement this? Also, will the Droid X be able to upgrade to AndroidOS v3?
Anyway, my 5800 had an infamous vertical stripes issue. I sent it to one of my local Nokia service centers. They replaced the screen. The new screen-while doesn't have the vertical stripes-looks worse than the old one (minus the vertical stripes issue that kept coming and going on the old screen). The new screen has a yellow tint to it; it becomes much more apparent when not viewing the screen from a direct angle. (In other words, white appears somewhat yellow.) Also, the new screen is somewhat blotchy (kind of like bruises); the color is uneven -- this becomes very apparent when viewing a solid colour image file. (The worse part is the top portion of the screen-about 0.8 cm in length-which appears noticeably darker than the rest.)There was also a tiny crack (about 0.2 cm in length) on the bottom of the frame surrounding the screen.OK, so I didn't complain about the yellow screen and that tiny crack when I received my 5800 back from the service center. My bad. (I was in a rush to go to a movie.) Those imperfections bugged me somewhath, but I can live with them. What I'm really upset about is that I think the GPS does not perform as well as before I sent it to the repair center.
So here's the question: How accurate is your GPS?Before my 5800 went to the service center, I'm pretty sure its GPS was pretty much spot on. But after it came back, the best it can get in term of accuracy is around 10m on a very very very very very rare occasion and 15m on very very very rare occasions. Most of the times it showed that I was about 100-150m from where I actually was. This is all when the 5800 is not moving. When I used it inside a moving car, before it went to the service center, the GPS was spot on - even without A-GPS. Now even with A-GPS and edge on, it can barely keeps up; it's like it's lagging 500 m behind and sometimes showed that the car was on the side of the road that the car was not. Sometimes, it even showed that the car was somewhere that was actually quite far from the actual position. I went back to the technician; he said that it's not hardware-related. He said it's software, because my phone still detects the satellites. So he basically flashed the firmware again-according to what he told me. He also told me to reinstall the (ovi) maps, which I did. I don't think these really fix the issue. So before I went back to the repair center, I want to know how accurate are your GPSs?
With the free Nav and great Nav screen, I am enjoying Ovi Maps. My only gripe with the software is that in Map mode (not in navagation mode), panning is not smooth or accurate. It seems to be delayed and it also pans in the opposite direction once your finger is lifted. It's not much of an issue since I use Google Maps for map purposed, but it would be nice is panning where smoother on Ovi Maps. Are others experiencing this as well? Is there a way to make it smoother?
Where is the call history in registry in this phone? Updated to latest firmware - 10.10 and still there isn't.I also have simple Nokia 1209 model and there is this feature. Can someone help?
I'm upgrading my E72 to FW23.002, with new Ovi MAP 3.03, I cannot even detect GPS position (cannot locate current position in map) although being in a clear sky point for quite long and already enable A-GPS. Just waiting for GPS, even many satellites are found (using satellite status).
Recently I've downloaded the new Ovi Maps and I find that it has finally added useable maps for my country. Now I can't seem to find to "Go to My Position" option on the map, like the one on google maps.
I installed Nokia Navigation 2.0 with some maps on my Lumia phone. But how can I find out the version of the installed maps? And how can I check the actual existing version of the maps on the Nokia server?

I bought a new Nokia 6760 slide on Monday 15 mar 10. When I go to My Position in Maps, it shows me somewhere in the middle of the ocean in south east Asia. While I am in Brisbane Australia. Its here that I bought it, What should I do to correct this issue.
I have a N97. I am new to Ovi maps 3.0.3. My question is how come when i open the map, the position is wrong. I live in chicago, but the map is showing up Washington, Dc. area.
Latest firmware. New install of maps 3.04, only integrated gps choice and still waiting for position. I have a red light on the top left of the screen.Where is the locking meter of satellites. I am waiting waiting but nothing. All I see is a white screen and the red light.
If instructions upon page 77 of N9 UG (Eng) not clear enough you do need to download appropriate voice file with street names as none installed by default. After you have chosen "Walking person" icon > Get directions > Navigate you need to tap upon grey tool bar at base of screen After selecting Voice Guidance > tap on select voice to reveal choices available.
I could never get going with my GPS on Nokia E72. My position never shows the correct location. I have downloaded India map and use it offline. I have enabled A-GPS, Integrated GPS and Network based GPS.
Positioning server use : Automatic Access Point : Idea Internet. Server address: None
Internet option is offline as I have downloaded the map. Do I need to to make it online to A-GPS work?
Open the Maps application on N96, then select "Options" -> "My position", the application will show a Red Circle on the Map to indicate the current position, and the position is correct, but when I walk to another street, then select again "Options" -> "My position", found that the Red Circle is still on the previous street. What is the problem? Why Maps can't show "My second position" correctly?
I came across the following problems whilst trying to update an address in my favourites list:
*Editing the address does not change the position of the place - i.e. I now have an entry that shows all the correct info for one location, but is actually pointing somewhere completely different! I edited my entry from the Homescreen search (which seems to take you through to Location>landmarks.
*In Maps, I can't move a place to the right collection (organise collections) There is no scroll bar so I can only access the first few collections!!!
*Trying to get around this using Ovi Maps on PC fails too - After selecting the right collection to move it to, the message "cannot connect to remote server" comes up. There is no problem connecting to the server for any other functions, but for this one it is persistent.
I then went on to plan a route: *Using Search in Maps does not include (or allow you to select) results from your own favourites or history!
*When adding a route point you don't have access to your collections (only a raw list of favourite places)
*After clicking "Start driving" in a route, you can no longer access favourite places or history at all!
I was testing the Ovi Maps and found that the horizontal screen (Landscape) is better to navigate than the vertical (Portrait) position What is intriguing me is that my 5230 only switch from portrait to Landscape when turned to the left, and in this case the GPS antenna would be located in lower place of the unit, not at the top, where it should be. Question: Wy 5230 do change the screen from portrait to Landscape only when switching to the left and not to the right? How I can make this to works correctly, so that the GPS antenna is looking to the sky and not to the floor in the landscape position?
i found out that the position sensor of my Nokia doesnt work good. For example Raging Thunder if i want to play and put my Phone on the Table before, the car drive more to left but it must drive forward. I heard that other people with Nokia 5800 have the same problem, but not all.Why i cant calibrate the sensor?
