Nokia Lumia :: "Upgraded" To The 820 About A Month Ago From The Samsung Focus?
Dec 30, 2012
"Upgraded" to the Lumia 820 about a month ago from the Samsung Focus (WP7) and everything worked great for a couple weeks until the phone started freezing. Also noticed that once the freezing issue started, everytime I would unplug the charger the phone would play a sound even though I have the ringer off and vibrate on. I complained to ATT and got a replacement. Things worked great for a week, no freezing and no sound played when unplugging the charger. Then there was a notification for updates for approximately 6 items, and I believe this is when the problems occurred again. The phone freezes and a sound is played when the charger is unplugged from the phone like before. The phone freezes when it is in standby and I try to wake it up by pressing the power button.
I bought 2 Samsung Focus phones when they launched back in 2010, one of me and one for my Wife. It's an excellent phone, my favorite smartphone of all the one's I've owned. I'm a bit of a tech/gadget freak and was hoping to upgrade to a new WP7 device this year, but I'm overall disappointed with the 'new' wp7 phones. None of them seem to really offer any reasonable upgrade over the Samsung Focus.
However, I'm torn because I really want to upgrade to something new. I can sell mine and buy the Nokia Lumia 900 and probably make money on the deal.
Between the two, the Focus is lighter, smaller, better screen (although lumia 900 is .3 inches larger screen), comparable battery life, etc. The focus is also super fast, so i don't know if the upgraded CPU in the Lumia 900 will even be noticeable.
The battery life on my focus was 3 days of light/moderate use UNTIL I upgraded to Mango. Now I'm lucky to get a full 24 hours out of the battery, with no other changes done, the battery life was cut down to 1/3 of original. I'm really disappointed about this. I don't know how it will compare with the Nokia Lumia 900.
The Nokia does have a front facing camera (useful for Skype if it ever comes to WP7) and a higher megapixel camera (although my focus takes really great pictures already). It also has more built-in storage, 16gb vs the focus 8gb (although after year of use I still have 1gb left and I have a lot of junk apps that I need to delete). So, Why should I upgrade to the Nokia Lumia 900? Is it worth it?
I really need some convincing. Maybe I'm missing something here.
I have a Nokia Lumia 710 and took pictures in the month of March. On April 1st, a new tile started for April 2012, but my photos for March are no where to be found.
Some of the photos that I took in March, I assigned as the photo for contact photos and are still assigned as their photos, so it seems like they might still be in the phone some where, but where they went, I don't know.
For some reason today when i opened up my camera to take a few shots it had problem auto focusing on items close to me, as you know when you tap the screen to focus on a point in the screen you get the circle and a small beep to let you know it's focusing ok, it seemed to have problems getting to this point and there was an audible high pitched buzzing or clicking sound coming from the lens itself and the screen image would not come into focus
the phone has not been dropped or roughly handled so i am 100% sure it's not an issue caused by being knocked, i have tried a reset and a reboot but the issue still remains, also i have done no recent updates and there are none showing so that's not the issue either
I'm using the phone few days. I've installed latest software from the site (7.10.8773.98 / 1066.0000.8779.12340). When I'm creating some task or meeting in the calendar, I see them on desktop calendar icon (and reminders are working well) but when I open full calendar and see the day / month schedule it's absolutely empty with no meetings / tasks.
I've only had my Lumia 710 for two weeks. Up until 4 days ago, the touch screen focus attribute was working perfectly. I was taking pictures and it simply stopped working.I've since tried resetting the camera options back to defaults with no luck. I recently updated the phones software pn 10.18.2012 with no change either. I also took out the battery and sim card out of frustration and obviously had no luck.
Samsung Focus won't boot past "Samsung" logo after it show the red bettery low sign. And i have charged it for more than 3 hours. And tried for so many times including held back&search while starting, but it still do not work. Just show the Samsung. What i need to do? Its there better way if i want to keep my information in the phone?
I'm writing because I red some places that Nokia E52 has Auto Focus or in some place "Full focus", so Iám wondering is this true, because I can't find no settings to adjust it ?
The camera will not focus at all on the back. Selfie camera works great right away. After about a minute with the back camera, it will finally focus and work great. All films have been removed from the exterior lens of the camera, so I know this isnt the problem. Camera is on auto focus, too.
Had my focus suddenly seize up today after i pressed the power button to unlock the screen. Removed the battery and the device now won't power up. Theres a red battery sign and exclamation mark when I attempt to turn on the device. When plugged in with USB cable a battery sign with a plug inside it shows up but phone still won't turn on or sync with my pc.
I have misplaced my wall charger, is this an issue that can be solved with a wall charger, a battery issue or do I need to send it to a cell phone shop for them to fix it?
I just purchased a factory unlocked Samsung Focus from Amazon. I will be using it on Simple Mobile, but I haven't purchased the SIM card or service yet (I will when my Virgin Mobile month is up). I've played around with the phone though, hoping to use it on the WiFi network at my college. I heard that the Mango update may allow me to access hidden SSID networks--is this true? Anyways, I was syncing the phone with the Zune software, adding music and such, and tried to update the phone because it said an update was available (not the Mango update...but I was going to try to force the Mango update after updating to the version it wanted me to--7.07 I think?). Every time I try to update it, it takes forever saying "installing" then it says it failed, with the error code C0000005. Is the update failing because I don't have a SIM card in the phone? .
Update: just tried again...this time it got through installing and restoring/restarting the phone, then it said the update failed.
I regularly get .eml attachement files on my Samsung Focus with Mango. I can't get them to open. I'm using the built in Oultook email email client. I have Exchange. (.eml files are emails that are attached to an email.) A friend who has the same phone says he can open them. Could that be? What could I do to get them open?
My 950xl is having some serious autofocus issues in low light. I half hold the camera button and the image will come into focus. I then finish the press, and as the camera tries to take the picture, the camera app tries to refocus and fails nearly every time. I have found that the only way to be certain this doesn't happen is to manually focus shot in low light. I was going to attach some samples but this website doesn't play nice with Edge - which is ridiculous since it is a Windows focused site.
I got the Mango update on Samsung Focus yesterday - so excited to try the new features. I have, however, lost the ability to control the volume on my phone. The volume is at 30/30 and I cannot reduce the volume.
When I start any camera app on my Lumia 1020 the picture is blurry if I'm pointing the camera at anything over 6 inches away or so. When I push the camera button in it attempts to focus. Sometimes it will focus on distant objects the way it should, but most of the time it does not and everything stays blurry. This happened after receiving the latest update(not sure what update version). I've tried reinstalling Nokia Cam but it does not fix the problem. I haven't tried resetting to factory setting yet because I do not wish to have to redo everything on the phone.
My 1020 seems to have a problem when set to infinity focus...the pictures end up a bit blurry. The strange thing is that on autofocus the picture is perfectly sharp...which makes me think this is a software issue rather than hardware.
I uploaded 2 pictures to show you the issue. Both were taken on a tripod and 2 seconds self timer to avoid handshake. ISO was set at 100 and everything else left on auto except for focus mode.
My new 1020 doesn't seem to focus on (especially) close-up objects ! Everytimes i tap on the subjects to focus (close-up / macro), the camera unable to lock the focus ! Is it normal for 1020 or manufacturing defect ?
My 1020 photos are appalling at the moment. They are just unfocused. Took photos of my daughter seeing Santa yesterday, no time to fiddle with settings. Ended up with awful out of focus shots, friends Iphone pics were fab. So fed up, I nearly missed the pics altogether because of the loading screen.
I discover a really annoying bug when using flash and manual focus. So to reproduce it with no doubt, use a white subject, like a written paper, or something white to capture at a very close distance, let's say 20 cm (or 7 inches). Then:
- Open Nokia Camera. - First thing, select manual focus. - Be sure Flash is on. - Now take the picture.
What you now (should) have is an unusual burned picture. If you take the same picture, with totally the same settings, and using autofocus, instead, the light is normal and the paper correct.
I discover a "workaround" with pressing the autofucus button, let it try to focus something, first, and then using Manual Focus (it seems like a first procedure in autofocusing resets some parameters).
After this and taken the picture, flash and light seem correct, but comparing the autofocus picture taken first, with the Manual Focus one taken later, the manual one results again a bit brighter (in my example the color changed and the more brightness is barely noticeable, but I assure you, depending on colors and distance, it gets just more).
I already tried on 3 1020s.
1 - mine 2 - a friend of mine's 3 - one in a NStore shop directly from the shelf (the employer was embarassed for not knowing that issue).
When trying to FaceTime with my iPhone 5, the rear camera continually moves from focus to out-of-focus. I'm FaceTiming with absolutely mad because the picture moves from blurry to clear almost constantly.
I had to replace my first iPhone 5 after only 15 months because the rear camera couldn't auto-focus anymore (a well-documented problem), and I had to pay for a replacement phone. Now after only 5 months with the replacement iPhone 5 I received from Apple it seems like I'm having more issues with the rear camera.
A feature that I used to love on my Lumia 920 on Win8.1 was that I could just tap the screen in the camera app on the spot that I wanted the focus to be on and the camera would focus and automatically proceed to take the photo. On the new Lumia 950 camera, I now need to focus and then separately press either the physical camera button or the soft camera button on screen. Any way to snap the photo in a single step by tapping the screen like I could do with the Windows 8.1 camera?
I tried to video shoot on lumia 1020. Sitting at same place focusing on same subject the light seems to vary. The subject in focus becomes darker and then lighter. I had used Procam app, the default Nokia camera app seems to be more stable..
Sometimes when the camera starts focusing to make a picture, it makes a really high pitched sound. It continues when the camera has focused until the picture is made. The sound certainly doesn't come from the speakers and isn't triggered by the phone itself but purely by the camera on the back, so it has to be something hardware related.
It isn't that big of a problem, the camera certainly isn't malfunctioning, but I was with a friend today who asked me what that sound was and I'm wondering as well, since it isn't supposed to produce sounds like that.
After seeing the article about Device Hub and Storage Check beta's now ending because they're included in the OS with Cyan I went into Settings to take a look.......and Storage Check is definitely not there. I have the HK RM-937 but flashed the RM-937 VAR EURO GB CV ROM to it so I could get Cyan.
