Nokia Lumia :: Location Icon Always Active In Status Bar On 920
Nov 14, 2012
Why is the location icon always active in the status bar at the top of the windows phone start screen on Nokia Lumia 920. This is ridiculous and what I believe to be the culprit in the battery draining issue I am experiencing with this phone.
Why is the location icon always active in the status bar at the top of the windows phone start screen? does anyone else have this issue on there Nokia Lumia 920.
When I switch on the location, its icon is always on top of the screen even though I do no use any app. To see if something is running on the background, I already switched off all the background apps. In addition, I disable all the apps which can use my location. But still the icon is there.
Since i upgraded my lumia 1520 to windows10, the wifi button is not working in action center. When i try to activate it from setting, the same problem and the message appears to say : Cant do this at the moment
The icon O_O keeps appearing on my phone next to the battery status icon. I have no messages, no emails, nothing. It will not go away. What is it and how can I get it to go away. There is nothing in the users manual and nothing on line about this.
Sometimes when I unlock my phone I see a round status icon (like a checked radio button) at the top of the screen next to the power, it disappears quickly. Can't seem to find any information on the status icons. What it is?
After the update, my status bar does not show if i am online or not. The T-mobile internet icon does not show up any more. When i click on the bar above i see a red cross on T-mobile internet as if i am not online. Is anyone experiencing this after updating?
For the past 2 years I have used the GPS Location software on my Nokia X6 for Geocaching- (A game where you find hidden containers all around the world), by entering a set of co-ordinates and the Nokia X6 guides me there.) This software utilises the integrated GPS function of the X6, so the phone doesn't need to connect to the internet or use any data. In fact this function even works without a SIM card in the phone!I have now upgraded the X6 to a Lumia 710, however I cannot find any Location software built in.software that I can download so I can carry on Geocaching using Integarated GPS-(like on the X6) and not Assisted GPS-(where the phone uses the internet, and costs me money.)
I added my Facebook account to the accounts on Lumia 920 so I can use the built-in Messaging app for Facebook chat. However, the app (I guess) posts idle status messages to my Facebook timeline in every 1-2 hours. An example message:"I've been away since 15:37."I have now 9 messages like this since yesterday.I went through all the settings but could not find how to stop this. I disabled the Microsoft application within Facebook but then you can't chat and won't get the updates.
So when I try to use my "Me Tile" to check in at a location it just gives an error message "Can't Search We're having trouble searching for nearby places right now."
I've tried master resetting phone, location services are on, battery and sim pull, no improvement. Checking for updates in phone menu, says phone is up to date, so no OTA available.
Then tried connecting to Zune on laptop, Zune can't see phone when plugged into USB, although Windows did download and install drivers. Uninstall Zune and re-install to try to fix, no improvement. Why does Nokia Drive work, but check in won't?
I am getting issues while using Nokia Drive + Beta, my position isn't moving when driving or taking 5 - 10 seconds to update then just freezes again.
it seems that i set destination, it finds me and my destination fine, i click start, it gives the first direction fine, i start driving and nothing, "my position" on the display doesn't move, the only way i can update it is "stop navigation" then "set destination" again where it picks up my new location.
i've ensured location services are on, location within the app is turned on, i've checked my connection is "online"...are there any other settings i should be aware of?
speed alert is off, landmarks is off, map colours automatic updated maps navigation licence is global
i am using it in a windscreen mount that grips the top and bottom of the phone with little "arms", i've tried in both landscape and portrait orientation. bluetooth is on and hoping to be playing music at the same time eventually.
i have been having the general "freeze out" issue recently with the phone where i lock it and then it doesn't come back on without a button reset, 2 times since friday
When attempting to to post a message <status update> via "Me" tile or "Facebook Application" I receive an error "Can't post message We're having trouble posting your message to Facebook" <from Me Tile> & "Your update could not be posted at this time." <Facebook Application>.However, in both I can like items in the feed and respond to posts.I've unlinked Facebook from Windows Live and relinked it already. I've removed Facebook from Accounts on the Phone and Re-added it to no avail. I am at a loss as to what else I could try to make it work.
This began after activating my new Lumia 900 on AT&T. I previously had an HTC Arrive on Sprint and tested it on there and it no longer can post status updated either.I feel like this either has to be a Facebook account setting or Windows Live account setting but I've tried everything I can think of and am now at a loss.ve unlinked Facebook from Windows Live and relinked it already.
When I launch Maps and press the circle button to zoom to my location, it will do so. It finds me within a few hundred feet. After this point, it has no idea where I am. The dot representing me on the maps will vanish, and if I press the locate button again, it will pop somewhere else within a couple of miles of me, and then realize that isn't right, and not change the circle locator button to green, or show a dot on the screen. I can press the locate button again and have this happen continuously. When using Nokia Drive Beta, it will use my correct location to plot a course, but then not follow me at all, so it constantly displays the first direction. It, too, seems to have no clue where I am.My commute takes me through country, city, and suburbs. I've tried placing the phone on the dash, in the cupholder, and just holding it. Previous phones (iPhone, android) have not had this issue over the same commute.
WP8 appears to completely lack the most basic Audiobook functioanlity. No seek/skip in audio or video? No bookmarking or remembering location in files?! I mean... I would like to see more advanced functionality specific to Audiobooks but these types of features are very useful for all sorts of media. The Nokia app doesn't even FFW or rewind through audio/video!
The Audible app is pretty great but I can't seem to figure out a way to use it to play any of the hundreds of older audiobooks I've created myself from my personal auiobook CD/Casette collection. I can't imagine what I'd do if I still needed to go through recorded lectures.
For some reason all of a sudden, my WP, Bing Maps, Facebook, has been showing my urrently location in Ohio, when I am in So Cal. However, when using Nokia Maps, it displays my location correctly.I have rebooted my phone, turned on and off location, but it still located me incorrectly. This is day 2 of this issue.
I have just returned from Stockholm and have noticed the 'phone and arrow' icon (see attached - top left of the display). Wondering if anyone knows what it means, if it costs me and how I find what's causing it.
The only icon that I can see is 4G in my XPERIA Z3. If I choose 3G or 2G network there is no icon on the status bar (only signal strength without type of network icon)....
I have just upgraded from the Z1 Compact to the Z5 Compact. The only setting I cannot change is having the vibrate icon on the notification bar. I didn't have this on my Z1...
I have this icon that wont go away dont know what it is for, just a app icon that says "Waiting" below it, never downloads anything. When I go to App Store > Purchased > all my apps are already installed so no clue what it is. It will go away briefly but then come back its very strange. I have tried turning off phone, hard resetting phone. Then even hold down to see if let delete it but when all the other icons wiggle this one doesn't have the x to delete.

I have a brand new bold 9700 and I can't understand what this icon means (it is in top right corner when I calling). There is no any info in user manuals and on forum.
On my blackberry torch home screen, there is status icon on top which consists of a red circle with a white "w" in the middle of it. Just to the right is the number "1". Does any know what this means?
an icon appeared on a sent text mgs that looks like a SMALL 'MOBILE PHONE'. i cant find it in any BB Torch manual or any other manual. what does it mean? its only on that 1 text message i sent. usually there is the Text Msg Bubble next to any name. this one is the only one with the 'Mobile Phone' icon next to it?
I bought a Z5 the other day and I haven't tried NFC until I got me a scr42 style cover for it. I noticed the smart window function doesn't work and realised that the phone doesn't display the NFC icon in the status bar. I've tried activating NFC from both the pull-down menu and the settings and in both the option lights up as if it were enabled, but the icon does not appear and the phone doesn't react to the tag on the cover.
The icon is near the Wi-Fi on the status bar, is like a sim drawing with dots on it. It is not the "no sim card..." it is similar to a storage card icon...
It's a circle with 2 dashes in it in the top left corner (not on the right!) Running Marshmallow on a Nexus 5 with Nova Prime.
I assume it's from a fairly recent app download but I can't figure out which one and I have lots, do not want to delete them all trying to find out....
I have a question about wi-fi on the X8. I have it turned on when at home to use my wireless broadband. Sometimes when I activate my phone, there is no wifi icon at the top on the status bar, then after a few minutes it appears. Does the wifi connection on the phone turn off after a time idle? or is my phone keep losing connection? And also if it is losing connection has anyone else had this problem?
