Nokia :: 5230 Does Not Warn About Security Cameras
Jul 20, 2010
I bought brand new 5230 a week ago. When suggested by the sms sent by Nokia I upgraded the firmware with PC Suite, downloaded the latest available Ovi Maps via phones Ovi application and downloaded Europe maps with PCSuite (Map Loader 3.something).
Versions are:
Ovi Maps is v 3.04 10wk17 b07 MW OpenGL LN MN
Maps are version 0.1.24.114
Location is Finland, software is finnish.
"Varoitus turvatarkkailusta"/'Warning for security surveillance' is selected on options. When tried, no warning of what so ever is presented, no sound or visual alert, nor nothing special could be seen on display when driven past cameras that has been there for years. The situation is the same when I tested using offline or onlive navigation.
Is there anyone out there that has a Nokia 5230 and is able to be alerted to Safety cameras in offline mode ? I purchased this phone in Feb and have upgraded to 3.03, have deleted Cities folder and QF folder and reloaded both 3.03 software and maps so many times I've lost count - but still get no Safety Spot notification ( Safety Spots is 'on' in navigation settings ). Interestingly there is a folder called 'Safety Spots' under the Cities Folder - diskcashe file, but when you access it there is no data in the file .
I have no idea if the camera warnings appear in online mode as this never seems to work as I always get the message ' something went wrong and the connection failed - please try again' - I have no idea how to fix this, the Internet settings for O2 are correct. In any case I have no intention of using maps online. My assumption is that the Safety Camera info is recd from the downloaded maps and therefore should work in offline mode.
I have a torch 9810 that i've been trying to view my Q-See cameras and since this version has version 7 ,supposedly according to Q-See teckniciansthere are no phone apps that will work with this phone. My old blackberry Torch 9800 had an app called DMSS which worked flawlessly, but will not work with this phone.
I have a x6 with 3.03 maps loaded and touch wood it navigates fine without connecting to the internet. Now when i view OVI Maps on my PC i can see speed camera locations on screen. Why are they not on my phone or how do i get them on my phone? Anyone know
My Vivaz does not warn me that my battery is about to discharge completely.I could not find a way to check this in the manual or in this forum...may be someone had the same problem and can help?
I have a iphone 4s and wanted to know if apple uses gorilla glass on both cameras? Does the front and back both use it? Do neither use it? If not what materials do they use on their cameras?
My xperia neo has lost ability to switch cameras from the back to front facing. When I go in to camera menu the opposition to pick front or back camera is not there. I've done all the resetting that can be done.
The county where I live -- Montgomery County, MD -- has installed dozens of these cameras and is continuing to install more. I've already been ticketed three times and I'm a very conservative driver. Those cameras get you even if you're not intentionally speeding, but are simply not paying close enough attention and happen to be exceeding the posted limit by more 10 mph. There is one called "RadarActive Speed Trap" on the App Store, but I can't tell from the description whether it gives you an audible warning that you're approaching a camera or not.
Shortly after I purchased my Xperia Play (Verizon) I did the update and everything was fine (2.3.3). Now when I try to take pictures they only show up with a green tint kind of like having night vision. It's doing this for both the front and rear facing cameras. It shows up in the preview as well. Also, when I try to send out texts it only says "Sending" they never get sent, but I can receive texts any time. I've been contemplating doing a restore to it but I don't want to waste my time if it doesn't fix anything and I definitely don't want to go through installing everything again.
I am unable to use Ovi suite as my nokia 5230 won't be recognised.I have deleted the Ovi suite twice and have even tried it on my other computer and it is still not being recognised.I have a new nokia data cable CA-101, but as soon as I connect it I get USB device not recognised.
After getting MfE to work my E72 has enabled autolock so whenever I switch my phone I have to enter the lock code. If my phone is idle more than 15 minutes I also have to enter a lock code to enable my phone. I can not turn this feature off. I get the message "Unable to unlock". I can not change the 15 minute timer either.

I have an 5230 model wich is working properly, expect one thing, when I switch it OFF, after it takes plenty of time while I can switch ON again. I keep pushing ON button for seconds (as in the manual) till the buzzer and NOKIA logo coming on screen but after 10-15 sec the screen turn dark again and nothing. Mobile is switched off again. I should do every time that process again for ages while finally it switch on.
Just got a new 5230.Downloaded Ovi map 3.04 and installed on phone.Downloaded Ovi Suite for PC.Opened Ovi Suite adn downlaoded a map or my province, and the UK Voice w/ street names.Downlaod was successful adn I got messege that it was transfered to phone. Ovi Suite continually claims that The map is installed on my phone.I stqrt Ovi Maps on my phone, and after acquiring a strong signal, all i get is my co-ordinates, but no map is displayed. No terrain map, no satellite map, no street map.I've installed the app to phone two more times, and re-download and installed the map to my phone more than twice. Still the same problem.I've tried with both A-GPS and phone-only GPS. All signals from cell provider are very strong.Am i missing something, or is my phone having a brain-**bleep**? Having cell-independant GPS is what led me to grab this phone, as I'm out of cell range often. This is getting very frustrating and I'm starting to pull my hair out.
I received Nokia 5230 as a gift. while i getting it i didn't know it's locked by operator.(3UK). anyway now i want to unlock it. Please help me sir. I really want to unlock it. If i hard reset it, can I unlock it?
I am a new owner of a Nokia Nuron 5230 (via T-Mobile USA) and I am extremely happy with it. Still, I have a couple of issues which I would like to solve with your help: a) is there a way to turn off or, better, totally eliminate the idiotic T-Mobile jingle when the phone is turned on, and off? At the very least, can I somehow kill the sound of this horrible commercial? b) in the OVI maps manual it says the following on how to save a place: Save a place 1 In the map view, go to the location. To search for an address or place, select Search. 2 Press the scroll key. My N5230 does not have a scroll key. What can I do? c) still in Ovi Maps; I noticed that when I search for a place, it is a good idea to repeat the exact same search at least three times. Ovi Maps often finds nothing on the first or second try, but does find it on the third. Why is that? d) again in Ovi Maps: when I am in the 'drive' mode and I have entered to point to drive to, I noticed that when a swipe my finger from right to left I get a 4 different kind of map views. Where can I find details about these views? (they are not documented in the manual I have) e) last Ovi question: what is the best way to create a route and then look at it in a way similar to what GoogleMaps offers: a map covering start and finish, with the basic data (time, distance, etc.). I have not found a good way to create a route.
How to read pdf on my nokia 5230? Does a pdf reader comes built in with 5230 or i have to install an application? If i have to install an application, which one will help?

The battery is overheating, the phone is also heated a lot and can barely hold it.I took out the battery and let it cool for sometime but when I put it back the phone doesnt switch on.Even after charging again for a few mins it doesn't switch on. whats the problem exactly? the battery or the phone? its a few months old only.
