I tried moving a picture to the sd using File Manager HD and it won't let.I also see that the internal card is the only one that's labeled drw. All the other folders including the external sd show dr- as the folder properties. So is the sd writeable now or not?
A question for Motorola Management, why is there no SD card Support? eg. a fully functional SD card as per every other sd card slot in devices. And don't go side-lining this as a duplication, this is a straight question requiring a straight answer.
My friend about to buy a motorola xoom 3g+wifi for me in UK. In my country we can't use 3g service without simcard. Anyone tried to use 3g service with simcard?
We have two stock 32GB WiFi/LTE Xooms. We both started receiving SIM card error dialog boxes when we try to access the internet. The box states that the SIM card is unauthorized and recommends that we contact our wireless provider's customer service for assistance. This started happening after we accepted the new build number (HLK75F).
I have the SD card in my Xoom and mounted. No problems there ( the card is mounted through Settings > Storage > Mount ). How do I use it to store music, pics and video? Do I need to create a MUSIC directory on the card?I can't seem to find any docs on this, so suggestions on how to integrate the use of the card within my daily tablet life would be helpful.
I have a Wi-Fi Xoom with 32G of internal storage and Android 3.2. When I insert a 16G SanDisk Class 4 micro SD card and power up,I am unable to mount the card. I go to Settings>Storage, and get an error message, with the option to Force Close or Send Report. Most of the time, the app closes itself with no action on my part. If I insert the SD card while the Xoom is powered on, I get a different problem. I am able to get to the storage setting, and there is an option to mount the card. However, pressing on that option doesn't cause anything to happen. The card is formatted as FAT32. I have copied some files to it on my PC, and the files are there when I connect the card back to the PC. I've checked the board here, and not seen this problem addressed.
I need a simple clarification that I can't find discussed plainly in any of the SD threads. As I understand it, an SD card is completely unusable at this time. For example, files can't be transferred there through a program such as Quick Office. Is this correct?
We bought a Xoom to use on vacation instead of taking a laptop. I want to download photos and videos taken with my Canon Camera into my Xoom. I have the adapter for the Canon that allow me to convert the SDHD to a Micro SD, so that I can pop in ito the Xoom. I can view the photos fronm the Canon card on the Xoom, but it won't let me download them into the device. I don't want to have to go thru a computer to do this. So is it possible to download from the SD card onto the Xoom.
Also, when we watch the videos that were recorded on the Canon with the Xoom, they are at a slowed down speed. Would seem that if they were actually downloaded to the Xoom, it would take care of this issue.
I do not want to use the Xoom to take these photos. My Canon camera is the device we will use to capture the photos for multiple reasons.
Is the Xoom f.e. capable of moving apps to an sd card? I've tried several such apps, but none seem to work. Is this a hardware issue / limitation of the f.e or can someone recommend an app2sd card app for the f.e..?
I have been researching SD Cards at Amazon. Getting prepared for the eventual software update from Motorola. I have seen a Sandisk 32 GB Micro SDHC listed at Amazon. Is this a good card for the XOOM. I am VERY happy with my Xoom so far.
I saw a similiar discussion in the Non-US Xoom forum while I was searching for an answer to this same problem. Somehow the SD card cover came off of my Xoom. Does anyone know how to order a replacement
I just bought a Xoom wifi only because I thought it would be handy to have a tablet that I can use to swap files between my pc and my device, and now I see that though there is an sd slot it's pretty much just a decoration at this point. Does anyone know if there is a way to get this thing to work, or when Motorola/Andriod will fix that? And yes, I do know there are apps that I can use to access PC files over a wireless network, but i wanted to be able to bring a few sd cards worth of movies with me on the road when i travel since after i fill the device up with music and apps there's not a whole lot of room left.
Got the 3.2 update for my wifi xoom today and it supports the SD card slot! So, the obvious question is which one is recommended? Where can I find the specs for supported SD card speeds? I don't want to shell out the big bucks for the class 10 if the xoom only supports up to class 6 for example.
I have setup Astro file manager to default to the external SD card when saving and retrieving files.
Today I was "editing" a PDF and after saving the edits chose to "send" it from the app itself. The app prompted me to use Gmail. It opened Gmail and, as far as I could see, attached the file to the message and prepared to send it. I sent it to my work email address. I was not on line at that time however not long after finding a hotspot I noticed that the message appeared on my work blackberry. BUT no attachment.
So then I , on my XOOM, opened Gmail and manually attached the file to the message and sent it. Again it appeared on my blackberry but again with no attachement.
I then went into Astro and moved the file onto the internal memory, created a new Gmail message and located the file internally, attached it to the message and sent it. This time my blackberry showed an attachment. So it seems that whilst I can open files from the external SAD card, edit them and save them I cannot pick up these files for attaching to an email.
Is this a XOOM or an OS issue? If an OS issue does ICS resolve it? If a XOOM issue, why is such a basic requirement overlooked?
Can anyone shed light on the SD card issue. Was it activated as read only on purpose or is this a bug. Will everyone be satisfied with a read only SD card?
I have a problem with the sd card on my Xoom wifi with Android 4.0.4. I have my music collection on an sd card which is loaded in my Xoom. Initially the music plays fine in the Google Play Music App, but after using the tablet for a day or two the music will no longer play. I get a message that the music cannot be played. This message then appears when attempting to play any music on the sd card.
I can temporarily fix the problem by erasing the Media Storage and Google Play Music data or resetting the tablet as suggested by gmanapps, but the problem repeats itself. I also tried syncing/not syncing with Google Music, disabling the Google Play Music app and using an alternate player, and formatting the sd card.
In general I have been happy with my Xoom, but this issue really concerns me. Does this point to a larger problem of stability in the Android file structure?
I have a Canadian Xoom updated to 3.1, When I plug the usb into my laptop I see MZ604Device Storage - no SD Card. I have an SD card in the device which I can see when I access the 'Files' app.
Others may have asked this but I can't find an answer that works for my Xoom. I have a 3G Xoom operating on 3.1 but it won't recognise the SIM card.
I have:
Tried turning the unit off and repowering it - no success Tried using the SIM card from my mobile phone - no success Removed the SIM and resinserted it - no success When I look at Settings/Wireless and Networks/Mobile Network Settings, I have Data Enabled checked.
If i open the SIM card slot, I immediately get a message "SIM error - A SIM card error has occured. A mobile data connection cannot be made until you insert a valid SIM and power cycle the device. Please contact Customer Care if the problem persists".
When I reinsert the SIM, I get a triangle with an exclamation mark in the bottom right corner saying "No Service - Selected network (Vodafone AU) unavailable". Now when I go back to Settings/Wireless and Networks, the Mobile Network Settings option is greyed out an unavailable.
When I turn the Xoom off and then restart it, that Mobile Network Settings option is available again. MASSIVELY frustrated as I can't find out whether it's a setting that needs adjusting, whether it's the Xoom itself, a 3.1 problem.
I have updated my Xoom to 3.1 and now have my sd card active. I have put a picture (jpeg) folder onto the sd card, and now I want to link the folder to the Gallery shortcut on my tablet so that I can show my pictures using the Gallery shortcut instead of having to go via my file manager app and then selecting the individual pictures on the sd card.
Just received a 32GB PNY Class 10 card and installed it in my 3G Xoom. Everything appears to be working, create directories, copied videos to the Video directory, etc. The same videos I moved to the SD card all played just fine from the default directory.Video app sees the videos, but when I attempt to open a video the screen dims and nothing happens. I've stopped the Video app, cleared the cache, and unmounted and remounted the SD Card.
As of Friday (yesterday), my external SD card (32Gb) is being mounted READ ONLY by the system. I cannot use any app on the XOOM to write files, or move files, on that card. I have tried andSMB, andFTP, Astro file manager, andExplorer, File Manager HD. I have taken the card out of the system and reformatted it using the SD formatting utility from the SD association on a PC. I have tried another (2Gb) card and the same problem exists. Both cards work flawlessly using a card reader on a PC.
I can write to it only via an MTP connection to a PC. Today, the card is labelled "SD Card" under MTP. Before yesterday, it was "External Storage". Before yesterday, I had no problem using either andSMB or andFTP to download files to the SD card. I am assuming there was something in a recent update that has removed this feature from my device. When I got the device, it was at 3.2. Now it is at 4.1.1.
How do I get this card to mount R/W so I can actually use it on my device as WRITABLE STORAGE, like I was allowed to do just a week ago? How do I get this device to stop magically updating itself, so I can prevent you (Motorola, Google, whatever) from removing functions that I have already used, need, and expect to continue working? I actually don't care if an update is what broke this or something else, I do not want automatic updates enabled, and I can see no means of preventing them, other than giving up WiFi capabilities permanently. This is a XOOM Wi-Fi.
