Motorola Droid X2 :: Tell Apps To Store On My SD Card?
Feb 8, 2012
I am finally maxing out my internal storage and I really have not tried, or paid attention to storing any of the apps I have to my SD card. Also, I am getting these notifications everytime I power off and power back on again that say I am low on internal storage (hence the desire to start saving to my SD card). I do not find the directory structure of the SD card for the Droid X2 very intuitive . . . on the other hand, to be fair I haven't really spent the time to understand it either because I didn't have the need to until now. As an example, I have an Angry Bird "update" that I tried to download. However, when it gets to the point where it is almost done, it says it cannot complete the download because I do not have enough space. It is referring to my internal storage of which I have 0 GB. How do I switch the storage to my SD card instead of my internal storage, or does it depend on the app (and in this case Angry Birds just doesn't allow SD card storage?).
Just received my refurbished DX to hopefully work better than my current one which has been a pain since the Gingerbread update. I have quite a few apps installed on my SD card that didn't make it through the lame VZ backup. Do I have to reinstall them from the market or is there a way to just have them recognized?
does anyone know how to specify an app be downloaded, stored, or moved to the SD card, without using a 3rd party app? I just started using the droidx2, I bought a nice class 10 micro sd card, and all I can store on it are photos/videos/notes. im waiting for the tech manual from Motorola to arrive.
I have a Droid 4 through Verizon running Graham Cracker. I recently had a 4g Sandisk Nicro SD card installed and it worked fine. I turned off my phone, removed the 4gb card and installed a 32gb Sandisk Micro SD card. The installation seemed to have gone successfully. When I turned on my phone it asked me if I wanted to move my media to the SDcard and it moved all those files. When I went to move my apps and I select a movable app, the only choice I have is "move to media area" I do not have a chice to move to SD card. I have restarted the phone looked at and moved data around on teh SD card from the phone and when connected to a pc and that all works fine.
Every time I connect my phone to a laptop, all of my apps that are saved to the sd card disappear from the home screen. Also, if I move an app to the sd card, when it's not connected to a computer, it disappears from my home screen as well.It seems like a recent update to the phone has caused problems with app to sd functionality. Is there any way to fix this other than moving all my apps back to the phone?
I have a few apps on my phone that can't locate the sd card. The most important of these (to me) are apps that are designed to read or import csv files and create little databases from the data.
All of them look for files on the sd card automatically and report that none are present (of course, I know they are because I put them there). One of them offers the option of searching for the files manually. When I do, instead of displaying the contents of my sd card, it displays the contents of my internal storage. I suspect that's where the apps that search automatically are looking as well.
I tried dismounting/remounting the sd card. Didn't work.
Yesterday I spoke to a second tier Motorola support agent. He tried various things by taking charge of my phone remotely, then did a factory reset. No joy. He said that in his opinion, the apps (all four of them) are at fault.
One of those apps worked perfectly under Gingerbread. I downloaded the other three when it stopped working after the ICS upgrade.
I had a similar problem with an mp3 player when it tried to automatically find the mp3 folder on my sd card. Did the same thing: examined the internal storage instead, even though I chose the option to search the external card. Fortunately, that app also had an option to search manually, and that function saw the sd card.
These data apps are very important to me. One developer said he's working on an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade. The other developers haven't replied, though their sites claim that their products are compatible with Android 4.
Is this an operating system problem? A device problem? Is there a way to "tell" apps the path to your sd card? The names of the apps: Panacea Database, Sailforms, Memento, Collector.
If anyone else using a Razr Maxx running Ice Cream has found an app that can successfully import a csv file or read an mdb file (Microsoft Access) on the sd card
In my Droid X, when I go to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>On SD Card, to the right of some of the apps is a green box with a check mark in the box. To the right of the other apps on the SD card is a grayed out box. I cannot turn the green box into a gray box and I cannot turn the gray box into a green box by tapping on the box.
What does the green box indicate and what does the grayed out box indicate? What changes the box from green to gray and gray to green?
In my quest to transfer my apps from internal phone storage to my SD CCard I discovered that Motorola refers to (or is it Android) to your SD card as 'media storage'. In an attempt to use the 'Manage Apps' feature and selecting 'Media area' I see apps with check marks and those without. I thought that the ones with checkmarks are those already on the SD Card and those without are those that are not on the SD Card, but might be able to be put on the SD Card. (Another user via another question I put out there indicated that the check marks indicate whether or not an app can be stored to the SD Card . . . is that true?). At any rate I am getting the following message when I select an app and select the 'move to media storage' button.
Failure to move application. There is not enough storage left. Here is the particulars of my current state of storage -
Application Storage - 1.04 GB Internal Storage- Total Space: 4.36 GB Available Space: 4.88 GB SD Card - Total Space: 29.71 GB Available Space: 28.79 GB
*So I have plenty of SD Card space, why am I getting this error? Is the one user correct that just because I see an app in the media area tab, that doesn't mean that it can be transfered? Also, when I select an app and the button to move it to the media area is selectable (not greyed out) . . . shouldn't it be selectable without getting the failure I keep getting? Obvoiusly I have PLENTY of SD Card space, so there is something I obviously do not understand.
I want to make my apps install to the SD Card (32GB) like they did with GB installed.I know there has got to be a way - I did an FDR before and after ICS, So I've downloaded 2 apps that I've bought and don't see how to move to SD Card (says internel and/or phone, but no SD option)
I'm having issues when I move apps to the sd card using the installed software. The app icons disappear from the app menu and if I have a widget on my homescreen I get a message saying the app isn't installed. When I go into the manage app setting, I can see the apps but their icons don't show. I've had to uninstall them and then reinstall them to get them to work. I guess for now, I won't be moving apps to the sd card, but I'm trying to keep my internal memory free.
Today my droid x 2 wont install or update my apps I get an error message that reads "couldn't install on USB storage or SD card". I have turned off my phone did a battery pull, took out sd card put it back in and cleared market data and cache. And still have the problem.
I have a variety of apps that create export or backup files. How can the apps access the SD card storage directly? I recently replaced (under warrenty) my Bionic and it was a pain. I backed up everthing (app data that is) thinking the "backup" was going to the SD card, since all I got was a file address (or name). Once I moved the battery, SIM and SD card from one phone to the other, I realized that all the files were on the internal staroage and still on the old phone, not the SD card. This meant moving all of the hardware back to the old phone, finding all of the files stored on the internal storage, moving them to the SD card, switching everything back to the new phone and moving the files from the SD card to the internal storage - all the time hoping I got them in the right place (which wasn't necessarily the case all of the time).
i have a htc desire phone. When i try to download apps from the market, they are automatically installing in my phone memory. Can anyone please tell me the way to install them on my SD card instead. I'm currently running out of phone memory, so i have to install other apps on my sd card?
I recently bought my bb curve and downloaded only a couple off apps and noticed that that the number that says the memory is in the red and on like 22MB left.I was wondering if there was any way to change it so the apps are saved onto the mini SD card?
Just wondering what philosophies different users have with regards to storing applications. Do you store a particular type of apps on memory card or just any app?
is there any chance to store apps installs on the memory card, so i can store them and install when i want, after reset, reinstall, instead of downloading them everytime from store?

I have a motorola atrix ,I get on the play store and when I try to download a app it will not download is there a setting it needs to be on to download .
After the Market was replaced with "Play" I had replaced the home screen icon with the new one, and it had been working fine for days. But this morning the icon on the desktop was no longer connected to the new Play Store.Or anything else.
I couldn't get it to fire up from the app drawer either, so I took a look at the application manager in Settings. One of the uptions was "uninstall updates" so I figured if I did that it would go back to the original Market and then I could let everything update from there.
That appears to have been a mistake. I got an error that said it was unable to uninstall the updates, but now the app manager shows the Play Store has a 0KB size, and it still doesn't launch.
I was looking through the Play Store and noticed something odd - it's showing me that MotoCast is "unsupported" for my Droid Razr Maxx running ICS 4.0.4 even though I have the app on my phone already and it is CLEARLY working fine.
my friend has the bionic and got the update Monday night, she was dropping data signals by the next day. we tried everything, airplane mode on/off, battery pulls, uninstalled all apps, factory reset, new sim, cleared history/cache/cookies and everything else mentioned here (I had 3 bionics myself) but it is still dropping.what prompted the new SIM was her attempt to return the phone but was outside the return period...rep stated between the update and SIM, it would resolve the data dropping, but 20 minutes after leaving the store it dropped, which led to the factory reset.
Google just updated the market and gave it a new name, the "Play Store". Now the little shortcut in Blurs launcher gives an error when you click on it (the one in the top right). It says that the "Application is not installed in your phone". Seems like the update broke the path/link.
Is the Xoom f.e. capable of moving apps to an sd card? I've tried several such apps, but none seem to work. Is this a hardware issue / limitation of the f.e or can someone recommend an app2sd card app for the f.e..?
I did a factory reset to fix a couple of issues with wireless and screen brightness dropping out of auto, and before I did that, I moved all of my apps to my SD card. I see them in the directory .android_secure (from my PC since none of the filemanagers I have can see the directory) but I'm baffled as to how to re-install them.
