Motorola Droid X2 :: Internet Pass Through - Reverse Tethering
Oct 30, 2011
HTC has enabled a reverse tethering feature called Internet Passthrough that allows unrooted smartphones to use the internet connections of standard computers -- via a USB cable connection.
Can we ever expect Motorola to provide the same functionality?
How can I the Xperia Z2 use the Internet connection provided by a PC through USB cable? WiFi is not an option, would prefer not to install any apps on the mobile since all which I have found were asking for rooting the device. It's very surprising that it's not in the settings by defualt. It can be easily set on other devices (e.g. HTC), and the regular tethering (using the phone's internet connection for the PC) can be set on the phone as well.
Further I wonder why are the options in Settings on Xperia Z2 so limited? No manipulation for the USB connection, no developer's setting, why?
I am currently using smg925i rom XtreStoLite. Mod to enable usb reverse tethering in s6 edge. I want to use my PC internet connection on my mobile. This feature was available in htc one m7 but missing in s6edge...
how to share internet connection from pc to iphone by using USB cable? It is called reverse tethering I guess. I heard that it was implemented in iphone 3G/3GS and apple removed the feature.I heard the rumors that is because apple wants people to use iphone as the primary device and computer as secondary device. For the people like me, we really need reversed tethering because working with desktop computers and Ethernet cable is the only option to internet and those desktops don't have wifi.
My gmail works like this; gmail loads both phone and PC with new mail. I can delete selected new mail on PC, then power the phone off/on and the phone updates to show that the mail was deleted. My hotmail loads both phone and PC with new mail. I delete mail on PC and power phone off/on but it doesn't update on the phone. I have 8 emails on PC and 87 emails on the phone. If hotmail can comunicate with the phone to load mail, why won't it comunicate with the phone to delete mail?
My collegue has an HTC phone that has an option to connect to the internet under manage usb connections. My Windows 6.5 phone just connected without pressing buttons. How can I get this option up on my Atrix?I need to connect to the office internet connection via usb.
USB Tethering is an option under connectivity.Do I require a Hotspot Tethering plan in order to use this feature and or will I be charged if I do use the feature?
If you use your RAZR / RAZR MAXX for tethering, or as a hotspot, for connecting a WiFi-only tablet or laptop PC wirelessly to the Internet, how is it affecting your phone's battery power consumption?
I moved from the droid x to the razr a couple weeks ago, I'm having trouble using my tethering on laptops and desktops. I can connect my Xoom and iPad just fine, but my laptop and desktop both windows 7 ultimate say they cannot connect. I have not tried to connect with USB so I don't know if that works. when or if we can get ICS for the razr?
Can I use internet tethering to link my iPad 3WIFI to the internet through my iPhone 3GS? My provider O2 assures me I can with the tariff I have for my iPhone. If so, how do I do it?
Some people that haves BB told me that they could pass the BB internet to their lap-tops, and I wanna know HOW CAN I DO IT and if I have to pay to Sprint (that is my company) that use.
Internet Pass Through is working with one of my home PC but not my office's one! It was working last week but since I upgraded to Viper rom with Sense 5.5 it simply stopped working with my office's PC. At home I installed Windows 8.1 this week and it works flawlessly.
The weird thing is that both HTC Sync Manager and Driver pack are from the same source. I uninstalled and reinstalled both software and drivers 10 times but still no joy. Disabled Windows Firewall and Avast Antivirus but still no joy. I don't know if it's a driver thingy or a network problem somewhere between my office's PC lan and the router that is suddenly not liking my HTC...
I've just moved over to Samsung from HTC (Desire HD). One great feature I used the "Internet Pass-Through" which is kinda the opposite of tethering, where I was able to get internet from my PC onto my phone at times when there was no wireless available so I had to plud a cable in my PC to get internet, then by connecting my phone to the PC via cable, I was able to use the PC's internet connection on my phone, which was great for down loading all my RSS feeds and so on.I've looked for this feature in my new SG S2 and could not find anything remotely like that. Is there a work around which can be done, or perhaps an app that does the same job?
I have Sensation running Android 2.3.4. I am trying to use the Internet Pass-Through feature. I also have the latest version of HTC Sync and HTC USB Drivers installed on my laptop running Windows 7.When I connect the mobile to the laptop and select the Internet Pass-Through option, it says that the same is active on the mobile, but I cannot access any internet on the mobile. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall HTC Sync and all drivers a couple of times already, but still not working.
I have a problem with my handphone. It's to use the Internet pass-through facilitySometimes I can fix it , but after I disconnect the usb cable and want to use the facility, internet pass-through becomes difficult to use.questions: 1. How is the right step in using the internet facility pass-through? 2. What is the relationship between the Internet pass through with a USB debugging?
I'm the proud owner of a brand spanking new /white/ iPhone 3GS. I moved to AT&T from VZW and a droid (this phone is MILES ahead of android in terms of OS usability especially since I have a Mac, the syncing is seamless).
I got really lucky and the phone was a 3.1.2 (bought it a few days ago) so I was able to JB (tethered). I started playing around and tried out MyWi for the wifi tethering and it worked awesomely with my MacBook.
Here's my question:
I noticed that under settings>general>network, I have an internet tethering option that uses USB or Bluetooth. Is this a hack that was enabled inadvertently through something I did in the jailbreak process, or is this an AT&T feature that I will be charged extra for using? I'm curious because this seems like a cleaner approach since it's built into the OS.
I often use iphone tethering for connecting to internet. But on 3G network, the speed of data transfer is very slower than wifi network. So I got a question why apple only provides hotspot tethering on 3G network. I suceed to pairing iphone 4s & new ipad with bluetooth for hotspot connection. My iphone already was connect on wifi network but after pairing for hotspot, wifi connection was disconnected automatically. For tethering I use bluethooth connection but not wifi connection. I think It's an unefficient way. Because I got an iphone account for accessing to wifi network but not new ipad, I try new ipad on fast network using iphone hotspot. How can I do that like below feaguire? [new ipad] ---(bluetooth tethering)--> [iphone 4s] --(wifi)--> wireless faster network.
I noticed there is a swirling circle next to "Internet Tethering" in the network settings setup menu. Is this normal? Can someone check their iPhone 4?
I bought a z2 a few weeks ago and really liked it, everything worked well, including tethering... but since the latest android update, the tethering has stopped working.
When trying to tether, my computer connects to the phone, but it says 'no internet connection'. I am on the 3 network and use tethering a LOT for work... I have checked all the settings on my phone and changed the APN type from ''default,supl,mms,a-gps' to 'internet+mms' as suggested here: [URL].....
But it made no difference. I dont know what else to try? It seems like there are a few others with the same issue. I am having to take the sim card out and put it in my old phone while at work so I can connect to the internet via tethering...
connected my phone to the PC and selected USB tethering. After I disconnect my phone from PC, I am not able to enable mobile network. I select Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Network. It says ' Use phone for data connection when Wi-fi is unavailable' even though Wi-fi is switched off. Edge icon does not come up in the task bar. Has anyone faced this issue? Please let me know if I have to change some settings.
I've just updated my Lumia 800 to Tango. I now see the Internet sharing option. I can switch it on, other clients can see and connect to the WiFi hotspot.I tried to tether my Windows 7 laptop to the phone, but no luck - I cannot actually use the tethered connection to browse the Internet.I don't have any restrictions on my Internet usage plan.I can confirm this because with the same data plan (and SIM), my E6 (with Joiku hotspot) can share its Internet connection without any hassles.
I've been trying to tether my Sony Erricson Xperia Neo to a laptop pc. Android OS.I first tried USB tethering but my laptop had no internet access, so I instead tried setting up a portable wifi hotspot to see if that would work. My laptop recognised the network I had created and I joined it succesfully, but I had no internet access. (Note: When I used USB tethering another network was recognised by the laptop)
I checked my phone and the 3g icon which shows that mobile internet is enabled (the two little verticle arrows with 3g above them) were not visible, but when I disabled the wi-fi hotspot, the icon appeared again. I'm not sure whether this is normal but could it be that 3g is being disabled with the activation of hotspotting, or is it just hidden automatically when wi-fi hotspotting is disabled? I find sometimes that the 3g icon disapears for no reason in areas I previously have had good signal, and then when I try and connect it takes a few seconds and then the icon appears again and I can connect.
I want to buy 1020 (used my quantum until I lost it last year and then replaced with a focus). I am planning on buying it outright since want to unlock as will use it for travel a lot and saw that ATT is unlocking which is great. But with my focus, though it is unlocked and even with other sim cards in it, I cannot tether since it still tells me to contact ATT. Every once in a while, sims on some carriers in some countries (I have like 40-50 of them) will allow internet sharing...but pretty rare. 3G/4G is way better than the wifi you can find.
So my question is will I be able to unlock 1020 tethering if I buy the phone from ATT. I am travelling to the UK next month and wanted to buy the 64gb version of telefonica carrier since I imagine this would be sim unlocked and tether unlocked--is that right? I also get that I will be paying a serious premium for this, but hope that I might be able to get VAT back when leaving which will take away...
I have had my SG2 (On three with "all you can eat data") for about two weeks and the last week I keep getting a tethering block, several times a day, when using internet or network error while using apps. this can only be fixed by rebooting the phone. I have not used the phone for tethering or as a wifi hot spot so don't know why its doing it. I have replaced the sim card and done a factory reset on the phone but it is still doing it. When I get the error in the internet app there's a link to the three website which does work.
I read about apps that allow tethering of other devices without the additional tethering plans... foxfi was one that was suggested... however, I don't think it is working on the S6. Any app that works?
Motorola Droid (2.2 system); had it almost 2 years. Browser wont' connect to anything...not even google.
Click on "Browser" icon and get message "www.google.com - The page does not support your version of browser. Please update your software" with a browser update button. (I don't click on things I don't request). When I try "google search" icon I get search page but any search results in the same message as above.Click on "Market" I get "Attention - A server error has occurred. Retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen."Trying any other apps results in various message that say they have problems communicating with the server.
I have noticed that my phone is very slow connecting to the Internet when it first turns on or after it has been sitting for awhile. It takes about a minute or so for it to finally get going it just hangs there at first. Some sites take longer than others but they all do it. Once it grabs its good until you set it down again
