where we can manually scan the SD card so ringtones etc. Would show up in ringtones and notification areas etc. Instead of having to reboot the phone everytime to scan the sd card I move or add a ringtone etc. Yes I've tried apps that are in the market and they don't work and still have to reboot to scan the SD card.
Had to get a replacement phone (dropped it screen cracked) replaced the sim card from the first phone and the SD card everything came back including my downloaded apps but if you go into settings/storage/SD card it shows unavailable and in the ongoing at the top of the home screen it shows preparing SD card but it's been running forever it knows it is there and I've looked at it on my computer the files are there, any thoughts?
I have just 'upgraded' from my trusty DroidX to a Droid Razr Maxx HD (what a mouthful). The new device has a nice screen but (apart from the backside) the overall finish / design is nowhere near as elegant as the DroidX. Sigh.My question is this: on my old trusty DroidX the external SD card that came with the device was already pre-configured as the default location for all app data (I'm not talking about the app executables), the camera storage (/DCIM etc), music and my own files (text, excel, pdf etc). On the new Razr Maxx HD there is an internal 'SD Card' (how can an SD Card be 'internal'?!?) and this is the default location for all data files.
After some snooping around I found that the internal 'card' is at /mnt/sdcard and the external card is at /mnt/external1. How does Verizon/Motorola expect a consumer find out this or work with this information?Of course, I can go into camera settings to re-point the camera to store photos on the (real) external SD card. But the screen capture utility (power and volume down) still writes to the internal area - as does the Download capability (ie from email) - and as do all other apps for their 'data' files (remember, I'm not talking about the apps executable files here). Is there a simple way (for us non-rooted phones) to set the true external SD Card as the default destination for all data files? The current set-up is sooo frustrating. I can't just whip the SD card out of the phone and know all my data is in this one place.
I was putting in my micro sd card on my 3 week old razr when I noticed it broke the screen above the sd slot and now the whole screen is busted. A freakish issue but Verizon claims it is not covered under normal warranty until told by motorolo. Anyone else had or heard of this issue? I really wish it was covered under Motorola but don't know yet.
What is the proper procedure to upgrade my 16gig SD card with 32gig card? I know I need to copy the contents to the larger one so is it just a matter of copying it's contents for example to my pc then copy the contents with the same folder structure over to the new card and simply insert the new card?
I have a few apps on my phone that can't locate the sd card. The most important of these (to me) are apps that are designed to read or import csv files and create little databases from the data.
All of them look for files on the sd card automatically and report that none are present (of course, I know they are because I put them there). One of them offers the option of searching for the files manually. When I do, instead of displaying the contents of my sd card, it displays the contents of my internal storage. I suspect that's where the apps that search automatically are looking as well.
I tried dismounting/remounting the sd card. Didn't work.
Yesterday I spoke to a second tier Motorola support agent. He tried various things by taking charge of my phone remotely, then did a factory reset. No joy. He said that in his opinion, the apps (all four of them) are at fault.
One of those apps worked perfectly under Gingerbread. I downloaded the other three when it stopped working after the ICS upgrade.
I had a similar problem with an mp3 player when it tried to automatically find the mp3 folder on my sd card. Did the same thing: examined the internal storage instead, even though I chose the option to search the external card. Fortunately, that app also had an option to search manually, and that function saw the sd card.
These data apps are very important to me. One developer said he's working on an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade. The other developers haven't replied, though their sites claim that their products are compatible with Android 4.
Is this an operating system problem? A device problem? Is there a way to "tell" apps the path to your sd card? The names of the apps: Panacea Database, Sailforms, Memento, Collector.
If anyone else using a Razr Maxx running Ice Cream has found an app that can successfully import a csv file or read an mdb file (Microsoft Access) on the sd card
My wife replaced her Droid 2 with a Droid Razr M last week. When I activated the phone for her I discovered there is no toggle option to move any Apps from internal storage to the SD Card. This is usually found by going to Settings-Manage Apps-Download-App Info as a toggle "Move to SD Card/Move to Internal Storage". I went to Motorola's chat and exhausted their knowledge base and was then directed to a phone support number. After talking with a level 1 and level 2 help persons, they synched into my wife's phone and then compared a Razr M on their end. They finally admitted that the move option does not appear in the Razr M version of ICS. This is a critical omission considering the limited size of the Razr M internal storage.I was told by the level 2 that there might be Apps available to fix the problem. I tried App2SD but found it directed me back to the missing toggle. Is this true of all Razr M phones or is it a bug in the software of only a few? In either case, is there a service patch available to correct it?
My SD card becomes unmounted constantly. I am guessing that the cover that holds it in place is not working properly. Does anyone else have this problem and does anyone know how to fix it?
I often download large PowerPoint presentations or other office files from gmail and stock email app. By default they go to the download folder at /mnt/sdcard which is in fact not the sd card but internal memory. I would like these files to automatically download to the download folder on my sd card /mnt/external1/downloads. Is there some setting that would allow this?
How do I set my phone to use use my external SD card, 32 gig, for as much as possible so that I can try to use only what is mandatory on my internal storage? I have my camera set to use my external SD card I'm not sure how to set apps, downloads, music etc to use external. I'm assuming there is a recommendation that those of you who know more about using this phone than I that I should use?
I can see the mp3 and flac files when I connect my RAZR to my laptop, but the device itself can't see/play the music. Not sure what is going on here. why I can't access the music on my SD card that was fine on my Droid4? Seems odd that my music folder is empty (when I browse to it using files/astro.)
I have a 32gb class 4 ScanDisk MicroSD card for my Droid Razr M. Everything was fine until sometime yesterday (I think).I noticed this morning that my morning wake-up alarm was not what I had set it to, but was a generic sound. I checked the settings and all my "custom" ringtones were missing. I then went to the files app & saw that the SD card read "0.00 GB available." Clicked on it and it says "SD card not found. Please check that SD card is properly inserted and mounted." Funny, seeing as I haven't removed the card since I got the phone & it was working just fine up to this point. I've tried using a card reader to plug into my desktop & the computer doesn't even recognize that there is a card in the reader. I'd hate to do it but it looks like I might need to reformat the card thereby losing all of my pictures & music. The problem is that neither my phone nor my computer see the card.
After my Razr downloaded and installed the 2.3.6 update, my sd card quit working or should I say isn't recognized. Frustrating as I had EVERYTHING stored on my sd card. I called Verizon an the tech told me, "your sd card just went bad, they do that from time to time". We all know how long the Razr has been out, and that seems like such a short lifespan for a sd card, plus it is strange that it quit after the update.
On my brand new Razr (24hrs old!) - I have noticed that when the phone boots and the SD card is mounted, there is an Audible sound "DROID" - and its annoying. (Now, I am not talking about the mechanical sound/video that fires up when the phone boots). In Sound Settings I find a section called "SD Card Notifications". You can turn that off or on and here is the odd part. If I turn it On, it will use whatever I have the "Notification Ringtone" set at. That makes sense. If I turn if Off, it will use my "Phone Ring Tone"! - A long MP3... This does not make sense. In other words, I cannot silence it and I would like to. The phone does have a "Silent" ring tone (internally) but it is not one of the available "Notification Ringtones" I can use.
I just bought my wife the Razr Maxx HD phone. She had an HTC Thunderbolt with a 32gb microSD card containing music and photos. So, when we got her new phone, I put that microSD card into it. The phone found the music instantly, but it did not find any of the photos on the microSD card. I was able to find the photos on the card through the file explorer app on the phone located in a DCIM folder, but I cannot figure out how to get the phone to "see" and upload them to the phone's library.
I just recieved this phone from my wife today as an early Christmas Present. In setting it up I realized that as soon as my corporate email syncs with the device the SD card and the WiFi settings are disabled permenantly. Is there anyway I can get around this? Or is there something our IT department has to do differently to support this phone? I did not have this problem with my origninal droid.
I copied 7zip encrypted files to my external SD card using my laptop and then encrypted the SD card with the Razr M's FIPS compliant encryption engine and now I'm unable to open the 7zip encrypted files. I keep getting "Cannot open file as an archive" error, no mater what program I'm using.
I just set up MotoCast, and it's pretty awesome (I had no idea, because I have been using doubletwist this whole time). I do have two questions about downloading music to the phone via MotoCast.1.) Is there a way to designate downloads to go to the External SD card instead of internal memory? It seems like it will only go to internal memory until you max it out and it gives you the option to move things to the external card. This seems like a silly step, couldn't it just go directly to the external card?2.) My music displays in playlists when streaming from my computer, but when I select download a playlist and disconnect from the computer (in a no-data environement) the playlist disappears and all of my music is just dumped into the app unoragnized. Is there a way to maintain the playlist after data is dropped and you can't access your computer?
According to this Motorola FAQ about their Android encryption, "When SD card encryption is enabled, all new files added to the removable memory will be encrypted. Files stored on the card will not be readable via another phone or card reader connected to PC. User can transfer files from encrypted SD card to PC using embedded Phone Portal application." So what happens if a user encrypts their data and their phone dies? They will not have the opportunity to transfer it to a PC and the replacement phone will have a different ESN. Is their data recoverable via any other mechanism or is it lost forever?
I have a number of audio books that I loaded onto my SD card. I inserted the card into my RAZR Maxx HD and some of the books show the Artist and Book titles as "unknown".
I keep these files in a portable hard drive so when I look at them on my PC I have a folder with the Author's name and the book name. Inside the folder I have "Track 1", "Track 2" etc.
I just loaded 10 of these books (folders) and 4 of them show up in the "Play Music" app with "Unknown Album" and "Unknown Artist".
If I plug my phone into my PC I see all the folders with their author name and book title. I imagine that the app is looking at some information that is in the actual file to display the author and book title. Is there a way to get it to display the file names that folders actually have? If not is there a way that I can edit the "Unknown" fields?
The picture shows the files on my phone displayed on my PC and displyed on my Phone. Notice that all the folders have names on the PC but not on the phone.
I purchased the Moto Elite Sliver because my Plantronics Pro HD would drop its bluetooth every single time a call was answered or placed. I did a little research and found it may be related to a conflict with the 2.0 headset and 4.0 phone. Moto Sliver is BT 3.0 and was working great until this week. Now every single time a call is disconnected, the headset disconnects and reconnects. Reboots galore, problem still exists. Uninstall/reinstall Motospeak, problem still exists. Sometimes the bluetooth will not connect at all (reboot required). The Droid RAZR Maxx and the Elite Sliver are supposed to be state of the art MOTOROLA, I make a living with my phone and headset.
