Motorola Droid Razr :: 3G Icon Stays On When WiFi Is Connected?
Feb 11, 2012
Noticed lately that when I enable my Wifi connection that the 3G icon will stay active at the same time as the Wifi icon (I live in Northern New Jersey, no 4G for me). In this state, the Wifi icon is blue and the 3G icon is white. Usually when you activate wifi and it is done connecting the 3G icon goes away completely. Was thinking maybe one of my installed apps hosed this up. Tried running the phone in safe mode to see if it would change anything, but the condition persisted. Not a big deal, wifi works fine.......it's more of a problem with the owner (me) who can't seem to let things like this go
I noticed that the 4g data icon remains on when a WiFi connection is active on my Razr Maxx. Is this normal behavior? The reason I'm asking is because the 3g icon used to disappear on my Droid X when WiFi was connected, I thought the Maxx would behave in the same way.
Just picked up my RAZR. Only issue so far is the WiFi. The phone will connect to my home network but any attempt to use the browser gives a connection error. Same issue with any application that requires a data connection. My laptop connects with no issue and my Droid X connects with no problem.
So I got my RAZR about a week ago and it's great with the exception of WIFI. I can get it connected to my WIFI networks both at home and at work, but once they're connected, there's no data at all. I have tried disabling cellular data both manually and with a Smart Action once it's connected to WIFI and that doesn't help. I know it's not the network settings, as it's happening on multiple networks. The network at work is open, the one at home is normally WPA2-PSK but I tried changing the router to an open network and that didn't change anything either. My wife got a RAZR too and her phone has EXACTLY the same problem. Any ideas? I would *really* prefer to use WIFI data at home and at work instead of eating up my 4G/3G plan.
when I am connected via wif and the wifi bars are blue, sometime the phone bars are also blue and sometime the bars are white? I understand that blue signifies Google connected, but why would the phone data connect to google when wifi is available..
My friend has the aforementioned router. I can connect but get no data transfer. My tablet and my friends phones HTC incredible and og droid work just fine. We've done all the general troubleshooting and installed all updates still same problem a full connection but no data. I should note that my wifi works flawlessly in all other locations work home parents other friends etc.
I noticed when set on wifi the icon in task bar which used to be solid now flashes in the middle....WiFi seems to be working though.Has anyone else run into this
Every time I connect to Wifi, the 4G icon doesn't disappear... I can't tell if 4G is still connected. I can't be using cell data while on Wifi because I have the limited plan on Verizon. The only way I could get it to disappear was to go into Wifi settings and disable mobile data. How do I get it to not use 4G or make the icon disappear when I'm connected to Wifi?
My Razr constantly detects a HDMI cable connection, even though there is no HDMI cable near it (not even a USB cable is connected). A popup keeps showing up asking me to "Select Dock Type". This has been really annoying, as I need to dismiss it every time it shows up. I can't find a way to disable the detection of the HDMI cable.
This problem started after 2 weeks into owning the phone, back in mid December. I called Verizon technical support. They thought it was a hardware defect, and sent me a replacement phone. However, when I received the phone, I found that it was a refurbished phone with a big scratch on the side. I returned it and kept my original one.
Other than this problem, everything runs great, and I love my Razr. My question is: has anyone seen this problem? I have learned to deal with it by dismissing the popup every time I unlock the screen. Can a future software update include a setting where I can disable the HDMI detection?
I cannot get my PC to recognize my Razr Maxx. I downloaded the drivers and still no good. I am using the cable that came with the phone. When connected it does charge my phone.
My Razr is able to send each file to my other phone (Samsung S2) with bluetooth but it isn't able to receive any files: infact, the device results "paired but no connected" and refuses each kind of file. I turned off both devices and I turned on again, I paired again both phones but the problem persists: Razr sends files but doesn't receive them.No problem with my bluetooth headset.
My new Lumia 1020 was connected to wifi when I began setting it up. I got a data usage warning message the next day, so I made sure it was still connected to wifi - then I got another warning message advising me more charges were being applied to the data plan. I called ATT and explained and was told that the 4GLTE runs all kinds of stuff in the background that uses data and to turn the data off. I did - since then, no more data usage - however - it will not stay connected to wifi after a time out unless it is plugged in. It still shows that its connected to wifi but its not.
I just go an HD dock for my Droid RAZR but most of the options will not show up. Do you have to use an HDMI cable to make all of these work? Or can use a USB cable connected to a computer also?
I have WiFi enabled. Often when I am near a wireless access point, my RAZR M still uses 4G. It's as if the WiFi is going to sleep when I power the screen off, but it doesn't wake up again. Turning WiFi off and on makes it reconnect. It seems to happen mostly when I'm at home, where I also use the Motorola flip stand with "ESP" smart charger, and a NetGear dual-band wireless router/access point.
I want the display to stay on while connected to my 12VDC charger while in the car. I don't have an official Moto car dock. I have tried using Smart Actions but the only options seem to be changing the screen timeout option to a maximum of staying on for 10 minutes. I've tired many variations using Tasker and still no joy.
Voice input quits working when I place the phone in the car dock. Voice search (the app you get to by holding search) and Soundhound give me errors every time I try to use them with the vehicle dock connected. If I disconnect the vehicle dock, they work again, and as soon as I reconnect it they quit working.
Strangely enough, the app "Text by Voice" seems to be unaffected.
My HDMI icon stays in my status bar after I use HDMI to my TV. It won't go away until a reboot. Does anyone know why? Is there a procedure I'm not following to disconnect cable?
I just updated last week to Gingerbread but this was happening before that. I plug my phone into my factory charger and when I go to unplug it it says it is still charging. Dosent go away until I reboot the phone, any ideas? When it is fully charged the green led even stays lit. Dosent do it all the time just enough to be annoying. I really dont want to trade my phone for a reconditioned one since it is only three weeks old.
I am no longer connected to vzw so i use my d1 exclusively on wifi at home. The trouble is when the screen goes to sleep wifi is disconnected. This means no notifications for email etc. Is there a way to remain connected to wifi 24/7?
Can i still send sms through wifi with no wireless phone provider?
I'm seeing a problem since the update. When my phone is not connected to a bluetooth device, the icon is white (gray). When it is connect, it is blue. Sometime when I power off my headset (Motorola HX-1 or H17txt) I notice the icon stays blue.his is bothersome becuase I'm not sure if something else is connecting to my phone. I check the wireless settings and all my devices will show Paired but not connected.Anyone else seeing this issue? I'm in NYC a lot and call me crazy but I worry about these kind of things. Back in the analog cell phone days, my phone would get cloned at least every other month going over the GWB resulting in $3-4k in cell bills.
I just got my curve 8520 when i setup my wifi it picks up my wifi and connect but icon stays grey, i have checked the setting i can ping my router the DHCP server assigned me an ip but the icon stays grey
Typically when I am connected to wireless the 3g still shows but in white. Now when connected to wireless the 3g drops and only comes on when I turn off the wireless. Any ideas if this is normal after the update?
Why won't my phone remain connected to my home wifi network? It's very frustrating to play Words With Friends when I have to disconnect then reconnect to my network every few minutes. The network signal strength is listed as Excellent.
This is something I haven't run across before. I left work Friday phone was connected to our wifi no problem. Over the weekend the Bionic was on/off my home wifi without issue.
I come into the office this morning and wifi connects to the work wifi. The only data I get is LAN network so my exchange email and can access any device via my browser. It shows I have an IP address and everything but I can't get any data connection to the outside world unless I turn off wifi. So the wifi icon is on but it's grey instead of the blue like it should be.
I've cleared all my saved networks in my phone, pulled the battery, 4G sim. Only thing I haven't done is reset the phone. Going to test the wifi when I get home.
None of this makes sense why it connects to the APs, gets an IP and I can get internal LAN access but not external. I have other Android, iOS, laptops, etc all working fine.
I have tried doing a search but am unable to find an answer as to where, or if, the icon legend can be found on my phone. I have looked at this description HERE, but what I am seeing is not on this list. This morning my Verizon service went out - it appears to be an area-wide thing because other people on Verizon have no cell service either (yes, I paid my bill!). Now I have a grayed out triangle where the bars normally are with a little blue triangle flashing above it. It may mean roaming, however it doesn't look like what the page shows for roaming, which is a blue R above the network bars. So, is this information in the phone or only in the manual? and, does anyone have a clue as to what that icon means? I would take a screenshot but as I was typing this it went back to the red circle with a slash through it, indicating no service. I keep getting a message that tells me there is no CDMA service located, do I want to connect Global?
On Froyo Wireless works fine 100% of the time, on Gingerbread it randomly drops internet, locks data/internet until wifi is disabled, loses all awareness of networks around it, etc..I have tried resetting my whole network system, changed all security settings, WPA, WPA2, nothing works. Here are some photos of the phone doing it. Want to add that the router is on the other side of the wall, not 5 feet from me. Works 100% in Froyo, but the pictures show what happens in Gingerbread. Yes Wi-Fi never sleep is on, and even if it wasnt it should auto connect when it becomes active again, which it doesnt. the pictures show, you can see wi-fi is on but for some reason dropped connection and no longer detects any wireless networks at all, when there are easily 5-8 around me at all times. All i did was disable then reenable wifi and it detected all networks and connected again though it will not be long until it happens again.
This problem has persisted since day one with this phone, and has been an issue through all software updates. My phone is currently running the latest OTA software update from Verizon: 4.5.605.MB810.Verizon.en.us. The phone will connect to WiFi access points. It never seems to have trouble finding or negotiating a connection to a WiFi network. I can connect to open networks, WPA, WPA2, etc. I can connect to b/g/n no problem.
However, after using the network for a while, it always fails. The connection will suddenly stop working, and apps will start to claim that the network isn't available. The phone continues to think that it is connected to WiFi, but no data will flow. The only way to fix the problem is to disable to WiFi radio and turn it back on. The failure seems to be triggered by a volume of data. If I connect to a network and then don't download much, it seems to last longer (time-wise) than if I immediately start a download.
Different access points seem to trigger the problem sooner than others. I have a business-class HP Procurve 802.11n access point that will lock-up the phone almost immediately. I also have a consumer-grade Linksys 802.11g access point that will work for much longer, but still leads to failure. Suggestions to disable wifi encryption are NOT acceptable. Suggestions to disable wireless-N are NOT acceptable.
I love that Motorola has built in unread counts to certain icons (email, text message, hone, calendar, etc.) but I noticed that there isn't an unread count for the gmail icon. Was this done on purpose? Or am I missing a settings option where I can turn this on?Also, I don't know if the calendar app on Moto phones did this before, but it's a nice touch that the icon changes with the current date.
