Moto X (2014) :: Google Now Prompt / Beep Not Working
Dec 12, 2014
So I just got my new Moto x and when I go to use google now prompt, it comes on but theres no beep. There is no verbal talk back when I need to enter a pin like it use to on my 2013 edition(android 4.4) either. In addition, I notice that while im in vibrate, it will change my sound settings out of vibrate and basically increase the volume for media so when I click around, i hear the audible "click" too. WTF?
THe google now talk back search responses seem to work fine but the volume sort of fades in and higher as it starts to talk back. Basically, the initial beep and voice upon activating google now doesn't work but responses with search or weather, etc. work ok. I made sure my media volume was up and that didn't work....
I cant get past step 4 using "official" motorola directions to clear the cache partition after upgrading to 5.0.
"1. With the phone powered off, press the VOL DOWN KEY for 2-3 seconds then POWER key then release.
2. The device will display different BOOT OPTIONS
3. Use the VOL DOWN Key to SCROLL to Recovery and VOL UP Key to select
Tip: If the device reboots, you may have waited to long to make a selection, you will need to begin the process again.
4. The device will display the Motorola logo and then the Android in distress ( logo with Exclamation mark)
5. Press and hold the VOL UP key for 10-15 seconds. While still holding the VOL UP key tap and release the POWER key
Tip: You can try this step, holding the phone in landscape. If you are stuck on step 6, try a force reboot by pressing the Power key and Vol Down key, and start the process again.
6. The device will display additional menu options (Text will appear in BLUE)
7. Use the VOL DOWN Key to scroll to wipe cache partition and the POWER Key to select this option
8. The device will then perform the partition wipe
9. The device will reboot and start the normal power up sequence
I see that, for certain phones, Google Now has an "always on" option that allows you to activate it even when the screen is off, similar to Moto Voice. This option, however, doesn't seem to be enabled by default for the Moto X (the option doesn't even appear). It would seem a foregone conclusion though that this option could work for the Moto X.
I send group messages for work as well as to the parents of the baseball team that I coach. I have these groups set up in my Google Contacts. Unfortunately groups don't show up on the Moto X contacts. I can't understand why, but they don't. On my Note 4 I can start a text, select the group from my contacts and type my message. It's quick and easy. If I were to do that on the Moto X I would need to select each contact individually. That's ridiculous. Am I missing something? Is there a way to see my contact groups and send a text message to them?
I sent my phone in for warranty and it reset to factory default. I logged into my google account and I don't know how to restore a backup as it was automatically backed up.
I've been using the Google camera app on my phone which I love so far, the one thing I've noticed is that the shutter button taste of a third of the screen and its not see through either. Is there anyway to change this interface like the Motorola camera app where you can take pictures through it through the viewfinder? Honesty love the shutter speed of the Google camera app vs the stock camera app on the phone though.
So we all use a Google Calendar app on her phone at least I do. I have the agenda widget on my home screen and I've noticed it would have to go home but it's constantly loading. For a few seconds at a time. I thought they would have fixed this issue with the last update but it doesn't look so.

Doesn't matter if I use the Google Now launcher to initiate search, or the fixed bar. No matter what, my search goes to a blank page. I can search from the address bar in Chrome or Chrome Beta, just not search.
I just recently updated my Moto x 2014 to lollipop and noticed there is two icons for the photo app in my app drawer. They both bring you to the stock photo app.
"Google Services" is constantly my biggest battery drain. It is consistently 2x more than the next biggest power hungry app "Google Search". These two apps together account for 40% OF MY BATTERY LIFE LOST. I did a factory reset with no impact. The battery screenshots I see here from others never seem to reflect what I am seeing - the screen is always the biggest drain, which I would expect.
My X sees light to moderate use with 2 SOT usually.
So whenever I use hangouts to place a call (to a conference line for example) 3g/4g work fantastically, better than a cellular call. However if I am on wifi the hangouts call audio is constantly speeding up and slowing down, and people complain they cant hear me.
My HTC One M8 allows me to have google contacts as well as a local address book on the phone that never get sent back to google. I have about 1500 contacts with detailed info that I do not want to go back to google.I just got a new 2014 Moto X which immediately upgraded itself to Lollipop and when I go into the contacts app, it wants to load anything imported back UP to google. There doesn't seem to be any local address book. I don't know if this is just a Moto X problem or a general lollipop one? My HTC One M8 does not have lollipop.I need to be able to have some contacts sync into my gmail account and others to not be associated with it.
It seems to be specific to my Moto X and does not occur on my Nexus 5 or Nexus 7. If I have an app updating/installing and turn the screen off, no further action occurs until I turn the screen back on. I actually first noticed this immediately after a factory reset. When trying to update the ~28 apps that were out of date I selected Update and then turned my screen off... After about an hour I turned it back on, and none of the apps had updated. They started updating as soon as I turned the screen on.I have tested this on WiFi and mobile data, and I do have background data enabled and WiFi set to always stay on.
I receive calls to my Google Voice Number in Hangouts (I only have a Data Plan/No Cellular Voice Plan). When an incoming call comes in, it uses the default Hangouts Ringer (which I don't like). However, I can't find anywhere to set the ringtone for Incoming Google Voice Calls ringing in Hangouts.
I have the Moto X 2nd gen, and I have been having several issues with the phone, mainly I repeatedly have a "Google Apps" popup saying that is not responding and asking me to report the issue. I get these error maybe 3-4 times a day and restart my phone when the issues doesn't die down.
Also, my phone stops responding at certain times and it just stutters along.
Is this my phone or should I do a factory reset? Also, will the 5.1 update fix any if these issues, I hoping not to have to restore to factory default.
I have 5 achieved conversations in Google Hangouts on my phone. Whenever I reboot my phone those 5 archived conversation show back up in my current list of Hangouts conversations. I touch and hold the conversation I want to archive hit the archive button and get the message Archiving Hangout, but they still come back after a phone reboot.
So I bought a song from Google play music, and I'm trying to make a custom ringtone out of it and then use Google hangouts. However when I ever I try to set the ringtone for my contact in Google Hangouts, new ringtone doesn't make any sound in the application.. I wanted to work what I can do? I've tried everything ll..

I just updated to lollipop on my european moto x 2014 and then I tried the flashlight toggle, and it was working just fine. However after using the flashlight the camera doesnt work anymore. I just get a error message. Camera has unfortunately stopped. I have even flashed the stock kitkat firmware and it still wasnt working..
I've had my brand new Moto X for exactly 2 weeks, as of yesterday. I tried to swipe open the lock screen just now, the screen went blank, the sensors don't respond to to me trying to access it, and pressing he power button does nothing. It's been on the charger for much of the day today so I know the battery isn't drained.
incoming call screen on my wife moto X14 changed all of a sudden. there is no more swipe to answer, there is only notification on top, u have to swipe right then swipe down to answer.
Chrome, Maps or Gmail, or anything else for that matter will not rotate to landscape mode. Auto-rotation is on. I was at a soccer game did some running around and went to use maps on my phone on the way home and apps were stuck in landscape. No big deal for the Maps app. When I got home all apps were opening in landscape. I powered off the phone and back on and now they will not go to landscape. Does my phone need to be re-calibrated?Phone is brand new. I'm running Lollipop since day one.
I have updated my moto x from KK to LP. All is fine and snappy etc, but I'm not sure if I have turned anything off, because waving my hand over the screen doesn't seem to do anything any more? It was working fine. I have been playing around with the settings to get the phone to my liking - I may of accidentally turned something off, I'm not sure.
I was prompted to update my MotoX yesterday 12/09/15 and wow - what a pain! The home button no longer works to go home and has another completely useless function (Now on Tap?) when it is long held. Might have value for some people but I just want the home button to take me home. I can't find anywhere how to disable or reprogram it.
Also NONE of the external links are working in any of my email programs or Facebook. When I tap on them, most of them open up Chrome but don't actually go to the correct website - Chrome opens to the Google search or the last webpage I was viewing. Copy and paste does work when the website address is there but links from facebook aren't able to be copied.
I have cleared the cache in Recovery mode to no effect. Multiple reboots have not corrected anything. Uninstalling email programs and reinstalling them also did not work.
What a crummy weekend for the Music apps to start crashing - Memorial Day weekend when I'm driving so much. Google Music keeps crashing as soon as I start navigation in Google Maps. I tried Amazon Prime Music too - same issue. So, I'm thinking it's the recently-updated Maps app that isn't multitasking well.
I am not receiving an audio notification of an incoming message when I am on a call. I typically end a call to find important txt and email messages waiting for me in the notification bar. This is a feature that I have had on every non-android phone. My emails and sms apps are set to Priority. Call and message interruptions are turned on.
