IPhone :: Using Facetime On 4 - It Appears With The Contact Phone Number?
May 12, 2012
I am using face time on my iphone 4. However, i am confused because it appears with the contact phone number, so i do not know whether it is free or charging money.
my husband's number even when added into the contacts only appears as a number in sms/imessage and call log. I have tried deleting and adding again as a new contact but still the same issue. With other contacts that I have saved there was no issue only for my husband. He has 2 numbers from different providers here in UAE both numbers have the same issue. I have restored network settings, turned phone on and off.
I happened to exchange my handset , an i phone 5 in the US when i encountered problems with my origibal handset procured from India.I was using a local US number at the time of exchange. Now, that I have returned to India, I see the US phone number that I had been using against Facetime and iMessage.
I can not activate iMessage and FaceTime over PhoneNumber waiting for activation after 24 hours to yesterday i have become a ams with reg-resp. and numbers
My phone used to belong to my mom and I had it unlocked so I could use it overseas. However, her phone number still shows up on the front screen even though I've had 2 different sim cards in it, each with their own number. How do I change it to my current number?
I sync contacts with a corporate Exchange / Outlook account. I can manage contacts on the phone or PC. Any contact who has say a business, home or mobile number and a fax number specified, if I go to the dialer, start typing their name, it does show the contact and a number (no indication of type such as fax or cell) so I tap that choice. Sadly, no, I can't just tell from looking at the number if it is fax or not. The phone dials the fax # which of course is incredibly annoying to my ear and that this dumb phone doesn't know not to try a fax number as the first choice for any contact who has a fax number.
I know I can set the default number per contact but I have hundreds of contacts and to go through each one to see if they have a fax and change it would really suck. Is there seriously no way to tell the phone not to use fax as first choice by default?
Since Apple released iMessage my friend and I have been iMessaging. As of yesterday, I can still send my friend iMessages as usual, but she can only send iMessages to my email (I have "Receive at" set to my phone number and email, Caller ID set to my phone number). If she tries to send an iMessage to my phone number, as she did before, it will only send as a Text. All of my other iPhone contacts can still send iMessages to my phone number. We've each tried rebooting and switching iMessage on and off (we both have iPhone 4, IOS 5.1.1) without any luck. I realise that iMessage is still technically working with her sending to my email, but we just don't understand why sending to my phone number has suddenly stopped working.
how do you send a phone number that's not in your contact list to someone through a text message? I was looking for an option to send a phone number in my recent calls, but not in my contact list, to someone through a text message and i couldn't find one.
When i add a new contact, or when I edit an existing contact. It appears in the top of the contact list. Knowing the the contact name does not start with letter A, and it appears above contacts with letter A.
Does anyone know if there is a way to add a contact number from the phone book when composing a text message on the c2 o2? Usually Nokia's have an option which allows you to "insert contact"
I have reecently changed from the 8900 to the 9700. I transfered my contact list but now when a contact rings their name doesn't appear but the number only as all the numbers are prefixed with +61 (I am in Australia) whereas from the contact list the numbers all begin with a zero. (So the number dialling in doesn't match with any numbers stored in the contact list). I didn't have that problem with 8900.
I have one phone number and I want to use it but I open my information in contact list there a another phone number like 5552161470. How can I get rid of that.
Is it possible to display an alternate contact phone number on the lock screen? If I lost my phone, a person who found it may be nice enough to call me at the alternate phone number so they could return the phone to me.
Just got my iphone 4 not too long ago and missed out on the 1-888-FACETIME number, wondering if anyone would be willing to test it out with me. I'm just a normal 25 year old medical student. Would prefer a good looking girl but if anyone wants to Id like to try it out.
Is there a way to add a pause or wait to a phone number in the contact list? The purpose would be to dial an extension number of enter a PIN for a calling card. This is easily done in MOTO phones, several brands of PDAs and I believe, Nokia phones.
Using iPhone 4S with IOS 5.1. On some contacts there is a "*" ("star") after one of the phone numbers. What is the meaning? Have not found any explanation in the User's Guide for IOS 5.1.

I'm having bigtime problems with my facetime and iMessage.. First of all, I got my iPhone 4s unlocked through AT&T, but now I'm stuck with my old AT&T number.. It's my old number, under the "caller ID" in facetime and in iMessage, and it won't allow me to change it...So now I can't recieve any facetime calls and any imessages....
This has been a problem posted by several people. Below I have a list of solutions that other people have posted and tried. While these solutions have worked for other people, they have not worked for me. When I moved abroad, I got a new SIM card and phone number. However, the number displayed under Facetime and iMessage is still my AT&T number and not my new, local phone number. I can send and receive Facetime & iMessage through my Apple ID, but not through my phone number. When I had originally put the SIM card in, the number under Settings > Phone said "Unknown" and I was able to edit it to be my new number. That did not change the number listed under Facetime.
Solutions which have NOT worked (some of these have worked for other people, so if you are also having this issue, you can try these solutions as well):Restoring phone (from backup, and restoring as a new phone; when I restore phone as a new phone, the old number disappears but the new number does not replace it)Clearing all settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings)Clearing network settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings)Power cycling (Hold the circle button and the power button down together until the phone turns itself off. Also have tried by first turning off Facetime & iMessage before the power cycle.)Turning Facetime & iMessage off, then back on (Settings > Facetime and Settings > Message. Also have tried logging out of Facetime before turning it off.)Turning off Date & Time > Set Automatically and then turning it back on?
