Staying at a hotel outside the country my plan is in. Hotel has great wifi, so I've been iMessaging a lot. It stopped working last night, so I did what I normally do when this happens: turned iMessages off and then back on. But now it's stuck on "waiting for activation."
Restarted, did the DNS trick, let it sit for 8 hours. Still "waiting," no activation error message.
I even tried turning airplane mode off, but oddly, I can't connect to a cell network, despite being in a major city.

Mar 31, 2012I recently got a new iPhone 4. I have had problems with my iMessage since i first got it. Now my iMessage will only work when there is a wifi network and I can't revieve any texts that are sent from other iPhones (not using wifi) through their own iMessage. They all use their iMessage through their 3G network and mine doesnt seem to be working. At the moment my iMessage will not activate, it seems to be one thing after another, what can I do to make it so that I can use it through my 3G network?

Jun 3, 2014When I had ios 6 my imessage was working fine despite me reading complaints then I updated to ios 7 and it stopped working I have tried all the tips and tricks posted on the web it'll work maximum for a day and stop. I will be starting to type out the message as imessage then it's sent as a text because at that split second it decided to stop working again. Â

Jun 7, 2012I cannot send or receive texts at home because there is insufficient service at my house so I use iMessage over wifi. The issue is that when I am on wifi and out of service the phone will not send iMessages or texts over wifi unless the phone is in Airplane mode. Does anyone know how to make wifi the default iMessage so that I can send iMessages over wifi without going to Airplane mode? It tries to send them but it acts as if there is no service when I have full wifi and as soon as I switch to Airplane mode and keep wifi connected, all messages send fine.

Apr 19, 2012My wife is on a school trip to the US. Meanwhile, I am at home in Canada. I am texting her, but I found it odd she never replies and vice versa. So, she discovered that her iPhone (latest iOS 5 release) keeps trying to send the message as an iMessage. It is not reverting to SMS after a given time, as it should and as I have seen it do before. I have tried it now also and my wife only receives my messages when she has a wifi connection (she does not have data roaming enabled). It seems like my iPhone too continously tries to send the message as an iMessage and it does not switch to SMS after a certain timeout time. The message that the iPhone continously tries to send as an iMessage never fails, however the status does not change until the next time my wife is in wifi coverage and the message is delivered.

Apr 7, 2012i have noticed that after switching to ios 5.1 my phone has been acting funny. for example: when i am messaging other iphone users with iMessage, it keeps switching from iMessage to regular text every 2 or 3 messages. at first i thought it was the other person since i am normally within my works wifi network and at my home wifi network, but it seems that this problem only occurs to other people when imessaging with me and not with anyone else. and this problem occurs to me while imessaging everyone, so i have come to the conclusion that the problem must be my phone. i have noticed this problem to occur since updating to ios 5.1. has anyone else experienced this problem? what can i do? i am 2 steps shy of reinstalling my phone.

Mar 21, 2012I have an 4 and an iPad. I recently moved to Germany and do not have cell service. A friend mentioned iMessage to me, and I immediately began using it. However, on my iPhone, when I try to message someone new; I can't. They have to eniciate the conversation with me. And now when I try to respond to some people I already have an iMessage with it changes from blue to green for SMS, which I obviously cannot do without service. My friend suggested turning iMessage off and then back on. Now it says waiting for activation. Why? My ipad works fine.
