IPhone :: 3G On IOS4 / Stuck With Numeric Signal Indicators From Old IOS3 JB
Aug 23, 2010I jailbroke my 3G using blackra1n on iOS3 and installed (IIRC BossPrefs although I could be mistaken)I used this to turn on numeric signal strength indicators (for mobile signal and wifi)I then decided to just upgrade straight to official iOS4 when it came out, thinking it would just overwrite any customisations I'd made.However, the signal strength indicators now flick between the official icons and numerical representations.I can only assume the prefs software (if it was Bossprefs) did something to the particular icons, and the official restore only restored some of them?
I've since re jailbroke iOS4 with redsn0w and found out that the prefs program I used is not compatible (it just starts to load then quits). I tried installing SBSettings and enabling and disabling numerical signal strength indicators in that, but it's to no avail.

Would I be better off doing a backup of my iOS4, restoring my iPhone to iPhone OS 3 and then going back to the official iOS4 or do you think we will be able to straight from the GM to the official version of iOS 4. Or is the iOS4 GM identical to the official iOS 4 release?

When i go to update it in itunes, it asks for me to backup my data, and i want to then the bar for backing up comes up.really slowly. Then suddenly it shoots to like 99%, then a few minutes and it says that it cannot connect to the server and then the backup is aborted.What should i do?

Jun 30, 2010I have a 32G running V. 3.0 and I want upgrade to IOS 4.
(1) Can I go from 3.0 straight to 4?
(2) I have read serveral post and in these post I have read were they upgraded and they lost their pictures and data. In the same post I read were another person upgraded and did not lose any pictures or data. I also read on Apple's web site about upgrading and no place did I read any warning about losing any information.
Another thing I find strange is that these poster's are upgrading the same apple phone but yet they are doing different procedures. At the present my phone works great with no problems, I just don't want screw it up!

Jun 21, 2010I know when you upgrade to iOS4 it updates the carrier file to AT&T 7.0. Being on 7.0 doesn't allow me to input my own Cellular Data Network settings. Is there another IPCC for at&t that will work on iOS4 and allow me to input my own cellular data network settings? Something to like the pictures I've posted.

May 5, 2012It has been working steadily for over 6 hours and still not done, and phone only about half full of data/songs etc. 16g 3G, MacMini OSX 10.6.8. I wanted to simply start using my newer mac for backups and whatever, but I can't believe it is taking so long to finish the initial backup on this computer. Is it possible there is a larger problem here? At the "speed" with which the process is occurring, it looks like I will have to leave the phone hooked up all night long just to complete the backup.
The other part of this is that I wanted to upgrade to iOS 4.2, but before I upgraded I needed to sync and backup the phone according to the messages that came up on screen when I connected the phone.
By the time I see any responses it will likely be done, but I'm worried that the extreme time involved is an indication of a bigger issue of unknown nature. And, I'm worried that subsequent backups may be equally time consuming, especially if there is a problem with the phone.
Is this "normal" for a first backup on a new(er) computer?
(In case it has any bearing, iTunes 10.) I'm not syncing music or videos, just the address book/contacts and calendars.

Jul 1, 2010I was wondering if anyone else is getting this bug. My iPhone gets into a state where in the Photos app, I am unable to change the screen orientation to landscape. This is only in the Photos app - Safari continues to work just fine on this front.
The only way I have found to resolve the issue is the restart the phone, and then it works again.
This is not the first bug I've found in Photos in iOS4/iPhone 4 the library can be slow to update, sometimes requiring me to close and reopen the app.
Anyone else getting this?

Aug 14, 2010My girlfriend has an EVO 4G and after playing with it I made a list of things that I admire about Android phones.
1) The ability to work with Google Docs
2) Notification system
3) Speech to text in the keyboard
4) Weather widget
Then it hit me that most of the time, if I thought of it, there is a solution somewhere. For 1) Last night I found an app called NoteMaster that lets me take notes in Google Docs and the webapp lets you edit spreadsheets. That's most of my uses for Google Docs taken care of. I haven't thought of or found a solution for 2 or 3 yet, but if anyone knows of a fix let me know. I have an idea for 4, but I haven't been able to find it. If you could change your background so that it displayed the weather for the next 24 hours, then when you turned on your phone from sleep mode you'd have a fast way of getting the weather. Even better if you could get to sync with and display a todo list. I saw a picture of a weather app that had a background behind the weather. Couldn't find the name of it, but that would also be a nice touch.And I don't want to jail break.
