View 16 Replies View RelatedI have a Motorola RAZR international GSM version (XT910). It is an unlocked phone without any contract or carrier branding.
I seem to have issues whenever i try using my phone as a WiFi Hotspot. When the Hotspot is turned on the data connection drops. I have tried this while using the device as a hotspot for my iPad and/or my laptop. I'm able to browse normally when i'm directly browsing on the phone. But the moment i begin to use the phone as a WiFi Hotspot i see the data connection immediately getting terminated. Even the data toggle widget i have on my home screen gets toggled off automatically. It comes back up once the device i tether from stops trying to access the hotspot.
This is not a carrier limitation. I tried using the same SIM Card on 2 other unlocked phones (Xperia X10i and Galaxy S2) and they both tether just fine. I also contacted my carrier and had the network and APN settings reset while using the RAZR. That didn't seem to solve the issue either. I have tried every solution that i know of. I have even reset the phone to factory settings a couple of times. But nothing seems to work. There are no Smart Actions setup that conflict with the data connection. I'm totally clueless about what is causing this issue.
It is really frustrating to know that i am able to tether even on a two year old Sony Ericsson Xperia X10i that's running Android 2.3.3 but not on the brand new RAZR for which i had to pay around $700.

the xoom is meant to be capable of doing 720p at 30fps. This is so not the case. If you look at the playback the recording looses frames and gitters badly. I would say it is more around 15-20fps on average. also the video doesnt seem sharp at all as if the auto focus doesnt work well or is off. but the still camera focuses fine. Will motorola be addressing this issue in the ics update or are they intending on fixing this issue at all. If the camera is truely capable of this frame rate where is the bottle neck? transferring to flash memeory? can motorola make an auto focus slide control on screen selecting in options to turn on and off from manual to auto fofus. this would be good in camera mode. as you can see from the video frame rate drop and video blur. not 30fps..

I have a child off to college pretty soon who uses skype video regularly with her friends and I will assume with me also. I'm thinking if you're in a work environment where you can't attach wifi routers to the network, could I bring in an old wifi router and just plug in the power? Then anyone with an iPhone4 could connect to this network just for Facetime (and perhaps stuff like filesharing, printersharing, etc).

Then I pulled the battery out, no luck there. Finally a read that shutting the bluetooth off can fix the problem. Well, yes that does work. But I actually use my bluetooth regularly with my wifi.So I guess my question is, is there any way to remedy this?It started happening out of the blue yesterday. No recent updates, no new have have been downloaded recently. The only thing I did was turn my mobile data off. It seems like the issue started once I turned the mobile data back on. I literally drop EVERY WiFi call after about 5-7 minutes. I get an error message "WiFi Signal Lost". I would normally just blame the WiFi network I'm on, but it does it on multiple totally different networks (home, work, Burger King, etc...). And I know for sure both home and work networks are very stable and fast. Not sure what the issue is. If I go and view the network details of the network I'm on, the signal strength is typically between -40 and -75 dBm. While in UMA mode, the phone will actually go out of UMA mode sometimes for no apparent reason, and won't go back into UMA mode until after a few minutes. The worst part is that the Home screen says I'm still connected to the WiFi network, but the top right corner doesn't say UMA! It says 3G! And YES, my Mobile Network Mode is set to "WiFi Preferred". Even if I set it to WiFi Only, the top of the Home screen says I'm connected to the WiFi network, but the top right corner says OFF and the phone just goes dead!!
I use this phone for work and it needs to be reliable. Is my above WiFi Calling experience normal?? If not, does anybody know anything I can try? Are there some apps that conflict the with operation of the phone portion at all? I'm back to using the default theme now and it's still doing it... Should I try doing a factory reset? Here are the apps I can think of that I have installed:

If I'm scrolling through a page, the pointer will all of a sudden stop and become completely unresponsive for a few seconds. Then resumes like nothing happened. And, if I'm typing a long text or email and it does this total-lock up, I'll look up from the keyboard and see that none of my keystrokes were being echo'd onto the screen while it was locked up. But then it starts working again like nothing happened. BUT The strange thing is that if I'm typing while it's locked up, it doesn't appear to a buffer any of my keystrokes! (as opposed to on my old BB 8330: sometimes when it got bogged down because I had too much stuff running in the background, the keystrokes being echo'ed to the screen would sometimes slow down and lag behind my typing.... but it always kept track of what I typed and would eventually catch up.) HOWEVER, when my 9780 completely locks up like I mentioned above, it doesn't seem to recognize that I typed anything while it was locked up. when it "snaps out of it" and comes back to life, none of the keystrokes I typed while it was locked up are echo'ed onto the screen. I'm wondering if it's during these complete lockups that I'm dropping calls?

What I mean by freezing is webpage might stop loading half way through or a video might stop streaming and just freezes. To get the WiFi to work again I have to turn WiFi off and then back on again. I have reset the phone and have tried another nexus 5, and still have the same issue. All of the other devices that I have (several computers, tablets, iPhones, an s4, etc) work fine. I have 3 Fritz! box routers that all have the same SSID, password, etc. I am using Verizon Fios.
