View 2 RepliesMy husband and I both have the iPhone 3GS. My husband's phone however will count on the phones data usage 20mb over night while it is charging and on our wifi. it is counting this towards his 3g usage and not wifi. We have already had APPLE reset everything at the store. it is still doing it. so he has to turn off all cellualar data usage at night or it keeps racking up the usage even though it is on our wifi. I plug my phone in at night as well and mine is not doing this

It seems that my iPhone 4 has decided that it wants to randomly switch of iMessage and Factime at random points during the day. This has only happened since the os 5.0.1 upgrade! I have not reset it because i have heard that this does not work! I have tried just using my phone number, then just my apple id account, then both together on the settings for both, but it is still randomly switching off.

Question: I've used my iPhone exclusively on wifi so far. Yet, I have around 200 kB of data used under my usage details. I haven't even used the phone while on 3G yet.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a very limited data plan (100mb/month) and I need to be able to identify what apps or processes are consuming data in my iPhone. How can I do this?I have already reviews all my accounts and turned Push off, although that didn't significantly reduce data usage. Either way, the accounts are responsible for, AT MOST, 2 or 3mb/day considering new emails/new calendar stuff and whatever. I have a lot of Apps too, but I'm always worried to keep every "automatic sync" stuff OFF. I use an application called DataMan Pro to track usage data and keep my data consumption under control. But it does not tell me WHERE the consumption came from. Yesterday I went to check DataMan for my usage and I was surprised to find 9MB of usage and I did NOTHING yesterday, didn't use any apps like facebook, didn't check my emails, anything. Where did that come from?

Why am I getting charged cell data usage when I'm on wifi

I've noticed some strange behavior with my iPhone 4 where my account shows 3G usage at a time when I am certain I am on wi-fi. For example, on June 22, 2012 at 7:17AM EDT, I was at home, getting ready to go to work. I am 100% certain my phone was on wi-fi at the time. But, my AT&T usage shows over 460MB of data over 3G. I've read about turning off cellular data and location services, but that kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it? Why heavy 3G data usage seen while on wi-fi, and if so, how to track down what was causing it?

This is a really silly question. It used to be easy to find your Wifi and network usage under settings, but I can not find them anymore. Usage now has been taken over by iCloud etc. and about is too top level. The usage used to be along side the up-time since last boot.

I was just wondering, when viewing the data usage on the ATT app, or their website, it the usage showing WiFi and 3G, or simply 3G? If it is showing both, is there a way to separate the two to view each individually?

I would like to conserve my data allotment by using wifi whenever I can.Â
Also, would be great to be able to talk or text over wifi rather than using up my minutes.Â
Is there a way I can set up my iPhone 4s to automatically switch when it detects a strong wifi signal?

I'm using a iPhone6 with iOS8.1.1. If I walk out of a wifi environment while using the phone, I will lose data connection even though it connects to the local 3G/LTE networks. I can still receive calls/sms but no data. It will continue to stay this way unless I put it in airplane mode and out again to reestablish connections. I have done a Network Reset but problem still persist. Why is it not a seamless transfer between wifi/LTE networks?

I set up my Yahoo mail account on the native mail app on my iPhone 5 using my home wi-fi network. Everything works well. But when i switch wi-fi networks, it can't retrieve my emails. This happened when I'm on my office's network. I do not use cellular data (3G nor LTE). I'm strictly a wi-fi person, either at home, in the office or some coffee shop, restaurant or mall.Â
I forgot the error message, it said "can't connect to server".

I recently just purchased a blackberry curve 8520 with Fido. My phone is connected to my wifi at home, but I want to make sure that I am strictly using wifi NOT data (because I do not have a data plan). I noticed that in a public wifi network, a red asterisk appears on the WiFi symbol on the top right hand corner of the phone. Like this :( the WiFi symbol is circled to demonstrate what I mean when I say WiFi symbol and the asterisk appeared like so)However on my home network , though it says it is connected, the asterick does not appear. As you can see it says "Fido-peanut butter" ( my router name) meaning yes, I am "connected".... BUT without the red asterisk on the wifi symbol ( with my home WiFi) Does this mean I am not properly connected? I called Fido and the CSR said she thinks it has something to do with login password in the public WiFi, but she is not certain.
The problem seems to be this: When I go to "Mobile Network Options" to turn "data services" OFF( to make sure I am only using wifi and no data), the connection fails and I get this message:When I turn it ON, I am able to connect. For "Connection Preference": what setting should I set it to if I do not want to use any data BUT WIFI? Yes, the obvious answer would be to choose "WI-Fi" only, but this means I will not be able to call/text because my mobile connection will be turned off. So, how can I verify that I am really only using wifi and not data when both the data service is ON and my wifi is "connected"?This is a checklist of what I have done:
1) HOTSPOT USER - check.
2) insterted pin provided by the phone into my dlink router (via online)
3)tried the push button setup
4)rebooted my router/modem
5)there is a checkmark beside WiFi connection:
It would seem like I am connected to Wifi, but again, to reiterate I would like to ask if WiFi is the ONLY thing I am using and not Data.
I want to add my son on my AT&T plan and put a chip in th 9810 torch that I no longer use. This phone was an outright purchase with no contract. When he is home or around any wifi hotspots, let him surf and stream Pandora to his hearts content. When not in range of wifi I want to prohibit all data access other than the unlimited text and phone. Is this possible? I've seen posts about setting the browser options to use wifi but the talk has been when wifi is no longer available it switches to the BB data. This is what I'm trying to prevent.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn my Xperia z2 battery usage is showing wifi on but i did not turned it on at any time.
I dont know what is happening in the software but it is annoying to see that wifi is turned on at all the time.
I'm wondering if using Wifi (while cell data turned on) uses more than cell data (with wifi off) alone.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFormer OG user. Ran WIFI at home 24x7. Typically, wifi averaged about 2-3% of battery drain.
Got a Bionic this week, running Airplane mode at home , wifi on, disabled sleep policy. Look at these stats:
Wifi traffic monitor app that will show you how much data you have used at any certain time, per period (day/month/etc) but also grouped by network ssid? Like for example I'm running a personal hotspot (portable 3g router - say ssid TEST) that has a certain ammount of data available per month, and I want to see on my phone for example, how much data I have used on that particular network (ssid TEST).
I found some apps that show monthly and daily wifi usage, but it's combined for all wifi networks you connect to. I am looking for an app that shows usage per wifi network.
I've been having problems with my battery monitor constantly showing wifi usage while it's never even used on my phone. There will then be sporadic times where it will show that wifi is "off" and then kick back in.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy Moto X would automatically switch over to WIFI from 4Glte when a known connection was closeby (ie when Im at home). Ive only had this G3 a few days.
Is there a setting I can adjust to auto-switch & disable data? For now, i have to go into my notification bar and click over and then confirm even...and of course sometimes I forget to do that and I incure data charges when my 5ghz N signal is standing idly by.
Sine Tuesday night when my battery died, the Wifi on my device doesnt work (I left the app world open which ran it down). Whenever I switch the wifi on, it says that it is unable to turn the wifi on. I left the battery out for half an hour on THursday night which seems to have worked for a while, but the problem has manifested itself again. I have done a security wipe and re-installed the latest software.I somehow dont think that it's hardware related otherwise it wouldnt work, would it? My blackberry maps also dont work and it says that the GPS is unavailable. Can it have something to do with the Wifi?We have 3G where I live most of the time, but the Wifi is just so much faster using my broadband connection at home. I contacted bb support and have not received any assistance. My carrier seems to think that it's hardware related, but I dont think so.
