Earlier when I locked my iPhone the button got jammed, is there a way I can get it out myself (would it be worth trying to stick a small wire or pin underneath to un jam it?) or should I wait until have time to go to an apple store and get them to repair it?

Today (April 18th) I noticed that the lock button isn't working and unfortunately I did not buy the apple care plan or any type of insurance on it. Is there anything I can do to get the issue fixed? My iPhone 4's sleep/lock button is stuck in. (From wear and tear) It's out of warrantee so apple won't fix it, a genius did tell me to replace the button, so i ordered the parts from I-fixit and followed their guide. (http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing-iPhone-4-Power-Lock-Button/4332/1) After reassembly the new button is still stuck in! What am i missing here? is there a part that needs to be fixed other than the actual button?

This doesnt happen every time i use the home button but it is happening more and more frequently. It started happening about a month before the iphone warranty ran out and i didnt think much of it.
