IPhone :: Multitasking On IOS4 Was Designed Wrong?
Aug 11, 2010
i had multitasking before ios4, i used backgrounder.when ios4 came out i unjailbroke because steve told us all how much more efficient his multitasking was. my main problem is that now when i close an app, it doesn't actually close. yes i know this is so i can multitask, but why do i want to multitask every single app i open! i end up with loads of apps "open" and my phone runs slow, every few days i notice the slow, either when an app tells me i am running out of memory, or when i unlock my phone it takes a bit longer to load the unlock screen.i then have to close all my apps which usually freezes for a few seconds while closing them all.now i can just about manage this, but my mum and dad (both owners of iphones) and happy with apples usual simple approach find it a little complicated when and how to close the apps that they have opened (i just tell them when it gets slow, restart it).
solution?:
backgrounder i have to say, worked better.when i clicked home, my app closed (gone! no memory), and lets say i was in trails and wanted to switch to my music, i just held the home button and that's it, backgrounding was activated, and only trails was taking up my memory, not some game from 2 days ago, or Internet, or the odd utility app, etc. anyone else either have this problem, or think that apple should update their multitasking feature.
when i doublepress the home button and the multitasking drawer opens up, it appears to be empty. i can tell this is a problem because when i use sbsettings and check the running processes, i see many apps are still running. at the very least i should see ipod controls in the drawer.this wasnt always the case, i know that right when i finished jailbreaking (before i synced all my apps over itunes) i did see ipod controls and sms in the drawer (those were the only 2 apps i tried before doing that initial sync). i then synced over any apps i had but failed to install anything that was from installous (depending on appsync). that was expected. i think (not sure really) that when the official apps loaded i was still able to have apps appear in the multitasking drawer. i think installed aptbackup from cydia and tried to restore all. i manually chose installous and appsync 4.0 from cydia because i noticed that they didnt install after the restore all. i then synced again with itunes. now i got all my installous apps back on the phone. this is when i checked the multitasking drawer again and i didnt have any icons! so i am going to assume its one of the cydia packages thats giving me this issue. i was hoping someone here might have a clue as to which package might cause this. i got a list of all my packages i am sharing below: code: apr-lib apt apt7 apt7-key apt7-lib apt7-ssl backgrounder base bash berkeleydb bigboss bzip2 com.bigboss.aptbackup com.chrissoftware.whatsnext com.ericasadun.utilities com.hackulo.us.installous com.hackulo.us.sourcegui com.planet-iphones.drakefindyourlove com.saurik.privacy com.seankovacs.gvmobile com.theme.lush com.xsellize.updatr com.zdziarski.nesapp coreutils coreutils-bin curl cydia cydia-sources darwintools diffutils diskdev-cmds dpkg essential eu.heinelt.ifile expat file-cmds file2mail findutils firmware firmware-sbin gawk gnupg grep gsc.accelerometer gsc.accessibility gsc.all-features gsc.app-store gsc.application-installation gsc.armv6 gsc.armv7 gsc.auto-focus-camera gsc.bluetooth gsc.cellular-data gsc.contains-cellular-radio gsc.encode-aac gsc.encrypted-data-partition gsc.fcc-logos-via-software gsc.gas-gauge-battery gsc.gps gsc.h264-encoder gsc.hiccough-interval gsc.homescreen-wallpaper gsc.hw-encode-snapshots gsc.international-settings gsc.io-surface-backed-images gsc.launch-applications-while-animating gsc.load-thumbnails-while-scrolling gsc.location-services gsc.magnetometer gsc.microphone gsc.mms gsc.multitasking gsc.music-store gsc.nike-ipod gsc.not-green-tea gsc.opengles-1 gsc.opengles-2 gsc.peer-peer gsc.proximity-sensor gsc.ringer-switch gsc.sms gsc.stand-alone-contacts gsc.still-camera gsc.telephony gsc.telephony-maximum-generation gsc.tv-out-crossfade gsc.unified-ipod gsc.video-camera gsc.voice-control gsc.voip gsc.volume-buttons gsc.wifi gsc.Internet gsc.Internet-plugin gzip ispazio.net jp.ashikase.kirikae libactivator libffi libhide libxml2 libxml2-lib lzma mobilesubstrate mobileterminal modmyifone ncurses net.scott-wallace.iphone.appbackup network-cmds odcctools openssh openssl p7zip pam pam-modules pcre pincrush preferenceloader profile.d pyobjc python readline saurik sbsettings sbsettingstoggles sed setuptools shell-cmds sqlite3 sqlite3-lib system-cmds tar uicaboodle.py uikittools ultrasn0w unrar unzip us.hackulo.appsync31 us.hackulo.appsync40 us.hackulo.security uuid winterboard yellowsn0w.com zip zodttd edit: i just noticed that the package for appsync31 looks like its still installed which is probably a bad thing. when i go through cydia it is not installed, this is the output of dpkg so i trust that this is accurate. any idea of how to remove that package without cydia?
edit 2: now i'm not really sure what is going on with that package, i am trying to use dpkg to remove it but this is what i get when i try to find out the status of that package
I am not sure this is the right place to ask on GM iOS4, I would like to upgrade Gold Master iOS4 to mine 3GS right now and when it released the official firmware for public on 21st June, would I have any problem to upgrade from GM version?
Was just wondering what the best way to upgrade from the iOS4 GM to the official iOS4 release. Would I be better off doing a backup of my iOS4, restoring my iPhone to iPhone OS 3 and then going back to the official iOS4 or do you think we will be able to straight from the GM to the official version of iOS 4. Or is the iOS4 GM identical to the official iOS 4 release?
I just got off the phone after trying to trouble shoot a VZ Navigator issue, and the Blackberry support person told me that the Blackberry was only designed to hold 1000 contacts (more if a contact has multiple entries). Has anyone heard of this? Only 1000 contacts? Really? Or is this just BS?
My Navigator issue was that when my user clicked on "Contacts" inside the Navigator software, it takes about 1 minute 45 seconds to pull up his contacts. The Verizon rep said that's more than likley because it's polling our BES server for any changes and besides, the BB isn't designed to hold more than 1000 contacts.
Will iTunes know that the official release is newer than the gold master release? I assume its not out yet as iTunes keeps saying "4.0 is the latest release" So what will happen when its out?
So I just bought that Eliminate:Gun Range app that I thought was supposed to be made for iOS4 so I tested it and hit the home button in mid game and then when i double click the home button and go back to the game, it starts it from the beginning menu again. I thought the games were just supposed to pause and we can go back to where we left off.
I wish i could disable multitasking, I really do not care for it placeholding where i was in an app. In several apps it is more annoying than it is helpful in others. Is there anyway to disable? Will this be a "mod" that jailbreaking could disable?
I am updated to OS 4.0, Which I LOVE, but the apps like pandora and last fm that I really want multitasking for do not work? Anyone else ran into this? Is there a fix for this yet?
after upgrading to ios4 on my iphone then JB & unlock...my multitasking stopped working. Everything was working great. I was able to listen to music and use safari or send sms at the same time. But now when i listen to music and try something else it quits the music before opening something else.
is it necessary to remove apps from the multitasking dock? that docks seems to contain every app i open.. im wondering if anyone knows if it has an impact on battery life
I was lead to believe, from scouring these forums, that double tapping the home button will give a list of recent apps.if I open a multitasking app like the new eBay app (updated today) then close it using the home key and then reopen it it's righ where it left off as it should be.Now if I double tap hold down eBay and delete it from the list the next time I open eBay it opens from scratch.
So the list in the double tap screen is not a list of recent apps but a task manager to what is currently multitasking. For those apps that start from scratch just don't have the multitasking programmer into them.
One of the many things I like about my iPhone compared to my Motorola Q is that fact that when I close an app it really closes. Now with multitasking, all apps stay open even when I hit the Home button to close them. Now I have to double click the Home button and hold down an app for the wiggle sensation and individually close all the apps that should closed automatically.
There needs to be a feature that allows Close All or double clicking the Home button from within the app hard closes the app.I know it is just a couple extra steps but it feel counter intuitive.
So I feel like when I have a lot of open Apps, I'm unnecessarily using battery life. I then have to close all open Apps individually. Is there any way to kill all open Apps with one punch? Also, are open Apps draining battery life in the background?
Almost every important utility app has been upgraded for multitasking, but only 2 games (Peggle and Defender Chronicles)This is surprising, as I have a lot of EA and Gameloft games, and you think they would be on top of this, especially as people spend more time per period in a game than they are in a utility app. Then again, a lot of game developers have moved on to bigger and better things.
Are there any reliable apps for allowing background running of apps on a 3gs 3.1.3 jailbroken with spirit? I've seen a couple mentioned via google but they seemed to have disasterous concequenses for some.
I've noticed a few times that when attempting to launch the multitasking feature it has blacked out my screen and started a loading screen similar to the power off screen only to have the phone come back on and need to be unlocked again. As a temporary fix I have found switching the phone on and off fixes it, but its happened a about 3 times over the past two months.
my iPhone 6 plus around a month ago, and this has been a recurring problem since the beginning. When I close apps from multitasking, I often get a split second where my entire screen turns blue and then goes back to normal. I only ask because I've done my fair share of searching on various sites to find no one with similar problems.Â
It should be noted that the issue only seems to occur when closing apps with high memory usage (Madden Mobile, True Skate, Vain Glory) and it occurs more frequently for some apps than for others.Â
I was super satisfied w battery life of my new iPhone 4 the first two days and until it ran down to 1%. After that I think it decrease too much and almost 1% per minute when surfing. But one thing I might be wrong is killing apps in the multitasking menu. Will that increase or decrease battery life? I am thinking maybe it will decrease rather since it is more of an effort to reload the program then having it idle in memory. Am I wrong and what else could affect battery life? I have fixed usual suspects, brightness, location services and push services.
Ive got 5530 from January this year. Recently I updated my phone via the nokia updater. In fisrt 2 days it was ok, but now i see a BIG lag when multitasking(when i turn some music the menus LAG as hell) and a small lag when singletasking (kinetic scrolling). The phone has 2 installed games and skype, i dont think its because overload.
i'm not sure if this a black and white yes/no question, but i'm trying to understand how the xoom handles switching between programs. for example, if i'm buffering a video clip on Internet, it appears that i cannot switch to any other program without interrupting the buffering. however, with certain games, i can switch to another program (email for example) and back to the game without loosing my place. are there certain rules that the xoom uses for switching between programs? does it perform differently between using the home icon versus the quick launch icons on the task bar? is multitasking function specific - meaning wifi or 3g/4g is always interrupted? is it program specific?
My E5 is shut itself down after using Opera Web + music + Palringo. I can't turn it on after, I need to wait for about 4 hours or more before starting it. It as soft resetted alone but how can I accelerate the process if I can't even turn it back on !
The back button gets less responsive the longer I play an audio file. A lot of times it goes to multitasking instead. Other than that the Back button works great.Lumia 900 here
Why is it that nokia S40 doesn't support multitasking?I cant run any application on the background on my Nokia asha 303,i cant open more than one application, this is bad.
I am having problems with my Xoom wifi skipping while I am multitasking. I notice it most while browsing. This is no surprise as using the browser is cpu intensive, but I have noticed it other times as well. I thought it might be the default music player, but once they fixed the Pandora force close issue on the Xoom wifi I noticed the same problem with Pandora.
I've been trying to listen to an Internet radio in one tab and reading newspapers in another tab to no avail. This happen in the Chrome browser as well as in the Dolphin HD (latest version). Only one tab is on and the other goes off in the background. Desktops have no problem dealing with this kind of multitasking. Is there a way to make the Xoom support tab multitasking?
Well I have been waiting for the longest time for someone to post a similar issue but I haven't seem to find it.Whenever I play music on my phone and then begin to do other things on my phone, mainly respond to text or email, my phone's screen freezes.I am able to use the hard keys on the phone though so I am able to back out of wherever it froze. The only way to resolve the issue is to do a battery pull and it is frankly making me not use my phone for music purposes even though it is extremely convenient. I am personally thinking it has something to do with the keyboard but am not sure. This issue only happens with music and it includes the built in media player as well as programs like Pandora. When I play videos, my phone doesn't freeze, but also the videos don't play in the background.
I'm on stock device and I thought my device in multitasking view had a Google search at the top right? It seems to have gone away. Am I correct it's usually there right? Screencap shown..
