I am restoring my new I phone 4S to the back up of my old phone and have a message on the phone screen saying "Restore in Progress" nothing else seems to be happening and it has been like this for over an hour. There are only about a dozen apps, 50 or so photos and messages and a few notes.

My 16GB 3GS is only about half full. Yet my phone has been connected here for 30+ minutes trying to sync and backup. I actually stopped the backup process with only about 10% on the progress bar after sitting there at 10% for at least 5+ minutes. Now it's continuing on with the sync process. You would think with USB 2.0 it would go faster than this. I also don't understand why it's having to update 157 songs in one of my playlists when those songs have not changed and were already on the phone.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI started a backup of my N5800 over an hour ago. It finished "user files from phone memory", contacts, calendar, notes, messages, bookmarks in about 10 minutes. Then it started on "phone model-specific backup" (at 50% of the big progress bar). And hasn't progressed a pixel since then.I got fed up with watching "do not use or disconnect the phone during the operating", so I clicked "cancel". Then it asks me if I really want to cancel. I can then click the checkmark (green) and not hte red cross, and now 5 minutes later, it has not stopped. It is still at 50%, doing "phone model-specific backup". How long should I wait for it to backup my N5800? How long should I wait for the "cancel backup" button to react? 5 minutes seems that it should be possible for an operation to cancel. I'm a bit unfamilar with Windows. I'm a Linux user, so I may be a bit spoiled in that I expect a progress bar to update more than once an hour, or that a cancel button should work within 5 minutes.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've had my Samsung Vibrant for a few days and am getting a strong sense of buyer's remorse. I've owned a couple of Windows Mobile phones before as well as Nokia Symbian phones and have sold them all for the same reason. I'm just too easily swept up by the hype and the specs, when in reality I am not even close to being a power user and the compromises of owning a smartphone are ultimately too much. Battery life, form factor, ergonomics, ease of use, real physical buttons, aesthetics, comfortability, etc. are still greatly diminished. I was hoping that because of the rabid adoption of smartphones into the mainstream nowadays that they would start to become more mainstream friendly, but it seems the opposite is happening since even dumbphones are taking bad design cues from their bigger smartphone brothers.
Now speaking about the Samsung Vibrant, here's what has been irking me. The biggest problem is the form factor. It's like holding an index card that you don't want to accidentally bend. Beyond the slimy chrome trim, there's nothing else really to hold onto on the sides. The sides also slope down towards a less wide back instead of being rounded with the same width. I can never hold the phone in any sort of safe grip, as its always a delicate process requiring a gentle touch. Then there is the cheap plastic back, very slimy as well, along with the chrome, making holding a phone feel like a real mess.
When I make a call, I have to place my face against a greasy flat glass surface that is overly warm, while holding onto a slimy phone that is also heating up on the backside where the battery is. I don't see the obsession with thinness as those mere millimeters saved really ruin the ergonomics. For comparison, the T-mobile Garminphone, although not as well spec'd, feels so much more solid in the hand with a rubber back and metal finish, and I can actually hold it. Why Samsung placed such a cheap back cover on the phone instead of more premium materials is anyone's guess. They could have placed a better camera, bigger antennae, real buttons on the side, and a bigger battery as well if it weren't for that obsession of getting the thickness under 10mm.
Speaking of battery, since this is my first Android phone, the less than one day battery life was quite shocking, even with many things turned off and the phone mostly unused a majority of the time. The biggest draw for the Samsung Vibrant, of course, was the Super AMOLED screen. Now that I've acquainted myself better with it and the newness has worn off, beyond having brighter and more saturated colors which my eyes feel are less natural and more gaudy, I don't see much difference between it and the LCD on my previous Samsung G600, which I thought had a fantastic screen. I also don't really miss the 4" size, because ultimately beyond checking text updates, I find anything less than a 15" notebook to have too small a screen for comfortable or pleasant web browsing or movie watching.
The phone also isn't much of a looker. Chrome edges, cheap back, and nothing visually to separate it from the iPhone or any other large touchscreen handset.I'm sure most people are perfectly happy with their new Vibrant, but I am really missing my Samsung G600 slider right now and will probably end up selling my Vibrant. My complaints sound superficial but they are enough to be dealbreakers to my enjoyment of this phone.
I am unable to backup Blackberry Bold 9900. The Backup at Smart Card Option takes a long time to complete. I tried all possible solutions that I was able to find on a generic google search.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I got my 5800 I was incredibly unimpressed with pretty much every aspect of it. Utter rubbish.I went online and checked out Nokia's Ovi store and there were about 3 apps there, none of which any good.
Thought I'd use Ovi again today. I couldn't remember what password I used so I went through the password retrival service on my phone. To do this you need to type in some letters displayed onscreen. Only the image doesn't work. On Nokia's phone, running Nokia's app, Nokia's password retrieval is impossible. This typifies everything about Nokia - unwieldy and clunky solutions that fail at every step. Nothing is straightforward or simple to use.
Finally logged on (after going on my PC). Logged on via my phone, went to download an App and "Cannot download due to an error".
Just got a refurbished D2G, the Nav app takes a long time to long on > 10min sometimes. Anyone else having this issue? Called VZW up they claim that google pushed out an update which breaks Nav. I called BS, then he tried to blame it on the hurricane.I have been through 4 of these phones, all with different annoying problems, Getting tired of it.

I have lost ~20 pictures I took during my family's 4th of July event this weekend. It was the first time they have met my 17 month old daughter. Normally I wouldn't sweat loosing pictures, but these are very important to me.It restored every picture up until the backup I did before I left Sunday morning. I have tried A few different backups, one I made before I erased and synced my phone(new computer, old one was my work computer, no access to it).

I have been backing up an iPhone 4 to iCloud for a while. I then purchased a new iPhone 4 as the old one was damaged, and set it up as a new phone. I haven't got around to setting up icloid backup yet. I now realise I want some data from an app in the old backup. Here is what I propose to do:
1. Backup new iPhone to iCloud
2. Restore new iPhone from old backup
3. Use the app's 'Email me my data feature' to get a copy of the DB
4. Restore new iPhone from new backup
Clearly I can only do this if during step 1 it doesn't overwrite the old backup. Can I have two separate backups?
I just updated to iOS 5.1.1 on my 3GS phone, previously using 5.0, while plugged into the computer and iTunes 10.6.3. I had the phone set to backup to iCloud, and ran a sync operation before updating.Does that not also create a backup? When the restore process began, it asked if I wanted to set up as a new phone or restore from backup. However the list of available backups did not have anything from today. The last one listed was from October 2011.So I cancelled that operation, went through the new phone setup and then it asked if I wanted to restore from iCloud. So I chose the most recent iCloud backup which was from around 6 AM this morning. Now it is in the process of downloading all my apps, pics, and perhaps music as well. I don't know but it's going to take HOURS to finish this.
Anyway I opened some apps that have already downloaded, and some app data appears to be intact. But other apps have nothing after October 2011. And I'm talking apps that have tracked my fitness and workout progress over the past 6 months, bike rides in the past few months, car fuel fillup and maintenance history since October, I'm talking LOTS of data that appears to be gone. What did I do wrong here? Did I not do what I should have done regarding backups? What is the point of backing up to iCloud if it's not going to back up all my app data?

I have a 4s 16gb. I am unable to run the update to iOS7 as I cant back up my phone. So I dont have any access to facetime and some of the new apps. It says it is too big to back up to icloud and then when I plug it into my (new) laptop it is asking me to connect to the original backup PC which is no longer in existence?Â
How I would do this as looking to get a new iphone5 handset but need to back everything up before I can get new handset and restore?Â
I have Windows 7 installed and have seriously tried everything to fix this, deleting old back ups, cheacking my firewall, unintalling and reinstalling itunes, deleting pictures that may be corrupt.
