I am off to Spain for a couple of weeks. I would like to use my phone abroad but not the internet through the data or anything else that uses the data There is free wifi at the Hotel so I just want to use that. How do I avoid any additional charges other than for phone calls. Are there specific settings that I need to change temporarily
View 8 Replies View RelatedI was traveling in Germany and Italy, and I made sure to set "Data Services While Roaming" to "Off." However, I still did incur data roaming charges. They are really small-- like 15KB/day, but it's nonetheless annoying that my Blackberry Bold 9700 is using data even though I turned it off. I use AT&T. Does anyone know why?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI travelled to Colombia recently and in general, had my phone either turned off, or on airplane mode the entire trip. I only used it for one five minute phone call and to listen to music for about five hours accumulated. I was there for about 8 days.
I was told to put the phone on airplane mode, so as to avoid any roaming charges, as my fellow travel companions (who all also owned iPhones), said "that way nothing comes through. No wi-fi, messages, nothing".

Hi! Does anyone know of a way to get voicemail recorded directly on the phone? Say somebody calls you and your phone is on but you don't answer, the phone records the message to the memory? I know my old Sanyo phone could do it, but can the Nokia 6275i or any phone for that matter? Thanks!

View 6 Replies View RelatedHow to disable A-GPS on Xperia Mini Pro SK17i to avoid data transfer while roaming? (And accept longer GPS fix)
Is this: Setting > Location & securiti: uncheck Use wireless networks and leave only Use GPS satellites.I want to just disable the A-GPS but not all data transfer (Internet, mail, ... on demand)
In the Battery and Data Manager > Data Delivery settings we have some options with respect to using data over the mobile networks and roaming.Last weekend my wife (iPhone) and I went to the Canadian side of Niagara falls. I double checked that on both of our phones, we had the Data roaming option disabled, but as AT&T still gets reasonable signal, I left data enabled over our home network. From time to time, the phones roamed to Rogers where we either got texts or in the case of my Atrix a notification saying were roaming and that we had disabled data so couldn't access anything. Great - I thought. The iPhone made it through the weekend just fine. The Atrix, not so much.Very early in the trip, at one point when I woke my screen to check it, I saw AT&T at the top with the data transfer indicators active (and blue). Then, the signal switched to Rogers and the transfer lights stayed on for a few seconds, before eventutally disappearing and only then did the data roaming notification pop up.
I thought this was weird, so I checked my balance, and sure enough, I had 80kB of roaming data present. Not much but at 1.5c per kB I wasn't sure I wanted to keep chancing this happening, and so resorted to turning off mobile data alltogether - which I don't think I should have to do (and DIDN'T have to on the iPhone).I'm not all that impressed. The data roaming option is a software issue - as the network by default allows it and so the onus is on "us" to make sure we don't accrue unwanted charges - but how can I if the phone just kinda does what it wants anyway?
Going on a cruise next week that has GSM roaming on it. I plan to leave the phone off unless I need to check in with someone in US.I know that the voice rate will be $4.99 per minute, but how do I turn off the data portion of the phone to not rack up crazy roaming data charges. I do have unlimited international email but suspect the cruise ship does not count.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI though I would create a thread for those who buy iPhones via craigslist, eBay, or HoFo They are a few ways to verify what version and if it can be unlocked. Please add if you find anything incorrect or have one of you own.
1. iPhone 3GS are the only models that have Voice Control. Verify this by holding down the home phone to activate it.
2. Know the Apple's website to verify the serial #. This will tell you what version it is. Have the link saved in your pc or smartphone. Calling Apple will take too long
3. As of this post, 3.1.2 and 5.11.07 can be unlocked. modem firmware 5.12.01 cannot at this time. 3.1.3 can be downgraded to 3.1.2, but not the Modem Firmware to 5.11.07. If it really could be done, someone would be doing it and charging alot of $$ to do it.
4. Not sure if this is the case with the new jailbreak, but 3GS model with the 3rd to 5th serial number at or above 940 are mostly likely the tethered jailbreak type. This have been the case from my experiences
5. Verify the size of the phone by going to Settings, General, About. There are times where the back has been changed to represent a different size.
6. Look at the LCD in the light. If you see horizontal lines, the screen may have been replaced. Also replacements don't get as bright as the original LCDs. In my area there are plenty of ads and more stores opening that repair iphones
7. If the buyer is claiming that the phone is unlockable, but it's on the connect to ITunes screen, chances are it's not.
8. Dual Sim iPhones and Mini iPhone are not legit
9. Verify no water damage has occurred by looking at the indicators in the headphone and USB Port.

I would like to ask how it is with the charging battery in iphone 5s. I mean to charge so as not to damage the batteries and ensure a long service life. I've heard that charging the battery to full (100%) is not good and that charging all night is harmful to the battery. How is it really like to load to avoid damaging the battery.

My iPhone 3gs is stuck in that mode where I can't get pass the white Apple logo even after several hard reboots (holding down the power and bottom center button. After a reboot the white apple logo appears and then it just goes away.I figured out how to get the phone to into recovery mode so that iTunes can do a restore, but I am getting the message that says "Are you sure you want to restore the iPhone to its factory settings" All of your media and other data will be erased and the newest version of the iPhone software will be installed.
Is there any way to do a restore without allowing my iPhone's software to be upgraded to the newest version of iPhone software? I have 3.0 and want to keep it because I use my phone to tether. During the restore phase is there a way to cancel the portion of it that attempts to upgrade my software to the latest software?
I was just looking at Bell's rate plan promotions for the iPhone 4 and I noticed it said
From July 30 to September 30th get 6GB of data for only $30 per month with unlimited Wi-Fi in over 750 locations.
Now I was thinking is this a some sort of marketing tactic, to make some people think you normally really do have to pay, or do you actually normally have to pay?
So i went to the apple store because my phone was not charging and they told that it was water damage but it was not because i made a proffesional check my iphone. he than said that it was the thing were you plug the chrager to charge.after all of that my iphone 4 started charging when it was off but when i turn it back on it would not chrage, now it only charges when its off and not on. it even doesnt show the chraging sign on the statues bar at the top

A colleague mentioned they have been charged for using FaceTime by their UK provider? It got me thinking, although it uses wifi to carry out the call, it initiates as a standard phone call so even when it switches to wifi does it still maintain that cellular connection and then the call comes out of your inclusive minutes or charges you? It got me thinking because if the new iPod does get FaceTime, with no cellular connection they obviously cant initiate the call in the same way the iPhone 4 does. Which then led me to think if you just go straight to the FaceTime button in the contacts app and use that does that go straight to a FaceTime call and therefore does not do anything cellular?

I know the iPhone battery isn't that great and most people on here charge over night. I charge over night, at work, later when I get home, then again at night ( prob down to 60%). should I limit the number of charges to save the long term life of the battery or can the battery take it?

My 32gb iPhone 5 died on me and I plugged it in so it can charge and nothing happened for the longest time. After several hours it was charged to 35% and it kept charging really slow. The phone would also get really warm, more warm if I tried using it while it was charging. When I would unplug it, it would die really fast or would jump down 10-20%, with little to no use at all, in a few minutes and when I plug it in it jumps up to the percent it was at and then continue charging very slowly. I'm using a wall socket with the apple chord and the apple power adapter, and I have turned it on and off. me figure out what is wrong and how I can possibly fix it?Â
I can't find this similar problem in other forums, I don't have time to drive to downtown to ask an apple employee and since it is over a year they won't do anything to fix it anyway, can't chat with customer service because I have to pay 20 bucks and it is not worth it. Apple needs to make better products and get better customer service.

View 1 Replies View RelatedLike I said I plug the phone in at night before bed. When I wake up in the morning, with the phone still plugged in, the phone is unresponsive. Pressing the home button brings up the "iPhone-is-charging-please-wait" icon, indicating that its out of battery power but will power up when its ready. So, I wait, and wait, and wait, and finally it powers up to reveal that the battery power is at 100%. iPhone 4, appx 1 year old not jailbroken no problems otherwise What's going on?

Does the iPhone 4 automatically use WiFi instead of 3G, for data use, when it is connected to a WiFi network?
Or is there some magic I have to perform to get it not to use the 3G side of the phone?
I have a limited data contract, and would like to avoid excessive data charges.
