I travelled to Colombia recently and in general, had my phone either turned off, or on airplane mode the entire trip. I only used it for one five minute phone call and to listen to music for about five hours accumulated. I was there for about 8 days.
I was told to put the phone on airplane mode, so as to avoid any roaming charges, as my fellow travel companions (who all also owned iPhones), said "that way nothing comes through. No wi-fi, messages, nothing".
I am off to Spain for a couple of weeks. I would like to use my phone abroad but not the internet through the data or anything else that uses the data There is free wifi at the Hotel so I just want to use that. How do I avoid any additional charges other than for phone calls. Are there specific settings that I need to change temporarily
Ever since the official release of OS .405 for AT&T, I've been trying to get it via OTA unsuccessfully. I have an AT&T account but I've been in New Zealand for a few weeks now. I have unlimited international data (the old plan they don't offer anymore) but I was thinking maybe there was something with roaming on the networks down here that's prohibiting me from downloading it. Does anyone know if it should work anyway or will I have to just wait until I'm back in the US?
How to disable A-GPS on Xperia Mini Pro SK17i to avoid data transfer while roaming? (And accept longer GPS fix)
Is this: Setting > Location & securiti: uncheck Use wireless networks and leave only Use GPS satellites.I want to just disable the A-GPS but not all data transfer (Internet, mail, ... on demand)
I know this thread is a year old, but I have to drag it up again as it seems Motorola haven't dealt with this problem yet. I have owned a Defy since a few weeks. I have a German vodafone contract which gives me a data roaming flatrate for several countries including Italy, where I am a lot of the time. And this roaming warning is driving me insane!! It pops up about 50 times a day (I live in an area with weak connection, so my phone loses the network sometimes, but finds it again after a few seconds, and up pops this warning), turns the screen on, drains the battery. It also pops up continually while I am driving and using the phone as a navigator, so I have to continually check "yes" so I can see the screen again, which can be pretty dangerous if you are driving on winding mountain roads...
I was traveling in Germany and Italy, and I made sure to set "Data Services While Roaming" to "Off." However, I still did incur data roaming charges. They are really small-- like 15KB/day, but it's nonetheless annoying that my Blackberry Bold 9700 is using data even though I turned it off. I use AT&T. Does anyone know why?
Has anyone returned their phone to Best Buy and avoided the restocking fee a buddy is looking todo this but I wasn't sure bc he sensor issue, blurs on his photos with blue boxes and antenna issue even with a 3/4 case it still drops calls.
I though I would create a thread for those who buy iPhones via craigslist, eBay, or HoFo They are a few ways to verify what version and if it can be unlocked. Please add if you find anything incorrect or have one of you own. 1. iPhone 3GS are the only models that have Voice Control. Verify this by holding down the home phone to activate it. 2. Know the Apple's website to verify the serial #. This will tell you what version it is. Have the link saved in your pc or smartphone. Calling Apple will take too long 3. As of this post, 3.1.2 and 5.11.07 can be unlocked. modem firmware 5.12.01 cannot at this time. 3.1.3 can be downgraded to 3.1.2, but not the Modem Firmware to 5.11.07. If it really could be done, someone would be doing it and charging alot of $$ to do it. 4. Not sure if this is the case with the new jailbreak, but 3GS model with the 3rd to 5th serial number at or above 940 are mostly likely the tethered jailbreak type. This have been the case from my experiences 5. Verify the size of the phone by going to Settings, General, About. There are times where the back has been changed to represent a different size. 6. Look at the LCD in the light. If you see horizontal lines, the screen may have been replaced. Also replacements don't get as bright as the original LCDs. In my area there are plenty of ads and more stores opening that repair iphones 7. If the buyer is claiming that the phone is unlockable, but it's on the connect to ITunes screen, chances are it's not. 8. Dual Sim iPhones and Mini iPhone are not legit 9. Verify no water damage has occurred by looking at the indicators in the headphone and USB Port.
I would like to ask how it is with the charging battery in iphone 5s. I mean to charge so as not to damage the batteries and ensure a long service life. I've heard that charging the battery to full (100%) is not good and that charging all night is harmful to the battery. How is it really like to load to avoid damaging the battery.
My iPhone 3gs is stuck in that mode where I can't get pass the white Apple logo even after several hard reboots (holding down the power and bottom center button. After a reboot the white apple logo appears and then it just goes away.I figured out how to get the phone to into recovery mode so that iTunes can do a restore, but I am getting the message that says "Are you sure you want to restore the iPhone to its factory settings" All of your media and other data will be erased and the newest version of the iPhone software will be installed.
Is there any way to do a restore without allowing my iPhone's software to be upgraded to the newest version of iPhone software? I have 3.0 and want to keep it because I use my phone to tether. During the restore phase is there a way to cancel the portion of it that attempts to upgrade my software to the latest software?
I'm on an iPhone 4 on 5.1.1. I'm in Asia trying to send iMessages back to the U.S. because it doesn't use texting costs, but I can't get any to go through to other iPhones on 5.x in the USA. I have 3G, data and roaming turned off - do any of these affect iMessage? Whenever I go to message someone, there is no option but to send the message as a text message.
i wanted to try out a facetime call with someone over in japan just to see if it works.i am in the united states.i will initiate it via the phonebook so there won't be charges on either end. it should be all wifi.
i bought an iphone 4 units of a friend but unfortunately it is a lock on the carrier .I ask and said it's orange on the Spanish network . How can i do to my iphone into the international version .My iphone is in version 4.11.08.How to unlock my iphone ???? I live and work offline in the Czech Republic
I have an iPhone 4. Since day one that I bought the phone, I have not been successful to send international text messages. The procedure for sending an international text message is simple: enter 011, followed by the country code, and then the phone number. It has never worked. Each time, I get the following error message -- "Message Send Failure". Any ideas for fixing this problem? What surprises me most is that I have an HTC Trophy with the same Mobile Service provider. No problem exists with the HTC Trophy for sending international text messages.
I have always been able to FaceTime locally and internationally. Now it seems international FaceTime use, both incoming and outgoing fails. Connection is fine on local numbers. How can the international connection be solved?
I've added my Exchange account to my iPhone 4, latest iOS as of 2/5/2012. Everything is working fine, my contacts included except one thing:
In my company's Active Directory, we specify our phone numbers with international dialing codes. So all of my team members in the UK's numbers are showing up as 44 xxxx etc. On other phones, namely an HTC Windows phone, there's a feature that still allows you to make calls to numbers with the international dialing codes.
Basically I'm looking for the feature that auto calls numbers that have 44 in front of them, otherwise I am going to have to manually edit every phone number in my contact list (well over 300).
I purchased a iphone from malaysia few months back, then I moved to united kingdom. Herhe in UK I can do the setting in the iphone to hide my caller id. settings->Phone->show my caller Id.
When I call local numbers with in UK the reciever of call is not able to see my number "BLOCKED" appears to the caller. however when I call to someone in India then the reciever is able to see my number on the phone.
So I have been traveling a lot, and wherever I've been there's one common thing. it costs an arm and a leg to call back to the US from iPhone, regardless if roaming on AT&T, or using that country's local SIM.I have both Google Voice +, and Skype.GV + is nice for texting, but the nature of it's operation is you dial a number and it dials you back to complete the call, which negates the purpose because then it's still using airtime if roaming on AT&T, and if using a foreign SIM it won't dial out to connect the call to an international.Skype is great because when I'm on a hotel's WiFi or 3G network I can use it to call back to the US to toll-free numbers, however it doesn't allow free calls to standard area-code numbers (like homecell phones. Is there any alternative I'm not seeing? What do people use to accomplish this? I would love to see a company like Vonage or MagicJack come up with an application that would do what I'm looking for, but it seems like there are regulatory hurdles they're facing to accomplish it from what I'm reading online.
Since upgrading to ios 5.1.1 my iphone 4s will not roam. I am unable to connect to a phone network in Europe (apart from my home network o2 in the UK) but it does work in Africa?
o2 sent me a new sim card but this has not made any difference hence I think the problem may be with ios 5.1.1, any one able to offer any help?
I own a BB Torch 9800. It used to be for personal use only, but recently my service provider has activated BB Enterprise and my company IT department has synchronized my corporate email on it.Everything works well, except for the fact that I have now a 'keystore password' that locks my screen every 30 minutes and I need to enter a password to unlock. In the password setup, the tick mark to enable/disable is locked so I cannot turn it off. And the lock frequency is max 30 minutes.
