i wanted to try out a facetime call with someone over in japan just to see if it works.i am in the united states.i will initiate it via the phonebook so there won't be charges on either end. it should be all wifi.

The iPad sold by Softbank is exactly like that. Inside Japan it is locked to Softbank but outside of Japan you can stick any micro SIM in it.

The Japan map on Ovi 3.03 is basically useless. It is only 6-ish MB and contains such a lack of detail that I wonder why they even bothered to put it up.I read on another post that previously, there was a 19MB version of the map. Does anyone know how to get that on 3.03?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn Japan, where I bought my SGS II from NTTdocomo, GPS was always working fine. But since I moved to Germany a month ago GPS has lots of problems. Google Maps as well as other map application seem not to be able to get a GPS fix:
- The map shows a location near me but not accurate.
- In Google Maps there is always a large circle around the location mark, indicating low accuracy.
- Even though I move my physical location, the location mark on the map doesn't update for a long time.
- MyTracks (by Google) constantly shows the message "Waiting for a better GPS fix".
Is my GPS sensor broken or could this be related to using a NTTdocomo branded SGS II in another country? All this is happening with a clearly visible sky.
I have my FaceTime set up on both devices, wifi on full bars, but it says FaceTime failed when I call. I also call from both devices at once and it makes no difference. I know the information is correct.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI travelled to Colombia recently and in general, had my phone either turned off, or on airplane mode the entire trip. I only used it for one five minute phone call and to listen to music for about five hours accumulated. I was there for about 8 days.
I was told to put the phone on airplane mode, so as to avoid any roaming charges, as my fellow travel companions (who all also owned iPhones), said "that way nothing comes through. No wi-fi, messages, nothing".

I have an iPhone 4. Since day one that I bought the phone, I have not been successful to send international text messages. The procedure for sending an international text message is simple: enter 011, followed by the country code, and then the phone number. It has never worked. Each time, I get the following error message -- "Message Send Failure". Any ideas for fixing this problem? What surprises me most is that I have an HTC Trophy with the same Mobile Service provider. No problem exists with the HTC Trophy for sending international text messages.

I've added my Exchange account to my iPhone 4, latest iOS as of 2/5/2012. Everything is working fine, my contacts included except one thing:
In my company's Active Directory, we specify our phone numbers with international dialing codes. So all of my team members in the UK's numbers are showing up as 44 xxxx etc. On other phones, namely an HTC Windows phone, there's a feature that still allows you to make calls to numbers with the international dialing codes.
Basically I'm looking for the feature that auto calls numbers that have 44 in front of them, otherwise I am going to have to manually edit every phone number in my contact list (well over 300).

I purchased a iphone from malaysia few months back, then I moved to united kingdom. Herhe in UK I can do the setting in the iphone to hide my caller id. settings->Phone->show my caller Id.
When I call local numbers with in UK the reciever of call is not able to see my number "BLOCKED" appears to the caller. however when I call to someone in India then the reciever is able to see my number on the phone.

So I have been traveling a lot, and wherever I've been there's one common thing. it costs an arm and a leg to call back to the US from iPhone, regardless if roaming on AT&T, or using that country's local SIM.I have both Google Voice +, and Skype.GV + is nice for texting, but the nature of it's operation is you dial a number and it dials you back to complete the call, which negates the purpose because then it's still using airtime if roaming on AT&T, and if using a foreign SIM it won't dial out to connect the call to an international.Skype is great because when I'm on a hotel's WiFi or 3G network I can use it to call back to the US to toll-free numbers, however it doesn't allow free calls to standard area-code numbers (like homecell phones.Is there any alternative I'm not seeing? What do people use to accomplish this? I would love to see a company like Vonage or MagicJack come up with an application that would do what I'm looking for, but it seems like there are regulatory hurdles they're facing to accomplish it from what I'm reading online.

I brought it back to canada and got it unlocked and now am using it on FIDO, no problems with data everythings good.I can't seem to add any international contacts on BBM, well thats a guess, I've only tried adding UK pins and it just stays in pending and the other contact gets nothing, they try adding me and it stays in pending while i get nothing. I can add all canadian pins no problem? I called FIDO they said there is no block on my account of any sorts so it must be on RIMS side, i called rim they tried charging me 49$ to "look into the problem", I dont have 49$ to blow, so is there any other solutions or anything before i am forced to pay it?

It used to work before and now it does not work, they cant get my add requests, sometime added contacts get my messages. I don't get anything from them. View 2 Replies View RelatedPosting on behalf of my brother who got a nokia 6303 with vodafone uk in november 2009.He previously has had a nokia 6300 phone with o2.
He has had trouble sending texts to US from UK (the texts are not getting to US person). Tried several things that vodafone have suggested and nothing has worked - today he is out to collect a new sim card from them. And if that fails, its a problem with phone.
I have tried to do an update to the firmware (vodafone suggested trying) but the version on the phone is 8.* something and nokia pc suite (OVI suite and nokia updater) software all say its the latest one available so no update possible.
I have googled to see some pages mentioning version 10.10 for nokia 6303 - if that exists, its not updating the phone when I try.
So really have no idea why international texting is not working with this phone. The o2 sim was also tried in the phone and it too failed to send the international text even the sim works and sends texts ok in other phones.
