It slipped out of a bag while it was being picked up. I'd say about 1 foot of the ground and he said that its suppose to be stronger than plastic. My 3G was dropped about 20 times and only got some scratches, ever nothing like this. Apple said $200 to fix it
I'm a new iPhone user, but I use only Mac products. That being said, I'm not a fanboy. I'm just a designer and photographer that requires this kind of equipment for my work. I waited 3 generations for Apple to work out its bugs and when I saw the iPhone 4, I knew it was time to buy. Everyone has been talking about the antennae. It's pretty much been talked to death, so yeah, I have that same issue and I use a rubber bumper. But, am I the only one that really confused about the strength of the glass? Apple writes, "Chemically strengthened to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic". But I've never had any plastic item, no matter how fragile shatter when dropped. Is this not a blatant marketing deception? Can anyone tell me if they've ever dropped a plastic anything and it shattered?
Do you think that Apple made a calculated risk with it's new antenna design? Let's take the 3G/3GS.....the antenna is on the inside of the phone behind essentially an outer plastic shell. So a naked iPhone 3GS the antenna signal goes through 1 layer (the plastic back).
Do you think Apple had enough research and statistics to show that the majority of users put an iPhone in some sort of case, whether that case is plastic or silicone? So now on a 3GS, the antenna has to go through the plastic back, then a plastic/silicone case....now it's going through 2 layers. Do you think they determined that this combo caused a lower/weaker signal?
Now the iPhone 4....antenna on the outside. Do you think Apple took a calculated risk in knowing that most people put it in a case anyway (heck even Steve in one of his emails suggested using a case) and the fact they came out with the bumper....that they knew since most people would put a case on it....that the antenna being on the outside would provide a stronger signal?
Yes, the people who choose to go caseless with their phones are more easily affected by the issue, but since that may be the minority of users, Apple is ok with saying "Hold it differently"? We all know Apple does things based on what they "think" the majority of users will do....ie: no firewire on low end Macbooks.I don't know anything about antenna signals, so I'm just guessing here.....but if an antenna's signal is degraded behind each layer of plastic etc, then by moving the antenna outside, Apple is giving it a better chance at getting a stronger signal, even though there is a side effect of direct contact with skin that can cause the signal to degrade significantly.
Tests I would like to see are the difference in signal strength in a 3GS with the back on and the back off.
I just got my 4 yesterday in store pick up. Has the bumper on since I got it. Today I decided to take it off just to get a naked feel before putting on the invisishield. Well I noticed 2 small Knicks on the plastic right under the steel band.
I was having problem with the fingerprint scanner, so I updated to the .152. Â Before the update the sound was really balanced, althought wasnt loud enoght in my opinion, but it was ok.
Alright, went on a hike today, and even though I kept it (4S) in a plastic bag when not taking pictures, I have water damage. It won't respond to anything, and the flash near the camera is stuck on.
My iPhone 5c makes a sound like the plastic is cracking. This only noticeably happens in the top right corner. The screen also felt loose a little in the top right corner. Therefore I took it to the shop yesterday for both problems, and they replaced the handset. The screen now looks fine but the noise is still there.Â
Have Iphone 3G. The plastic sheet over the screen is inclined to lifet and blobs of air bubbles are appearing beneath. I can rub them out (expel the air), but I need to refix the plastic sheet firmly and safely.
My nokia 5800 faces some problems here after upgrading to the new V50 firmware, not sure whether have u all encountered it before.
1. Sometimes when typing SMS, the cursor will keep moving backwards and hang there (sounding tut tut tut... continuously and unstoppable)
2. Sometimes the vibration on touching the screen will suddenly become stronger than normal, like suddenly Zeeek, zek, zek rather than normal zek, zek, zek~
I am not sure whether it is common in V50 firmware or it happens only to my specific phone.
The last time I synced with Outlook, a lot of the same contacts came up multiple times -- around 50+ times each. Seems the only way to delete them is individually. I would like to know the following: 1) is there a way to do multiple deletes and 2) what made this happen.
I have a HS -500 blue tooth on which I lost the rubber ear piece and broke the plastic ear loop holder. I have gone to several cell phone stores, contacted blackberry directly and have gone on web sites. i cannot find anyone who sell these spare parts. I can't believe that an 80$ blue tooth has been rendered useless because of this.
So I'm at work, I plug my Tour in to charge, about 10 minutes later I smell burning plastic. I don't know what went wrong, but the tip of my charger was really hot and was starting to melt. Better believe I'm getting Verizon to replace it! I'm just happy my Tour is unharmed, even if it is about to lose pow.
It's been a LONG time since I've posted here, although I've been on HoFo and RFD a lot more. I just got my Bell Blackberry Bold 9700 and I'm so excited.
Gonna upgrade from a curve 8330. I used a clear plastic cover for my 8330 to preserve it, is there a cheap one available for the 9700, is it recommended because of the rubber/leather style rear cover?
I read the sticky about the 5 things to do to your S% when you get it and have a question about removing the clear plastic film over the camera lens. The sticky says to remove it but on mine there's a hole in the centre right over the middle of the lens, a few mm in diameter. I assumed it was there was there for protection so have left it in place especially in view of the hole over the centre of the lens. So is it still obscuring something or can I leave it there?
Ive had my iphone 4s for about 5 months now and i bought a new case for it the other day when i took the Other case off i noticed that the plastic is not flush to the sides of the phone at one side it appears to be a little warped not trying to sound like im OCD but for £500 the Phone should be perfect
I've got a customer with a crack on the outer plastic over the LCD on her phone. Is there a place I can order a replacement housing for this phone? I haven't seen anything in my google searches.
My xoom was returned with some marks on the plastic back piece (along the top edge). These were definetely not there when i sent it to Motorola. Will Moto do anything to remedy this?
Two days ago, I noticed that my torch doesnt get anything stronger than "egde" it used to always to up to "EDGE" since its unlcoked and am using with Tmobile but i can't use BBM (even with WiFi), and can only use the browser with WiFi.I have done a hard reset over and over again but its still on "edge"
I've got a week old 8520, put an invisible shield on the other day and it looks ok. One corner is screwed up because I had to peel it up to remove a speck of dust but over all it looks fine. I just noticed today that there was some dust under one of the corners, but it's under the plastic screen not under the invisible shield. I thought these screens were sealed? It hasn't been dropped or anything, barely been used. Any advise besides taking it off and cleaning it out? What else besides the special plastic tool can be used to remove the screen?
Is it possible to add times to all text messages received and sent? If not how does the iPhone determine which text messages get a time and which ones do not?
I have very good bandwidth at home and can usually download HD iTunes movies fairly quickly. When I try to download the 580 MB 4.0.1 update it fluctuates between 5-8 hours and takes over several minutes just to get to 1 MB. Are the servers overloaded?
I have scores of apps on my iPhone (and iPad). Many, many I've never used since the day I installed them or only used a couple of times. It'd be interesting to have an app that would tell me how many times I used each, and that way I could get rid of the ones that haven't been used in the past month or two. In fact, I wouldn't even mind a mass delete of the ones I haven't used in months!
I'm thinking, though, that such an app would require inter-communication with other apps, or system-level monitoring that only Apple could provide. Hey, maybe there's something in Settings that would show that?! I know that I discovered after too many months the Usage screen buried inside Settings that tells me how much space each app is taking up.
Ive never dropped or spilled anything on my phone, and i've only had it for less than 7 months. It will randomly turn off and I will try to restart it. It freezes on the restart screen so i usually have to restart it again. Also, sometimes the screen will spit for a couple of seconds but thats minor compared to it shutting off on me 5 times a day. Im thinking its a hardware glitch, but at the same time i'm not very tech savvy! Im wondering if i have to pay for it and what's the process of them fixing/replacing my phone? Im a student and everything i have is on my phone so im really hoping i wont be without a phone for a week or so just so they can figure out the problem!
