1. GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks - this lets Google use any of these to find your location even if Wi-Fi or location is turned off. When this is switched on, you'll often find Google Play Services is one of the biggest issues.
2. Wi-Fi and mobile networks - this disables the GPS chip inside your Galaxy S6 Edge and is probably the least useful of the three options. Relying on just mobile networks and Wi-Fi will allow you to find your location quickly but will then use a lot of data and battery as it relies on your Wi-Fi and mobile networks to keep track of your location.
3. GPS only - this is actually the mode I use as it prevents Google scanning in the background (more on that below). It has its pitfalls in that it can take a while to find your location but the battery savings from not having Google scanning are plentiful.
We know that option 1 and 2 could lead to extreme battery drain because Google uses the location manager and wake up the device. When you attempt to turn on either the first or the second option, you're greeted with a prompt from Google to "Improve location accuracy". The option means that anonymous location data can sporadically be sent to Google even when no apps are running, and as a result, this can have a large impact on your battery life, especially when using Google Now or widgets that depend on location. If I choose one of these options I do not see the dialog anymore. Maybe I accidentally clicked "don' t show again".
How can I get the dialog back? When I enable the locations, it is always set to option 1, even if I had 3 the last time.
Accuracy is terrible for me. Have tried it directly with the phone and through a Blueant Q1 headset. In both cases it's rare for the voice dialing to recognize the name or numbers I'm saying, even in a quietly running car with the windows closed and no music. Sometimes the guesses are completely off, like when I say "604" for the area code and it asks if I said "644".I've read on this board about training the devie to my voice but I can't see how to do that.As an aside, I hate the voice with the british accent that reads back the name or number - any way to change it to a North American accent?I'm running a 9550 with 5.0.0.320.
On my PC and Galaxy Tab 10.1, when connected to my home router, I get about 1.5 mbps for my download speed. On the HTC I get less than 500 kbps. Anyone any ideas on how I can improve the download speed on the Desire, or is this the speed which it is supposed to operate at?
I have created a .xls spreadsheet using Open Office that i placed in a folder on my Laptop which i have synched to the Desire but it wouldnt open using the Quickoffice app and since loading the Documents to go app i cant find the spreadsheet.
So where do i find and access the folder & how am i able to read it.
I'm looking for a suitable Motorola handset with GPS to deploy on a high altitude photography experiment. It needs to be able to send a regular stream of sms with GPS coordinates. This part may require an app or modding of some kind.It needs to operate on UMTS850Mhz.Can anyone think of a handset that would be suitable?
I'm evaluating if Motoactv will be suitable for my needs as minimizing weight carried is a big concern. Will be going upto 16k feet - So I wont have access to a computer for 25-30 days to move the data to the website etc. the unit will be powered off only at night. My aim is to track at minimum heart rate, pedometer, altitude, route mapping, temperature.
Q1 - Assuming I can supply the actv enough power via solar chargers etc. Will it be able to store all the tracked data for such a long period?
Q2 - I can also carry a tablet - I also need advice on if its possible to move data from the actv via usb to the tablet ( assume zero internet connectivity )
Driving home today, I decided to whip out my iPhone 4 to test out the GPS accuracy. It found me very quickly, but the blue dot was on the side of the road I was currently driving on. The dot was not exactly on the road.
Accuracy of the gps on my elm. from wisepilot, chose options-settings-gps but it always says no gps coverage. i have another gps equipped phone and it is able to detect 7 gps satellites from the same location. has anybody experienced problems with the elm's gps and how did you fix it?
I'm in need of a new sat nav for my car and I'm getting an iPhone 4 when they're being released in Belgium, so I was wondering how accurate the built-in GPS chip works? If you feel it's not accurate enough for fluent turn-by-turn navigation, can you recommend a carkit/accessory with an external GPS antenna (like the TomTom carkit. are there any others?)
Can I use an external gps (for higher accuracy) with the xperia x10? I've got a blumax gps mouse which communicates via bluetooth. Would that work? Wouldn't it? I guess I would be using it with GeoBeagle. How can I find out before I buy the phone which I wouldn't buy if I can't use the external gps?
I think my new 3GS's GPS isn't working well. I removed the sim and turned off wifi and loaded MotionX GPS Lite. It gave me the position with accuracy of 156ft. Is it good for the GPS alone (no A-GPS)? The coordinates are in the woods in front of my house and I was on the porch.
Macrumors.com posted a comparison amongst the top touch screen phones and the study shows that iPhone is the most accurate when it comes to touchscreens. They failed to include the BB Storm 2 in their studies. Having used the iPod Touch and the BB Storm 2 quite a lot over the past couple years, I must say that both compare equally when compared with each other.
I've heard of and experienced a signficant loss of GPS accuracy after I updated my 3GS to iOS4. Has anyone else had the same experience? I'm thinking that there may be a flaw with how iOS4 handles GPS. Not sure how to make this a poll, mod.
I've been using the MA for about a month, I had my first issue with GPS accuracy today. I ran a 6 mile out and back upon checking my route after synching I found that the data showed me running in areas I had not obviously gone. Usually when I do a out and back the route is right on one another. This time I had two lines that varied quite a bit. I noticed my battery was down to 20% before I ran and I swithced it to collect data every two seconds instead of every second like I normally do. Also it was a very sunny/clear day. Has anyone else noticed inaccuracies when using battery saver mode? inaccuracies when not using the MA when low on battery? any success with battery saver mode?
I'm inquiring about the accuracy of the cursor, it seems a bit temperamental at times, not as smooth as the Internet Browser. I have been using Opera Mini for the past three weeks and I still haven't got used to how the cursor works on it. Is there a way to make it so it's like the Internet Browser, or if it's the same with other BlackBerry 9700 devices?
For the past week I've been running in high accuracy location mode because, for one I wanted to see if battery saving mode really saved much battery, and, also when I do need gps it's already on. I found that any difference in battery drain is negligible because gps is almost never on unless I'm specifically using it. Also if I have a phone with certain capabilities I want to utilize those capabilities. And what you've found as far as battery drain.
I have not been able to use any tracking apps with my phone. I have the GPS on and set to high accuracy mode. The maps app pre-installed on the phone sometimes show the location several streets away. Which tracking apps are you using?
Before updating my device to Android 6, I used SmartLock so my phone would unlock automatically when I arrived at home.
After updating, SmartLock doesn't work anymore because of the GPS location, it doesn't have the accuracy needed for it. Whenever I open Maps, for instance, I need to wait for GPS get my accurate position, but if I close and then reopen it I need to do this again. I have high precision setted on my location settings.
Just got a nexus 5. I switched the location settings to battery saver but if I turn off location it defaults back to high accuracy mode when I turn it back on which drains my battery quickly.
I have HTC Desire. I had some videos and pictures in my mobile. I never deleted them from my mobile, I just transferred them to my PC and with transfer they disappear. I can't see them in Gallery any more. Luckily due to the backup software Astro, i have got my Pictures back but I can't locate my videos anywhere. To remind you, I just transferred them, not deleted them from mobile.
The HTC desire and HT Sync work well with Contacts, Photos and Calendar. But with documents, the synchronisation appears to be from the PC to the Desire and not the other way round. Thus it appears to copy rather than synchronise.
mp3 playback on my E55 is dissappointing; you need to add Bass enhancement just to get a flat frequency response and the music lacks detail even on simplet tracks.I know it's not a dedicated mp3 player/'comes with music'/ Walkman phone but how can I improve music playback? - Is eACC format easier on the processor? - Is there a 3rd party mp3/ACC player for E55 that sounds better?
How can I improve my SMS display? It is so bland. Can you have a differnt color for each contact? Is there a better way to distinguish messages sent vs messages received?
I have been using bb9900 for over a month. Like everyone, I am having a problem with the battery of bb9900. 3 day ago, I have up the leak 440 but did not improve the problem of pin. After 6 hours in standby mode my battery from 99% down to 87%. Is that really not normal?
I've had the 4s since the day it was released and have experienced poor battery life from day 1. I've tried everything and I've loaded both software updates that were supposed to help but have not. Within the first 2 weeks of having it, the genuis bar replaced the phone as a troubleshooting step - same result. The batteries on both phones tested out fine by the genius bar. I've had it back to the store since the replacement and they wiped it and reloaded the software - no difference. I've eliminated all apps, turned off email, turned off all alerts, notifications and location services -- to no avail.
