Just bought a HTC Magic, unlocked but has Vodafone branding on it, anyone have any idea how to debrand it? Is it even possible? Any info would be great, im both a HTC and an Andriod noob.

I'm a complete n00b to smart phones as the htc magic or mytouch would be my first one. Anyway I know the htc magic is the original european version of Tmobile's mytouch 3g. I've done a little research and heard that the Magic has more RAM, and a few other perks that the mytouch did not come with. I actually am thinking about buying an unlocked magic and using it here (washington DC) with t-mobile. Ultimately, my question is, does anyone have any feedback on using the magic on a tmobile network? Since vodafone is the provider for the Magic, would I be missing out on cool features available only on the European network? And would I be better off just sticking to the US tmobile version?

First, where is a good place to look for getting my HTC Magic unlocked. I have no idea about online businesses or anything haha. And secondly, would my magic even work on the Koodo Network. I know i have to have the same bands or something, but i'm a little challenged when it comes to all of this.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am writing this as a last resort; consider it an act of desperation! For the last 4 hours or so I have been trying to flash my HTC Magic (Rogers). I had issues with the ADB finding my phone on Windows XP SP3, Windows 7 AND XP SP2. After using PDaNet it finally listed it in the cmd on the SP2 pc.Now: the next step was to turn the phone off (did that), then turn it back on in fastboot mode (no problem) and then send the recovery.img prompt. As soon as I did this? Device not found! So I go back and type in "adb devices" to see if it's still listed there and it isn't!
I don't understand?!! Why is this not working? I'm tearing my hair out over here after spending so much bloody time on this I just wish it would work.
Will this phone accept the Android 2.0 upgrade?Local phone co is saying that it does not have sufficient memory for the upgrade and that HTC Magic/G2 does? Experts please confirm...

Finally becoming fed up with my iPhone crashing, restarting on its own and taking 10+ minutes to turn back on I decided I'm done with it so a few weeks ago on eBay I ordered a used HTC Magic for Rogers(my provider). It has a broken battery cover so theres tape all over the back but that doesn't matter.What does matter is that every time I try to connect it with the MacBook Pro it connects just fine for about 1 minute then it disconnects so I'm either JUST getting one song finished uploading on the Magic or it fails when its just about finished. I tried restarting the Mac and the Magic and nothing is working.This is a huge problem for me because to play music was the whole reason I bought this phone because my iPhone would keep restarting while I was driving around and left me with nothing to listen to for around 10 minutes and now on this HTC Magic I cant even get songs on the thing so I'm yet to try and play them in the car still.

I installed all the necessary programs and drivers, created an .xml file (for generic American version), transferred it to phone, tried SE Update Service, no go. Says I already have the newest software. I tried creating a new .xml file, but this time using Western Europe instead of America. Still, Update Service says my software is new enough. Then I tried going back and creating a generic American .xml and using Update Service to reinstall my OS, but that only reinstalled the old and customized AT&T OS which is what I'm trying to get rid of. So my questions are: 1) I was sort of reluctant to debrand in the first place, but what is the worst thing that can happen if debranding fails? 2) Is there some other CDA number I can use (instead of America/W. Europe) and still be able to use my phone with my service provider? Perhaps Central or Eastern Europe?

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy Mum bought a Sony Ericsson C510 which has an unsightly "Tesco Mobile" logo on the right softkey. On the first night, I took to 'debranding' by dumping a custom_upgrade.xml in the phone's ROM using A2 uploader and then running Sony Ericsson updater so it fetched a normal firmware ROM (Western Europe C6A, 1209-4774). Afterwards the signal strength was abysmal so I tried a UK custom CDA then finally just went back to the TESCO CDA... (there's however no way of me knowing if it's the exact same CDA though, it was listed on A2 CDA generator). It was showing full-strength for a while - overnight it's back to abysmal strength. There's a chance it was like this before - though I recall seeing it on full bars when she'd just got it out the packaging. Now I'm really unsettled that I've screwed her new phone. Doesn't help that I was like "Dad, I updated the software on Mum's phone and now..." he was displeased as he remembers my motorola modding days. Ofcourse I didn't dare mention that I fiddled with the way it updated. Is it possible I'm just noticing this now? The CDA just changes the region/branding of the firmware SUSE fetches, right. View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently debranded my C905a and I want to know if anyone knows for a fact that if by doing so I have reduced my phone's ability to mainain a decent reception signal. If I remeber correctly, I had the same problem before I debranded. I've called Sony Ericsson about the low reception strength and they told me that it was a network problem. I know that is not true b/c before the C905a, I was using a Nokia 2610 (a cheapie until I could upgrade) and that phone always had a signal virtually anywhere and I can count on 1 hand how many dropped calls I had using that phone. I do live out in a semi-rural area but, my mother has a Nokia 6555 (I live w/ her) and she does not have the problem with dropped calls like I do. But, w/ the C905a, I have to put the phone on speaker 3/4 of the time b/c when I put the phone to my ear, it simply looses all reception. The closer to the city I get, the reception problem becomes less an issue.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi have downloaded fapn and configured the settings, now when i go on the application manager and find fmms, it only finds fmms 1.0.3, now iv downloaded this and followed this video off Internet http://www.Internet.com/watch?v=zardaw47lh8 on how to set it up, yet the version the person in the video downloads is 0.2.8-1 and has different setting to the one i find and download. iv tried sending an mms and always comes up with the error: - 2 name or service not known, please make sure ur apn settings r correct!
