HTC :: Clarification On Magic Vs Mytouch

I realize this is an old topic but I needed insights on the phone from anyone who has knowledge/experience. I'm a complete n00b to smart phones as the htc magic or mytouch would be my first one. Anyway I know the htc magic is the original european version of Tmobile's mytouch 3g. I've done a little research and heard that the Magic has more RAM, and a few other perks that the mytouch did not come with. I actually am thinking about buying an unlocked magic and using it here (washington DC) with t-mobile. Ultimately, my question is, does anyone have any feedback on using the magic on a tmobile network? Since vodafone is the provider for the Magic, would I be missing out on cool features available only on the European network? And would I be better off just sticking to the US tmobile version?

Can I use someone else's upgrade? Yes, this is called an "upgrade swap". AT&T will allow you to upgrade any line to receive a new phone. You can then activate that phone on any phone line you like. Apple is able to do this in store also, but it requires a bit more time since they have to call AT&T first. If you pre-order and recieve the phone by mail, you will need to contact AT&T to let them know that you will be activating the phone on another line."
My current situation:
I am on a family plan with a total of two lines. My line is not eligible until 7/23, so all I can get is "early upgrade pricing". My mom's line is currently eligible for "full upgrade pricing". I am planning on using my mom's upgrade to get an iPhone 4. I want to preorder the phone from Apple.com on the 15th, and hopefully receive it the afternoon of the 24th. From my understanding, the microSIM that ships with the phone will be programmed for the line whose upgrade was used. However, the iPhone Upgrade Guide makes it sound like I can call AT&T once I receive the phone (and before I activate it), and have AT&T switch the microSIM from my mom's line to mine. Is this possible?

i was downloading sum application or just going through my fone when i got a txt...it usually makes a noise .... but vibrated...no sound would work....or Internet...people wud kall me nd it wud jus vibrate..i had to restart my fone to make my sounds work nd to get Internet to work.....anybody know why my apps nd my sound didnt work until restart???

Just bought a HTC Magic, unlocked but has Vodafone branding on it, anyone have any idea how to debrand it? Is it even possible? Any info would be great, im both a HTC and an Andriod noob.

I've got a question about my htc magic. It is a rogers branded one, and I'm wanting to unlock it, and possibly use it with a Koodo Mobile SIM card. Two questions. First, where is a good place to look for getting my HTC Magic unlocked. I have no idea about online businesses or anything haha. And secondly, would my magic even work on the Koodo Network. I know i have to have the same bands or something, but i'm a little challenged when it comes to all of this.

I bought my son a mytouch 3g. He can not text on a qwerty kaypad nor can I. we both learned on a numeric t9. Is there an app to get the old school keypad for texting?

I am looking to make my mytouch _slide_ work in a docking station application for my car. My question is about the mytouch (non slide) audio adapter. Will the slide version still output audio thru the microusb port audio adapter that is intended for the non-slide version?

I attempted to root the phone and when i updated the rom it just sits at the htc hagic screen.I try to send over the recovery or any other rom thru hboot/fastboot and nothing is working. I have looked everywhere and cannot find any information. Has this happened to someone or does anyone know how to fix this?

Is there a way to input an extension number into a phone number in your contacts list?For example, in an old Nokia, I would have a number saved like 123-456-7890w4587..the "w" was a wait command. The number would dial and the screen displayed "press send to send 4587" (being the extension)Is there a way or command in the HTC Magic from Rogers to do this?

I have an HTC Magic, unlocked - now on ATT - when I touch the my account icon, it tries to go to Rogers...which is no longer available. How do I keep it from doing so. (...cant find a way to reset the home link?)

I have my MT3G unlocked to use any SIM I want. With the current SIM, the phone always starts up with a message saying for me to enter the PIN. Gets annoying. Is there a way to deactivate this?

I've noticed via search that I'm not the only one who sees issues with the clear plastic piece in the back cover of the Mytouch 3G. It won't stay clean and ruins camera pictures. The usual Q tip route doesn't seem to work; maybe there are scratches on this cover for some reason. Has anyone found a back cover replacement for the Mytouch 3G that has a bigger/better clear plastic piece over the camera lens?

I'm new to the Android world and settled on a Mytouch Slide from T-mobile. A week after buying this phone, I am running low on internal storage.The phone has 512 megs of storage, but even after I did a factory reset, I started with only 137 megs.I guess the operating system eats up most of that memory. T-mobile recommends always keeping 30 megs free, so the bottom line is I have just over 100 megs for apps.
What I don't understand is this.The phone came with an 8 gig microSD card, but I have read you can't store apps on this.So unless I am misunderstanding something here, I only have 100 megs for apps, but I have 8 gigs that are completely worthless unless I want to take tons of pictures or use my phone as an iPod. This can't be right, no company would be this stupid.So my question is, what am I doing wrong here? How am I supposed to manage my apps? I can't figure out how to move them to my SD card, and I don't even see a place on the marketplace where I can save a list of what I have downloaded for easy access later. The best I can figure, you have to constantly manage your apps, and then if you want one that you deleted, you have to search for it in the marketplace and download it again?
I just refuse to believe this is accurate. I've never had an iPhone before, but I have friends who do, and they never complain about running out of space for apps.

It seems that the slide has build issues. My first slide, the battery cover made a squeak sound from being held during a phone call. My second slide, when I slide up the screen for texting and press the back key (by the genius button) it squeaks like crazy. These squeaks are like 2 plastic being smashed together. Wondering if anybody else had such problems.

A few weeks back, my HTC Mytouch (Magic)'s headphone jack stopped working. I had called them up and had an RMA set up to have it fixed.In the box, I had included a typed note stating the problem, stating the phone is unlocked and that I would like it returned unlocked, and a simple request to remove dust from under the screen (since they would have the phone apart anyways)
Anyways, when I get the unit back, they changed motherboards (new IMEI number), re-locked the phone and didn't clean the dust out from under the screen. I called HTC support on Monday and explained how the phone was unlocked when sent in and because it is a different IMEI number than the one that I purchased, T-Mobile wouldn't supply the unlock code. The woman on the phone said it could take 48 hours for them to get back to me with the code.I called HTC and they said it could take up to 72 hours to get the code. Called yesterday. Was told that the guy had emailed the support team directly and I would have it by this morning. Called and they said it would take 7-14 days and it would be text-messaged to me. I'm really, really ****ed off. They didn't read the note I included and wrapped the phone in and they are taking forever to get the code to me. T-Mobile isn't any help because I had initially bought the phone and used it as a pre-paid. Closed the account there a few months back.

I am writing this as a last resort; consider it an act of desperation! For the last 4 hours or so I have been trying to flash my HTC Magic (Rogers). I had issues with the ADB finding my phone on Windows XP SP3, Windows 7 AND XP SP2. After using PDaNet it finally listed it in the cmd on the SP2 pc.Now: the next step was to turn the phone off (did that), then turn it back on in fastboot mode (no problem) and then send the recovery.img prompt. As soon as I did this? Device not found! So I go back and type in "adb devices" to see if it's still listed there and it isn't!
I don't understand?!! Why is this not working? I'm tearing my hair out over here after spending so much bloody time on this I just wish it would work.

I have been trying to use a Motorokr s9-HD bluetooth stereo headset to listen to music in the gym but my connection gets very choppy. Is this kind of interference a limitation of bluetooth in general or do I need a different headset?

make an app that can enable user to make a short cut to home screen for a selected picture or video from galery. so when i have somekinda video that i just downloaded from Internet (via my xperia ofcourse) and i want to show that video, i can do that more more quickly by just pressing that shortcut, instead of pressing menu, scrol, scrol, scrol, select galery, scrol, scrol, select videos, scrol, scrol, play,. uh.. feels like forever to just play a video ah?! but, if this app is there, i just unlock the screen, and just press the shortcut, and, wallaa.. video played...

I'm an EX iPhone user. Finally becoming fed up with my iPhone crashing, restarting on its own and taking 10+ minutes to turn back on I decided I'm done with it so a few weeks ago on eBay I ordered a used HTC Magic for Rogers(my provider). It has a broken battery cover so theres tape all over the back but that doesn't matter.What does matter is that every time I try to connect it with the MacBook Pro it connects just fine for about 1 minute then it disconnects so I'm either JUST getting one song finished uploading on the Magic or it fails when its just about finished. I tried restarting the Mac and the Magic and nothing is working.This is a huge problem for me because to play music was the whole reason I bought this phone because my iPhone would keep restarting while I was driving around and left me with nothing to listen to for around 10 minutes and now on this HTC Magic I cant even get songs on the thing so I'm yet to try and play them in the car still.

hmm i'm using HTC Magic with firmware version 1.5and i got a SMS message thread with around 1600+ messages, but i'm not able to delete it, everytime i try deleting it the phone will not respond and i have to restart my phone
