This past weekend, I went to my cabin for the first time with my new S6 Edge. During the drive, I had no Sprint (home) coverage, but there was roaming coverage.
My problem is this. Whenever I roamed, my WiFi would automatically kick in and connect to my GoPro (dash camera). Obviously, my GoPro WiFi does not provide any internet access, so my phone would loose all data connectivity, meaning I don't get text messages or e-mails (I use Google Hangouts, converts texts to data).
I would disable the WiFi on the cellphone from the swipe-down menu, but 1 minute later it would just reactivate itself and connect to my GoPro. I even watched it this by keeping the swipe-down menu open and watched the WiFi button go from gray (disabled) to yellow (enabled) without me touching anything. I eventually disabled the wifi on my GoPro, but this is not ideal because I had another device connected to keep an eye on what it sees. I obviously lost this other device when I turned the wifi off in the gopro.
The wifi would still keep enabling itself, but it would have no network to connect to, so it continued to use my roaming data as expected. However, since the wifi was on, it drained my battery faster, and it would still enable itself whenever I turned it off.
I did disable the Connection Optimizer, verified I had roaming data and voice enabled (Domestic), etc. Is there something else that would force the wifi to become enabled when I don't want it to?
I would also like to point out it does not do this when I am connected to Sprint's network, even if I don't have data on Sprint's network. It only does it when I am roaming.
I'm performing a simple mod for a mate of mine on his S6 (Sm-G920F), which he bought unlocked, but is using on EE. Wifi calling isn't enabled on non EE Firmwares, which has cropped up a few times on here, but it's easy enough to enable.
Basically I rooted the phone (no pingpong for it yet so used CF-Autoroot via odin), and I edited system/csc/others.xml to include the line - <CscFeature_Setting_SupportWifiCall>TRUE</CscFeature_Setting_SupportWifiCall> then enabled Wifi Calling in the phone app settings
This worked like a charm, sent my mate his phone back and all is right in the world...UNTIL he calls me saying that he want's to use a particular paid sport streaming service which detects his phone is rooted and blocks access.
Now I like a challenge, and it doesn't sound beyond the wit of man so I get the device back and try a few things...
1) Remove root via Super SU, rip the unrooted recovery and cache img files from the stock firmware, create my own md5 and flash via Odin.... Flashes but bootloops 2) Flash the stock firmware, create a flashable zip containing a modified others.xml, boot into recovery, flash update via adb... Flashes but bootloops 3) Download the stock EE firmware...Won't flash from Odin 4) Scour the web for a non rooted S6 ROM with Wifi Calling enabled.. So far no joy!
I reckon I must have missed something, any alternate way to enable Wifi Calling or an "Unroot" method that doesn't require a total wipe?
I have owned a galaxy s6 edge for three or four months now and for the last month or so, the location setting has been turning itself on. I have noticed that this only happens when I have some form of internet connection (4g or wifi).
I checked the location services menu and it says that no apps have recently requested my location so why this is turning on. I have also moved my location quick setting to the end of the scrollable quick settings so there is no possibility of turning it on accidentally.
I don't want it to know where I am (data protection and all that).
It worked fine until a could days ago and nowas it won't auto space with swype. I've checked make sure it's turned on but I can't figure out the problem
How to change the default app that gets launched when Bluetooth connects? It seems to always launch the built in music app which is definitely not what I want. Can I set this to Spotify or something else?
I am on Sprint and I am unable to send a MMS (group message) over wifi? I was chatting with Sprint text support and they are trying to tell me this is a limitation for Android phones. I know this is BS because my wife has a HTC M8. Am I doing something wrong? Are others experiencing this with their Edge S6?
Their solution is to send MMS messages over mobile data. I do not think it is acceptable to have to toggle between mobile and wifi to send group messages. I did test and the group/MMS messaging does work on Mobile data so this is purely limited to my wifi being an issue...
I've found my wifi connection at home to be dropping non-stop, and then immediately reconnecting. It's only happening on my S6 edge. Even though my wife's phone (and my laptop) stay connected, I reset the router. Nothing. I also cleared my cache. Smart Network Switch has been off to preserve battery life.
Would rather not factory reset, but will if that's my only option.
I have troubles with Snap Chat, it only works on WiFi. I have a Galaxy S6 for Sprint. My chive app also closes out right away when I open it. Don't know if the problem is related or not.
There are certain apps (snapchat, Google play store) on my phone that will only work when mobile data is on or WiFi with airplane mode on. I would like to be able to use my WiFi at home without having to turn airplane mode on.
- My s6 Egde connects to wifi but no Internet connectivity, while 4G works without any issues.
- No problem from the Wifi end because I've another phone and it connects just fine over wifi.
I have hade som problems with my Wifi before using my Iphone that forced me to restart the wifi on my Iphone, but it worked when i did that.
I tried to restart my router, modem and phone wich made it work but not for long. So the issue is that it connects fine to the Wifi but i dont have any internet.
My Samsung Galaxy S6 is new and I am using a root wifi tether. It gets extremely hot (attached picture with CPU-Z with temperatures). Is this typical? Is this dangerous?
What should I try? Factory reset/turn in phone, or are there other things I should try? Or should I just deal with it.
I use Outlook to manage my blackberry emails while inthe States. Just arrived in Denmark and hotel has Wi Fi service. To access, I need to enter my hotel room number and my last name.
My iPhone 5 has stopped enabling WiFi connection to anything other than my home network. I have followed on line tips for resetting network connections etc. I have had the firmware replaced by the Apple geniuses but still have the same issue.
I am having a new problem with WiFi intermittently disconnecting. It seems to be happening after the screen has been turned off for a while--I turn it back on and the wifi is not connected--once I unlock the phone the wifi then automatically connects. It happens on both my home and work network, and not with any other devices. Haven't changed any settings recently. Tried to turn Smart Network Switch off but that didn't work. "Keep wifi on during sleep" is and has been set to "always".
Possibly related is that a similar thing is happening with Bluetooth. I only have Bluetooth on while driving, and I have noticed that the connection has been randomly disconnecting, and then I have to manually toggle Bluetooth back on and reconnect the phone to the car.
I just got a new Galaxy S6 edge but it doesn't remember the WiFi passwords that I enter. I have moved from my parents house and It dosnt remeber the password of my new house but it remembers my parents password. I had Galaxy s5 with the same problem. I sync. everything from my Galaxy s5.
My iPhone connects to my car with a USB/jack connector cable - the type that came with the car. Is there a way to have the iPhone (4S) automatically enable Bluetooth ONLY when I'm in the car and I hook up the phone, and to have it automatically disable Bluetooth when I disconnect and leave the car? The idea is that I will ONLY ever need/want Bluetooth active when in the car.
Similarly, is it possible to have the iPhone disable wifi when I'm away from my home wifi environment and enable it again when back home? I'm specifically looking for a solution that is automatic and that requires NO human intervention each time.
I can not get my galaxy s5 to automatically connect to 4G after being connected to wifi, the smart network switch is activated however it doesn't make any difference. the only way for me to reconnect to my network is to restart the device.
I'm a new android user. The problem I'm having is that when my wifi drops out or if I come home the Internet on my phone does not switch back from mobile data to wifi. I'm with bigpond and I have put the password into my phone and I don't need to put the password in each time but when I go to wifi settings it says sign in required and I press connect and the wifi turns on. As soon as I come home or the Internet drops out it switched back to 3G and doesn't connect back to wifi unless I do what I mentioned above.
The advanced setting on the wifi are Proxy-none Ip settings DHCP Signal strength- very strong Security wpa2 psk
I also have the smart network switch toggled to off. I have reset my telstra router.
I've wasted a lot of my mobile data this week before I realised that when I left the house or the net dropped out my phone was staying on 3G and not switching back to wifi the way my iPhone and every other phone I've owned did.
basically my phone is not connecting to mobile data after wi-fi connection is lost or manually disconnected. This is not always happening but once it happens the only way to bring back mobile data is by restarting the phone or manually toggling mobile data on and off in settings. Once it connects to mobile data it'll work for a while but then after being connected on WI-FI for a while it won't go back to mobile data on its own.
My phone will no longer automatically connect to saved WiFi networks. It knows they're there, because if I go to Settings -> WiFi, it shows up in the list as a "saved" one. Tapping on it and selecting "connect" does nothing. I have to turn off the WiFi and turn it back on, and it will then automatically connect.
Additionally, WiFi will not stay off. If I'm some place I don't want it to connect to WiFi, I turn it off so that I don't get messages that networks are available (specifically when I'm driving, it's really annoying to deal with that over Waze).
I've got a Sprint GS5, running stock (not rooted), on 5.0. No updates available for the phone. It does this on every WiFi network I have saved (home, school, and school apartment, among others). I've also tried turning Smart Switch off and on, it makes no difference for either issue.
I set my connection preference to: Wi-Fi Preferred. Recently I notice, every time I leave my office or area with wifi, my network coverage doesn't change to EDGE automatically. Sometimes I get edge, sometimes nothing at all (either "X" or OFF). I've to turn my BB off for few seconds, turn it back on, then I get EDGE. Does anybody know why this happens?
I'm a new iPhone operator and will never consider another smartphone!
My question is what is appropriate operation of 3G, wifi and edge network?
I get 3G in my area but I have been doing some research and as a result always keep edge on? That it's good for phone usage and text type applications like gmail chat and email? That if you are wanting to surf the Internet 3g and wifi is faster?
Basically the research that I have found is to keep edge on at all times and use 3g or wifi if you want faster results. Also keeping iPhone on edge network uses less battery?
I like my e73 that i got a part of t-mobile upgrade with full price option. i like the fact that it quickly connected to the web etc usnig WiFi inside my house - i had some hiccups connecting at other places and checking my gmail using WAP. but a bigger problem, when i head out of my house - my e73 phone goes from wifi (pink hotspot tmobile circle) to 3g - i live in dallas fort worth metro area. i see many bars (horizontal lines stacked) to show a good 3g reception. after i have crossed the street corner, my cell phone is not able to go through the contacts book to call someone. as soon as i reboot the cell ph, it is all normal. making contacts, other folders run on memory card memory, did not fix it. i have hte latest patches - all got thro wifi.
