Galaxy S6 :: How To Tell If Phone Is Encrypted
May 20, 2015
I connect to my employer's Exchange server which requires Encryption and when I set up the Outlook app on my S6 I thought it asked me if I wanted to encrypt my phone now or wait until later. I thought I chose later but I have not been reminded.

Is there any possible way to undo this? I realize this is added security, but I really would like to go back to using a pattern to unlock?

I've been told by a few users that once the Lollipop update was released on Rogers for the Galaxy S5, they have been prompted to de-encrypt their devices.if there is any way to circumvent this 'requirement'.

if you have an ecrypted Samsung Galaxy S5 you already know that once you've encrypted it your only option for a screen lock is to enter a secure password. This gets annoying fast. When you want to access your phone quickly on the go it can be difficult to unlock it with any speed. Well I've come up with a way to get past the password lock screen with the same speed as a password and consistently quicker than the finger print scanner unlock.
What I've done and I've included on how to do it yourself instructions below. I've set my password to be one of my hot key options on my Samsung keyboard. I've also shortened my delay for the long press but how to do that isnt included here. (hopefully with screen shots we'll see first time attempt at posting pics here)
Doing this will allow you to quickly get by your lock screen and still have an encrypted device.
**NOTE** This is not a substitute to remember your password. Know it regardless of this being setup or not.
**NOTE** If you have auto space turned on (factory default setting) you will need to press backspace 1 time to delete the added space or you will receive an incorrect password error message.
Here's how to do it:
1. Enter the pull down menu and click settings.
2. Tap Language & Input.
3. Now click on the samsung keyboard settings icon.
4. Next if turn on the my hot keys icon.
5. Enter your password under any number to long press to have it typed.
*Don't forget if you have auto space on you will need to press backspace 1 time to delete the space or your password will not work.

VZW HTC One m7 that I am considering encrypting but since L is coming down the pipeline, I want to make sure I can get that (eventual) OTA. Would encrypting my phone still allow me to receive the update when the time comes?

I have an xperia Z1 compact, encrypted (due to work), and with an SD of 32 GB. My SD is now full and I want to change it to a new SD card of 64GB but if I plug the SD to the computer I cannot copy the files so I cannot transfer the files to the new card. Additionally I am unable to do a backup of my cellphone from my PC.

So, T-mo finally released Lollipop last night. I've downloaded via Wifi this morning and attempted to update. The update failed with no reason given. My phone is encrypted and it didn't ask to unencrypt before applying the update, so I assume this is the reason it failed. So, installed the latest PC Companion on my Windows 7 laptop, it tells me that I'm on the latest version (connected via USB)... so... what now?

As the title states, I flashed the lastest Cataclysm (stable) and ElementalX kernel(also TWRP asked me that SuperSU wasn't present and to flash it so I did, that might've messed it up), phone booted up fine and set my fingerprint password and everything. I decided to reboot my phone and the phone encrypted itself and now the ROM is force closing and I can't do anything. It asks for a password every time the recovery starts up (I tried default_password, no go) and TWRP won't let me decrypt.
So my question is, is there a way to decrypt without erasing userdata? Would really like to keep my internal storage. I have lots of important pictures and files.

I think disk encryption it's an excellent feature. I use it in my laptop, but the main problem is: how can I read the encrypted disk in another environment? I have my E71 8GB MicroSDHC encrypted by the phone. it works excellent, but there's a catch: E71 it's USB 2.0 but doesn't mean it supports High-Speed. It only supports Full-Speed so the transfers must be sticked at 1MB/sec. Obviously, after encrypting my SDHC, I cannot extract from the cellphone and try to read in a computer, like I did before. My SDHC is Class 6, so the 15MB/sec transfer is wasted. Anyone knows a software/driver/whatever-you-know that I could use to read the encrypted memory in a PC?

I forgot my password to my blackberry and it was security wiped, however before the last attempt I removed my sd card. I have now put my sd card back in and it is asking me for an encryption password. So basically asking for the password that I forgot. Is there any way I can access the sd card as it has very important pictures on there?

I have recently upgraded my Pearl 3G 9100 from OS5 to OS6, and now I can't seem to decrypt my encrypted files for use on my computer. Under OS5, if I plugged the phone into the computer and engaged media transport mode, all the files that I copied onto the phone would be automatically encrypted and all the files that I copied off the phone would be automatically decrypted. I would also be given the option to have video files converted into a form the phone could play, Under OS6, when I connect the phone to the computer I get two options for data transfer, USB Drive and Media Sync, but neither of these modes seems to automatically decrypt files that I copy from my phone to my computer. All of the files that I have tried to copy off my phone under either mode are unviewable on the computer. Is there something I'm missing? If I can't find a way to accomplish the same automatic en/decryption and media conversion that was possible under OS5's media transport mode, under OS6 then I will have to downgrade back to OS5 again.

I was wondering if the messages that I send to another contact using Blackberry messenger are encrypted or not? I was searching for this online and all I could find was that the blackberry messenger is a wrapper around BB PIN-to-PIN messaging. PIN messages are supposed are not encrypted from what I could find online - which would mean that BBM messages are not too ..

My employer has just upgraded my phone from Blackberry Bold to an iPhone. Now, I want to transfer all my pictures and files from my old BB to the Iphone, however I am being thwarted because the BB has a security policy enforced which is encrypting all the files, so when I try to copy them over using a USB cable all I get is .REM files.

Been waiting for the encrypted filesystem support so that the Pro would meet requirements for corporate email since I got my Pro in Dec. Upgraded to 3.8.7 when it came out, and turned on device and SD encryption. (OK, the oddities came out a questions. But these are more rhetorical - not really needing an answer)Why per-file encryption and not device encryption? Why leave old files or those copied from PC unencrypted, and only encrypt new files created on the phone?Given the mix of encrypted and unencrypted files, why no method for seeing their state or converting to/from encryption? Why encrypt files but retain the original filename, so you can't tell by looking at a file in the filesystem whether it has been encrypted or not?Seems like a pretty marginal half-a$%ed encryption implementation. How do I access a decrypted copy of the files from the PC USB interface? USB Mass Storage mode mounts the sd card with a drive letter, and lets me see the files, but in their encrypted form. It basically mounts the SD card as a 'dumb' usb drive. (If you view a '.txt' file, you see the encrypted binary)
USB PC Mode makes the droid look like a music player to the PC - you see a 'droid' device which has media syncing and such. I believe that this show the unencrypted view of the files, since it is being interpreted and exported through the OS (wow, that was a horrible explanation). BUT, PC Mode only appears to show certain media file types (mp3, jpeg, etc) and their associated directories, so most of the directories and files are totally inaccessible. (even renaming junk.xls to junk.jpeg and putting it in the 'downloads' directory does not seem to work).Dropbox, or email, or some other indirect solution is not acceptable, since the whole idea of encryption is to keep my unencrypted files out of the porous cloud. Plus, it would be annoying and awkward.
Does the Droid use a standard encryption algorithm like AES/256, and can we get/find/see the encryption key on the phone, such that I could use USB Mass Storage mode and a PC-side decrypter with that key to see the file?Alternatively, is there a way to make USB PC Mode show other files types and directories? Hypothesize it could be a rooted phone and I am totally comfortable poking around the linux underpinnings of the phone.

I have the much reported "memory card corrupt" error after upgrading the E71 to the latest firmware. I tried to look all over how to deal with this, most of the answers seem to be oriented towards trying to recover the data. I don't want, it, I just want to use the card. its encryption says its on, tried to unencrypt with the password pk5 file I had, accepts no password I have. so I tried all the suggested ways to format it - from the phone (doesn't work, it says "memory card in use" which isn't true, how can it be in use if its corrupt? I then select "continue anyway" then it just flashes quickly as if it formatted it and then does nothing) or from a PC with a card reader, tried several readers but always shows up the drive letter but when I try to format it in windows it says "There is no disk in drive X" must I throw away this 8GB MiniSD just because I upgraded firmware?

I have a corporate Bold 9700 that I want to swap out its existing 2GB card with a new 8GB card. I have files and pictures and whatnot on my 2GB card that I would like to carry over to the 8GB. Turning encryption off is not an option as the security policy is managed by the corporate office. And, of course, copying the files to my desktop, then putting them onto the 8GB card doesn't work either. Is there a backup option for the media card or something in DTM? I looked all over for it and came up with nothing. I have not wiped out my 2GB card and it is perfectly fine in the phone now; all files intact. I just want to upgrade to an 8GB card. How do I do that?

I am using Gingerbread's encryption feature. I took a bunch of photos on vacation, went to transfer them to my computer via USB cable, and was dismayed to find they came across as "unknown files". They had the correct name and jpg extension, but I couldn't view the photos. This is only true of photos I have taken since encrypting the device. tried disabling the encryption feature, and doing it again, with the same result. What am I doing wrong? How can I view my own files, while still using encryption? Also, where is the encryption feature documentation located?
