View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Galaxy S5 was bought new and boxed on August 6th. After 5 weeks it started playing up as the ringtone would play over and over with every new notification (FB, Twitter etc) meaning I had to turn the phone off. A reboot and Zedge app delete sorted this out however now I find I cannot sent text messages but I can receive them. I can also post on all social media but not send a text.
I have twice restored the phone to factory settings which solves the problem for about a week, then it returns. I'm on 4G with Unlimited Texts and I'm not over my allowance. To date I have tried the following which didn't work....
* Switched the phone off then back on
* Installed the latest software
* Switched to Flight Mode then back again
* Checked the text message centre number (+447782000800) is correct
* Restored phone to factory settings (twice)
* Removed WhatsApp
* Removed all music and video media
I managed to get my text service up and running (so far) by clearing the message cache. Here is how to do it on Samsung S5 APPS - SETTINGS - scroll down to APPLICATIONS - APPLICATION MANAGER - scroll across the screen to the left to the 'ALL' menu - scroll down to MESSAGES - CLEAR CACHE. Finally re-start your phone to allow changes to take effect.
Im planning to do a factory reset but I can't see anywhere how to back up text messages.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI really screwed up and had to do a factory reset so I lost my apps and all my settings. The only thing that I see is the Memo app. The Restore has recovered most of my data. What's missing is all the memos that contain a ton of important info. What do I need to do to recover the data? The data was not restored through a restore from backup.

My quite new (3 weeks) S6 did a factory data reset on its own. It happened while I was driving for 2hrs on a highway, with the phone resting on the empty passenger seat, not touching the phone. Lost all data, all apps, all pics. Very frustrating. After 3 days of research (visiting Verizon store, calling Verizon, calling Samsung, internet research), the possible cause may the following:
About 2-3 hours before driving, the phone did a scheduled automatic update, which took more than 30 min to complete. This all happened in a signal-weak area. Tech support said, although the update completed, it may have had some flaws, and when the phone detects that, it may resort to a factory data reset to avoid greater functionality problems.
Unfortunately, the end result included functionality problems, most notably that the phone calendar only synched partially (!!) with my desktop Outlook calendar, and promptly I missed two important appointments.
When a scheduled update comes your way, make sure you backup all contacts, photos, data etc, before allowing an update to perform.
I upgraded my iPhone to the newest version (5.1.1) I believe. iTunes backed my Phone up and once everything was completed, I restored it but all my stuff got deleted such as Photo's, Apps, Text Messages. Contacts came back after I logged in to my account.

I did a factory reset (not a three finger salute), and now the Ovi Store just cycles through the loading window. The little circles spin around and around -- with no end.

I picked up my phone to make a call and noticed it looked VERY different, different splash screen, apps lined up differently, etc.
When I went to look for an app, I noticed they were all gone. Somehow, my phone reset itself and I lost everything -- all installed apps, phone lists, everything.
Is there anyway to go back to a state that existed before this? FWIW, I live in Guangzhoung...and the only thing I did that was even remotely different was I reloaded the phone (china unicomm).

So I updated to Marshmallow from Lollipop via fastboot on my Mac. Upon installing SuperSU and rebooting, I got stuck on the boot animation. Cache wipe and factory reset - still no go, and after the factory reset, I lost TWRP. I tried installing it again only to receive a black screen when rebooting into recovery mode. Tried another factory reset and reinstalled Marshmallow - same issue. I have contacted Google and there's nothing they can do.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThere's been several folks recommending a factory reset after an OS upgrade. As an editorial comment, that shouldn't be required with a "mandatory" upgrade.
When you do a factory reset, doesn't it revert back to the version of Kit Kat that the phone came with? If so, you still have to upgrade to Lollipop.So what's the difference between the upgrade I just did and a factory reset followed by an upgrade anyway?
My boss has a GS5 and yesterday evening he was on his phone and all of a sudden it turned off. He didn't know what was going on but said it took an hour to boot back up. When it finally came back on it had done a factory reset and cleared his micro SD card. .

View 2 Replies View RelatedI did a full factory reset but am not seeing any different results. In fact, I think that my battery drainage is a bit higher than normal. I added all my apps and tweaked the settings last night. It DID tell me that my battery should last over a day and a half (which it never has before) but that is quickly falling today. I can post some screen shots but I really am not sure if it is just the apps and way I use my phone or if the phone is defective...
View 11 Replies View RelatedI had some issues with my snapchat notifications not showing up on my task bar and didn't know if/when i had new snaps. So i did some research and tried everything besides a factory reset. Unfortunately nothing worked so i had to resort to doing the factory reset. After that my notifications worked like normal. The only issue I"m having is when i add my facebook in the accounts and click sync nothing shows in my contact list.
I have quite a few people on my personal contact and fb contact that i enjoy merging their respective information with both profiles for said people. How to resync them while the phone says it's already synced. I've also tried the "show only facebook contacts" and it says i have no contacts to display.
How do I back up my phone prior to doing a factory reset?
What, if anthing, can't be backed up?
What other procedures would you recommend prior to doing a factory reset?
My phone is so screwy I suspect only a factory reset will straighten it out.
