Galaxy S6 :: Backing Up Phone Before Factory Reset
Jun 6, 2015
If I use smartswitch to back up my phone, will it restore my phone the way it was after I do a factory reset? Or will I have to manually restore my settings or home screen or anything like that?
I need to factory reset my wife's Iphone 5. I followed the instructions that suggested I sync via Itunes. In the process of doing so the sync acted funny during the sync. So I repeated the process. Now my wife's phone has pictures back on it that she had uploaded to you Macbook Pro to create space on her phone. It also downloaded back to the phone all the categories she created on her Macbook Pro for her pictures.
Before I factory reset her phone I need to be confident I backed up her data correctly. Especially her contacts and most importantly her pictures.
My boss has a GS5 and yesterday evening he was on his phone and all of a sudden it turned off. He didn't know what was going on but said it took an hour to boot back up. When it finally came back on it had done a factory reset and cleared his micro SD card. .
Updated my phone when Lollipop came out. A lot of stuff started happening. My battery gets hot, battery drains fast, the GPS fails, and other odd things.
So I reset my phone and reseated my SIM card. Restarted my phone and now it won't reactivate on the Verizon network.
I recently factory reset my S5 and restored it. Ever since the phone can become unresponsive. It randomly goes to a black screen the multi window light and back up light both come on as if it is still powered up. Sometimes it comes back on but mostly I have to pull the battery. This happens quite a few times a day so annoying.
I have a few problems with my galaxy 5s and I want to reset the factory settings but I want to back up my app data first. Is there a way to do this? I know I can just reinstall each app but I want to save the app data first, if it is possible.
My wife and I just spent 2 weeks on vacation where she was happily snapping away millions of pics. She bought a new case for her Verizon S5, and in the process of swapping cases, somehow managed to factory reset her phone. So all of our vacation photos are gone. Her cloud storage is full, so nothing from the last 6 months was recoverable from the cloud.
My questions is, is there a way to recover photos from a factory reset? I'll root it, or anything else I need to do.
I am another dissatisfied user who just upgraded from 4.4 to lollipop. I am having problems with the autowiz prompt coming up often like other users, how to back up this configuration before i do a factory reset. If I backup with kids, will I lose anything we. I recover the backup onto a fresh lollipop system?
my phone has been playing up and generally malfunctioning lately. It seems to work fine for a day or so before freezing, and either rebooting itself or forcing me to manually reboot it using power + volume down. This seems to send it into a bootloop where it generally freezes during the Samsung animation with the pulsing squares. This sequence continues with me manually rebooting, also trying to boot to safe mode and to recovery and after various attempts, i successfully got into recovery without it freezing on the blue android.
I then decided to factory reset as a last option, having looked around on forums for solutions. However, I now do not know what to do as it seems to have frozen during the factory reset. I dont have screenshots but the script reads as follows :
My quite new (3 weeks) S6 did a factory data reset on its own. It happened while I was driving for 2hrs on a highway, with the phone resting on the empty passenger seat, not touching the phone. Lost all data, all apps, all pics. Very frustrating. After 3 days of research (visiting Verizon store, calling Verizon, calling Samsung, internet research), the possible cause may the following:
About 2-3 hours before driving, the phone did a scheduled automatic update, which took more than 30 min to complete. This all happened in a signal-weak area. Tech support said, although the update completed, it may have had some flaws, and when the phone detects that, it may resort to a factory data reset to avoid greater functionality problems.
Unfortunately, the end result included functionality problems, most notably that the phone calendar only synched partially (!!) with my desktop Outlook calendar, and promptly I missed two important appointments.
When a scheduled update comes your way, make sure you backup all contacts, photos, data etc, before allowing an update to perform.
I am not very well versed in computerspeak , and have never had to back up anything on my phone. I am having no luck in diagnosing a problem with my bluetooth(won't turn on) , Samsung has suggested doing a Hard re set ,in hopes of fixing the problem. I would like to back up ALL of my data , contacts , apps , texts , etc. , but have no idea on how to go about it. I did a search here and became even more confused ! Will I be backing up to a pc , if so will I need a physical connection , will I backup with KIEs , and again , how is this done , and what , if any apps should I get to make my life easier , by the way after this , I want to update the OS as I am using gingerbread.
There's been several folks recommending a factory reset after an OS upgrade. As an editorial comment, that shouldn't be required with a "mandatory" upgrade.
When you do a factory reset, doesn't it revert back to the version of Kit Kat that the phone came with? If so, you still have to upgrade to Lollipop. So what's the difference between the upgrade I just did and a factory reset followed by an upgrade anyway?
I have done backup all of my data...I have to factory reset my device..my doubt is when I restore the data... is my private mode pics are also restored or not.
Is it necessary to factory reset after lollipop ota? i have not been having issues and no battery drain. Yes there is a little bit stutter here and there but no app crashes, battery drain or my device getting hot.
I have rooted using PingPong, can I unroot and receive OTA updates without Factory Reset? Also how can I find which firmware my phone has an download it via Samfirmware?
Is there any way to save sms and MMS messages before a factory reset? I usually use mybackup pro but wasn't wanting to use a backup program due to hearing your battery life may be better if you don't use any backup programs or sign into Google to download apps.
I did a full factory reset but am not seeing any different results. In fact, I think that my battery drainage is a bit higher than normal. I added all my apps and tweaked the settings last night. It DID tell me that my battery should last over a day and a half (which it never has before) but that is quickly falling today. I can post some screen shots but I really am not sure if it is just the apps and way I use my phone or if the phone is defective...
I had some issues with my snapchat notifications not showing up on my task bar and didn't know if/when i had new snaps. So i did some research and tried everything besides a factory reset. Unfortunately nothing worked so i had to resort to doing the factory reset. After that my notifications worked like normal. The only issue I"m having is when i add my facebook in the accounts and click sync nothing shows in my contact list.
I have quite a few people on my personal contact and fb contact that i enjoy merging their respective information with both profiles for said people. How to resync them while the phone says it's already synced. I've also tried the "show only facebook contacts" and it says i have no contacts to display.
So about a week ago my phone dies and I put it on the charger... like 60 secs later I try and start it back up. I was also working on my laptop and used one hand to start the device. Once it booted back up it was factory reset. Asking me to set up my phone... I'll my pics and music were gone.
I may have been pressing the vol up or down while holding the power button because I was using one hand and I can see how easy that can happen but I doubt I went through all the steps to factory reset w/o knowing it.
I purchased a brand new LG V10 on EBay. I received the phone today, the phone won't perform a factory reset. Every time I try to factory reset the phone, the phone reboot and I receive the following message:
