Eseries / Communicators :: Unable To Format SD Card After Encryption Error?
Apr 2, 2012I encrypted my memory card, worked ok for months. Today I showed a buddy of mine the encryption application, which asked if the memory card should be encrypted (encryption was already enabled). No Keyfiles/Passwords where asked for. The Phone crashed after that (hard reset after 5 hours). So the card is now encrypted, but there appears to be no valid key file on the device... So we have the usual issue: encrypted card, no keyfile or password.My problem is different in the following aspect: I don't want to recover any data - I just want to reformat the card and use my last (weekly) backup. However the phone won't let me do this. The following steps were taken to solve this issue without success:A complete Restore using the PC Suite does not restore any memory card contents or keys. The memory card stays "corrupted", encrypted and unwritable."Format Memory Card" says "card corrupted". Upon issuing the format request it says "Another application is using this memory card. Proceed" (which I confirm, as I suppose the crypto driver grabs the device) and then the program does nothing. It returns to the starting screen with "memory card corrupted".ReEnabling Encryption with a different key keeps saying that "No keys found", even after setting a new one. Sidenote: Even with a new key the card can't be formatted, as described above.The Phone was reset (using *#7370#, the 3+*+Green never worked on my phone) to factory defaults. Still the card was correctly recognized as encrypted and remained unusable as described above.Using a PC to format the memory card fails, as only the first 512kB appear to be writable (using dd under linux to write sequential zeroes). Despite writing this zero-dump, the phone still recognizes the card as encrypted, which implies that data on the card survived that crude zeroing attempt. Interestingly enough I can create a FAT32 Filesystem on these 512KB (not quick format), which appears to have no effect on the phone considering the card encrypted...The card is ok, since it was only removed after the problem occured. This must be an encryption issue. I suspect that the "Read Only" Password was set on the SD Card (hardware side, not E71 software) and hence all read/write operations are declined by the card.Is there any way to actually reset the encryption state of this card? As I previously said: I am not trying to recover any data, I just want a cleanly formatted microSD card..

Feb 29, 2012I did a hard reset on my phone today as my phone would freeze at times but it seems that it has given me new problems.Firstly, Everytime I restart the phone, the system error message comes up on the homescreen, I would click ok but it comes up 3 or 4 more timesSecondly, I cannot access my contacts at all, whether I try accessing it from the menu or from a shortcut I have on the homescreen.I have tried to solve this myself...I have re-installed the phone software after doing the hard reset, I have restored my phone from the backup I did, and I have rebooted the phone a few times but I still get the same thing.The software is Symbian Anna, I understand that there is a Belle update but it is not yet available for the phone that is on the network that I am on (which is network Three)
I have had this phone since september 2011 and it is under warranty. This is the first time I have encountered a problem.Other than that, everything else works fine; I can install apps and make calls and use the internet etc. I just want to get rid of the system error message, and have access to contacts without having to send the phone off for repair!

Recently, my sister and I swapped phones and kept our respective sim cards (which are on the same network provider), my former phone accepts the sim card and she is able to send and recieve texts, and phone calls. The problem being that when she tries to make calls (from my former phone) there sometimes is no dial tone. I was told that the phone had saved data from my sim card and needed to be reformatted, is this the case?

May 17, 2012I wasn't able to back up all my information via PC Suite as the connection kept going, so I backed it all up to my memory card. The phone is now working OK (including connecting to PC Suite) but I can't see the option to restore the information (calendar and contacts) from my memory card to my phone. I know it should be in File Manager, Memory Card, Options, but the option simply isn't there- I can either remove my memory card, or back up my phone to the memory card which as it has no information on it I don't want to do!

Nov 28, 2011I have just bough a Lexar 32GB class 10 Micro SD card that I am trying to use to replace the current 8GB class 4 card in my Nokia E72. I am trying to copy the data that is on the old card over to the new card. I have used the Nokia suite to make a backup and then resort that back up to the new card but then some of my apps are not there. I have also tried to copy the conents of the old card to the my computer using a card reader and then copy this to the new card (inclusing all hidden files, using Windows Explorer). This gets me more apps back but not everything. So, what is the best way to upgrade the memory card an keep all the data?

I just got my E71 about a month ago and already it's saying I have used over 2 of the 4gigs that came with the phone. Don't see how, but okay. I went and got a 16GB card. A Mobile microSDHC by SanDisk. First of all, I've been getting conflicting reports that this phone will not even accept a 16GB card. Second, are there any important Apps preloaded by Nokia on this pre-installed card that I need to worry about possibly losing. I bought a bluetooth connector for my laptop, a dual-ended usb for data transfer from phone to PC and I also have 30GB of SugarSync. No adapter came with the 16GB card I just bought, but I have an unopened 4GB card by same manufacturer that does have an adapter. If this is your prescribed method, can the 16GB card go in the 4GB adapter? I really don't want to lose anything on my phone, especially none of OVI Maps, which I heard part of might be on this 4GB card. But I don't want to lose the apps I paid for either. I can't switch much to the phone memory, I have only 55MB.

Aug 27, 2012I have this data dongle with a removable SIM card. Keep it plugged into the laptop all day long. At night, surfing the web is more convenient on the E7 than the laptop, and so I regularly turn off the E7, and replace the SIM card with the one I have in the dongle (haven't subscrived for a data plan on the SIM i use in the phone, cause i always have this laptop with me and paying for two data connections is an overkill, just need it for like 30 mins every night before I fall asleep). Don't really care about the dongle, i will throw it away if it breaks, it's not that expensive. But will removing the SIM card from the phone once every day damage the SIM card tray on the E7?

Nov 8, 2011Ok, so my E63's voice receiver had broken and i just bought a new E71. I had fully backed up my content on the E63 via the "Nokia Suite".
I then started up the new E71 and configured it, i removed my 8GB memory card from the E63 which was working perfectly and placed it into the E71, i go to encrypt the card on the E71 and receive this message " Key not matched to this memory card, memory card cannot be used ".I ignore the fact that i cannot acess my music on the memory card, so i restore my files from the E63 on the E71 via the Suite, i then receive the message that only 'part' of the backup was completed because it cannot fit the rest because there is no memory card or it is not in place. How do i receive my music via the memory card that was on the E63 and use the card on the E71 and finish the rest of my backup?
