BB Software :: Use Gmail But NOT The Enhanced Plung-in?
Jan 11, 2010
Is there a way to bypass using the Gmail enhanced plug-in? IE as a POP or just plain old IMAP? the Enhanced plug-in kills my battery big time as it runs all the time. I love the feature but it makes battery life a bit of drain ... yes much pun intended.

if the 9810 and OS7 have the Enhanced Gmail Plugin. I've just come back to BB after a couple of years wandering aimlessly in iOS and Android realms. Glad to be back but I'm jumping to 7 from about 4.6 and I've gone Google Apps since I left.
I understand that I'm going to lose some functionality, but can't seem to get anyone at ATT tech support to tell me if the Enhanced Gmail plugin is part of the device's software or not.
I've set up my Google Apps mail account in both the BB mail client and in the downloaded Gmail client. I get more functionality in the Gmail client, with the ability to download labels. But what I am looking for is to find out if the Enhanced Gmail Plugin will allow me to 'move' an inbox message to a label and that it will automatically remove it from the inbox? This is the only way to come home from a 9810-only equipped business trip and not find hundreds of old, already dealt with messages on your gmail account.
Trying to desperately avoid using the Gmail Enhanced Blackberry plugin, ugh so annoying. I've resent the service books.I see the gmail account normal for a sec, than it reverts to the ghetto enhanced account. Can anyone tell me how to use the normal, non enhanced account? Funny as I have 3 gmail accounts on my Bold 9700, and only suffers from the enhanced plugin.Such an inconvenience.
Just got a 9930 and it doesn't seem to include the Gmail plugin. I setup Gmail successfully through BIS, but the menu features are not available, and the plugin does not show up in Options. Is it available for the 9930, and if so, how do I install it? If not, when will it be released?
My company recently migrated to gmail.I followed the instructions to get the Gmail Enhanced Plug-in on my Bold 9700 and I can't seem to see the new features (ie conversations, labels, archive etc).
All I did was remove the work email and re-add it as per the instructions.I tried it with my personal gmail account and it works, but just for my personal account. The only difference I can see is my work email address does not have a @gmail.com, it uses @mycompanyname.com instead.
Is there any way to get Threaded SMS & Enhanced Gmail options in Messages?I am forced to have separate inboxes to get the better features in the current setup and there are no shortcuts to get to the MMS & SMS inbox or Enhanced gmail inbox from Messages making it even more of a pain.
I cannot get the Gmail Enhanced Plugin to work on my Tour 9630 w/ Verizon.
My Gmail account sends and receives messages fine, but I can't get any of the extra features included with the plugin. I have tried many different setup procedures but can't seem to get it to work.I've tried deleting my Gmail account from the Verizon BIS website, and then adding it again. That didn't work.
I tried deleting my Gmail account, uninstalling the plugin, resetting my BB, installing the plugin, and re-adding my Gmail account. That also didn't work.If it helps I'm using the v5.0 OS.

Ok, so I've searched and haven't found what I am looking for... if any of you use Gmail with the plugin on your BB maybe you can help.
1- I can recieve/send from my BB but in the Gmail folder on my BB (the envelope with a globe thingy) I only see what I recieve. Is there a way to see everything like with my hotmail, yahoo and BB accounts?
2- How do I set up filters to recieve only personal emails using the BIS website? I entered the add filters and selected not to push emails exception Personal and didn't recieve anything.
am seriously annoyed with the state of my inbox and the threading by subject is the culprit.Have visited every forum and have tried everything that's been posted to no avail.Would very much appreciate it if anyone could tell me how to remove the gmail enhanced email plugin from my 9700.
i upgraded my bb software to 5.0 with all updates to now and still dont have enhanced threaded sms function. Ive wiped my software, got service books (whatever this means), and reinstalled and re updated the software, still no luck.
My curve 8520 came with the plug in and when I try to download gmail app, it just incorporates into the e-mail folder. What I would prefer is what I had on my old phone, the G-mail "envelope" icon so that when I read my gmail (where all my e-mail goes) inbox I have all the features (star, label, etc.).
To accomplish this, should I remove the plug in via DM and then download the G-mail app from the web?
My Photon 4 G does not sync calendar, contact, Gmail with my company Gmail account. I believe that it just stopped syncing last week and I believe that it was following a Motorola update, but cannot say for sure. Under Data Delivery, both Background Data and Data enabled are checked green. However, this is interesting because Email and corporate sync is grayed out on that screen. When I go to Account, checking the sync options is not possible, but I can do a manual sync. Please note, at one time, these options to sync Contacts, Gmail and Calendar were available. I've pulled the batter. I really do not want to reset to factory default. Suggestions? (Please note this is a company Gmail account, not just regular Gmail.)
Went through and set up my gmail through the email set up wizard. Used these exact steps: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB03087
Issue is I'm not seeing any of my existing / read messages on my phone. After set up I had zero messages in my blackberry email inbox. How do I go about getting these message in my blackberry email?
I don't know if my thread title makes sense but basically what I would like to know is what are the advantages of downloading the Gmail app vs just setting up a Gmail account through my BIS (Email Settings/Add Account)? My main objective here is wireless contacts sync. I have read a lot of negative feedback regarding Gmail on a BlackBerry but I will not really even be using this for email all to often, although I will from time to time. What I have done is just added my new Gmail account through the native BlackBerry email setup and then downloaded Google Sync. I downloaded the Gmail app but I didn't really like the UI and I like to have all 3 of my email accounts go into the same folder.
When I get an email I like how the blackberry automatically opens up the email application if I pull it out of the holster. The only problem is that it pulls up the Messages inbox and not my gmail account inbox.Any way to fix this or do anything about it? I have the gmail enhanced plugin if that makes a difference. Also on a totally unrelated note is there a way to search the gmail server from the gmail plugin app?
Does the native HTC Mail app in Sense UI, push gmail? Or any other IMAP connections that support the IDLE command? Or does only the native gmail app push gmail? I ask, because I have multiple email accounts on my phone, gmail, hotmail, etc.. gmail is on the native gmail app, which is currently pushing... but the others are in the HTC Mail app.
I'd rather have 1 app for everything, instead of bouncing between.. IMAP is IMAP.. which the HTC Mail app supports (for moving to and from folders).. but if it doesn't push using the IDLE command (like gmail app does).. then I'm stuck where I am.
First of all I'd like to know if the data i send thru bis using the phone's mail configuration is encrypted till server, as far as i understand the route is blackberry ==> Provider ==> BIS ==> google servers ==> BIS ==> Provider ==> blackberry, now, are my password and mails encrypted during all this? I mean is it all encrypted even after it passed thru bis?
Second, I'd like to know what gmail app does (m.google.com/mail) regarding encryption, i see in its settings "always use secure connections" that should mean its all encrypted according to google policies right?Last, if i used the gmail app (google's) would i still need a BIS subscription or just an internet connection would be fine?
Reason i want to know is that Blackberry's mail may be a little more comfortable for me due to slow connection but i'd still want to be safe, only thing i noticed is that BIS logs into my gmail account (pretty normal tho).I see this has been discussed in the past but there was never a definitive answer and i think (not tried though) that packet sniffing wouldnt bring me one either.
My Gmail app. for my LG G3 is not working, when I click on it it will ask me to add my email address and it say that this account already exists.I am able to enter Gmail through the browser but not through the Gmail app.I have downloaded this app.from Play Store uninstalled it and reinstalled it a few times trying to make it work, but it does not.Interestingly, the Gmail app.in my iPad is working fine.I am not positive but it started to happen when I updated my unlocked phone to Android 5.0.
When wi-fi is on, I don't get Gmail. If I turn wi-fi off I will get an email the instant someone sends it.Wi-fi is set to stay awake when the phone is in stand-by, no power saving is enabled and no power saving apps have been installed. I factory reset the phone when I got it.I checked all my Google account sync settings and they are fine.
I do have BlueMail installed for another email account. That works fine. In fact, if I send an email to my Gmail address, and one to my Blue Mail email account, the Blue Mail client will get the email, but nothing in Gmail. One I double tap the screen to wake the phone up, the Gmail will come in. I tried uninstalling BlueMail to see if that was causing an issue, and I get the same results.
I just did a factory reset to try to fix my battery problems, and now my contacts contain all of the "other contacts" from Gmail, which I don't want. In my Contacts -> Settings -> Contacts to display, I chose my gmail account only. All of the "other contacts" are still showing. I think this is also affecting my contact sync with my car, as my most important contact didn't get synced to the car (maybe there's a limit). Either way, I have about 330 real contacts, and ~650 "other contacts".
I am using Nokia messaging on my E72 with my gmail account...is it normal that my gprs/umts connection remains always active to check new mail? I thought that Nokia messaging worked the same as blackberry smartphones, so my phone has to use gprs/umts connection only when nokia messaging server sends him a notification of an incoming mail...is is possibile to let e72 work this way?
Just got an e72 (NAM) and was able to setup mail for exchange no problem. I'm also trying to setup my gmail account. I select the GMail icon and enter my @gmail.com email address and password then the phone sits there for a while and punts me back to the main mail screen. No gmail account setup, no error, nothing.
http://email.nokia.com doesn't recognize any of my email addresses, so am I hooped?
I was able to setup my google apps account with IMAP settings, but it can't maintain a connection for more than a few minutes so is virtually useless and was hoping an account setup as a proper gmail account might work better.
So after searching the forums and Google and iTunes and just about everywhere I can think of, I still can't seem to find the app I need.I just bought my iPhone 3G-S yesterday, after using android for almost a year, and the ONLY one app/function i can't seem to find is for my SMS to be backed up automatically to an e-mail account.
On android there's an app called SMSBackup, in which all you need to do is enter your google username and password, and then it backs up all your SMS automatically to your Gmail address as soon as you receive them. They appear under a label and are archived automatically, and when you go into that label you see them as threaded conversations. I can post screenshots if anyone would like me to.
I'm surprised that with the number of apps for the iPhone there isn't a single app that does this? At least from what I can see.
Does anybody know if there is actually an app that I've overlooked and that does what I'm looking for? Or if there's an app that is in development to do this? The android one is open source so I'm sure it can be done on the iPhone, no? And before I get flamed for this, I do know they are completely different operating systems and are developed differently.
Is it because of the one-app-running-at-a-time thing? Because surely that shouldn't stop it with the new app (i forgot it's name) that allows you to run multiple apps in the background
I have Gmail pushed to my phone via Google's push instructions (exchange server).Because I want push notifications, I am in search of the best notification app.I have used Gpush in the past and it seemed to be decent. I then read that Push Gmail was better, so I made the switch and have been using it ever since. My experience with both of these apps has been that both are prone to outages (sometimes days/weeks long) and delays in pushing notifications to my phone. Is there a better app? Is there a way to do it without an app?
