Jan 7, 2010I have a UK vodafone storm 2 9520. I'd quite like to have opera 5 mini beta on it .... I've read that it is very good.I tried to download it from the Opera site and it sent a link to my phone which took me to mini.opera.com said my phone model couldnt be detected and something about going to the opera site and using a desktop pc to download the file. I did this and ended up with a .alx and a .cod file. I've not been able to find a way to install them on my phone. I've copied them across and tried to run them and i've emailed the files to me to an email on the phone and it says file type not recognised.

May 15, 2010So I know that you can touch the red bar to scroll all the way up in the Opera Mini browser, but is there any way to scroll down besides swiping the screen?I've searched as best as I can and couldn't find anything that's relevant to the Storm's touchscreen. All the instructions are for physical keyboard use, not the touchscreen.Is it possible to scroll down in the Opera Mini browser with the Storm's touchscreen?

Mar 17, 2010I so love Opera now and the speed is amazing. Is there anyway to make it my default browser? When I click a link in an email it opens up the incredibly slow native BB browser. When I go into settings, the only choices are internet browser and hotspot browser.

For the past couple of days, I've been unable to use my BB's Browser or GPS functions. Whenever I try to connect to the BB Browser, I get a timeout error. None of my bookmarks are able to connect either. I've tried switching between the different settings in browser configuration settings (BIS, hotspot, wifi, IE, Firefox, etc) to no avail. I also have a wifi set up at home and even though it was working flawlessly a couple of days ago, it will no longer connect to any wifi. In addition, the GPS function is not working on any of the apps that use GPS (Both BB and Google maps, weatherbug, poynt).
Here's the kicker: Everything else is working great. I'm getting all of my emails from all of the emails I have configured with the device (my work email through the BES, forwarded from a comcast address, and from my *@vzw.blackberry.net address) and all of my apps seem to be working fine. I've got facebook, ubertwitter, ebay, weatherbug, poynt, and a couple of others and they're all able to update wirelessly.
I've tried going through a new enterprise activation, I've updated everything through the desktop manager, and I've re-registered the device on the network. I'm iffy on whether I've actually pushed all of the service books to the device again because I can't login here: https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=vzw. Whenever I try to, it tells me I have use my device's BIS. Well, that's my problem. I can't use my device's BIS. Also, I have one WiFi host routing table and about a hundred Verizon host routing tables. I'm not sure which ones I should delete, as I've read, in order to get it download a new one.
The only thing I've really noted that appears to be a problem is that when I go to Options -> Status, the device's IP Address is 0.0.0.0. I'm not sure if that is supposed to be like that or not. I know from regular internet usage on a desktop, if you don't have an ip address on the network, you can't get on the internet. Does that ring true for the BB as well?

Aug 23, 2010So i jus got my BB Storm 2 yesterday n im having issues with my EDGE network... it seems to keep goin to the lower case edge n then my FB n other internet apps cease to work... is there somethin i can do 2 keep it from doing that...ive gone to "managing connections" n turned off the antena n turned it bak on n that works but only 4 a short time.

1.What i am still unsure of is which phone is better suited to Canadian phone companies neither will get 3g coverage but will one work better than the other like will they both get 2.5g coverage?
2. Also i have read that possibly the 9520 will be comin to rogers but i havnt heard anything recent on it does anyone have news on a release date or anything?
3. Right now i am thinkin of buyin the storm 9550 from telus and either goin with fido or terminate my contract with them and stay with telus or move to rogers. Is there a company that is better suited to the storm 2 or will either giv me 2.5g?

Apr 3, 2010When I select Delete on Mailbox and Handheld it no longer deletes my email in Outlook on my computer. I do have synch deleted items selected in my Verizon BIS account. I can't remember when this started or what could have caused it. I have installed several leaks and am currently using .607.

Apr 20, 2010Got my storm 2 about a week ago. Only belong to one BBM group but the keyboard will not come up when I try to message in the group. Works fine for one on one chat. I did work for the first few days and this one was shipped with .607 and was not a refurb. I tried all the usual fixes including deleting BBM which I found that I couldn't delete it.

Apr 1, 2010Whether it was my recent os upgrade to 517 or the new BIS 3.0, but something amazing has happened to my native browser. It went from being frustratingly slow and almost unusable to lightning fast! Its so different I have been thinking of it as a whole new app.I used to use Opera Mini exclusively, and had even gone as far as to "hide" the icon for the bb browser, but that has all changed. I haven't even booted up OM in a couple of days. Has any one else noticed this incredible change? Is it the new BIS or was my it 517 upgrade? Most pages now load in less than 3 seconds!

I went to tmobile to change the device (PIN and IMEI) but tmobile says "The information you have provided is not valid for this provider."Also, I can't update the host routing table. It's blank and registering doesn't do anything. APN is set to epc.tmobile.com.

Aug 4, 2010I read all the thread on how to remove the languages, I did it in set up wizard but portugues stayed behind. I need to remove these, hooked up my bb to the desk top manager and there are no options to remove these languages...

May 22, 2010the proximity sensor works fine when I am on a phone call, (ie: my face does not push any buttons), but when I am listening to a Visual Voice Mail, I am constantly stopping the playback of the message when the screen touches my face. Seems like the screen lock out feature does not work at all in VVM (but works fine while on a call).
This did not happen before the upgrade to .607.

Jan 21, 2010I've been thinking of getting a Blackberry for quite some time now and decided to get the storm2 due to it's larger screen.I m located in Canada and using Fido (or Rogers). So I could get either one right? But why do I hear some rumors that 9550 is not so good on GSM as the 9520? Should I get 9550 or 9520? I wont be using the CDMA at all, but it seems that I could get 9550 a lot easier than 9520 in Canada.

May 26, 2010First I would like to say hello to my fellow berry folks. This is my first post on this site. I was a regular on blackberryforums.com but I see there is a greater following on crackberry, so I'll share my story here......
I have AT&T for my carrier and I was up for an phone upgrade. A few months ago I purchased a brand new 9550 (had the Pearl2 before that and the original Pearl before that!) that was unlocked and I loved it!!! Since this was a Verizon phone, I could not use AT&T's 3G network so I decided to go with the "next best thing", the Iphone. Well, 24 hours later I was returning the phone back to the story. I was unimpressed. Here are the reasons why, though they may seem petty, was enough for me to give it back.........
1. No LED status indicator. I didn't realize how much I actually depended on this. For example, if you get a text or better yet miss a text, you MUST push the home button to turn the screen on to see if you received a text or not. With the Blackberry, a quick glance at the status indicator LED would let you know that. This will never be capiable with any current Iphone as they do not have any such "bulb". There are apps that can "flash" the screen but I can imagine that would play a big part in the battery life. I've read on a few Iphone forums that the users wish they had an LED indicator, while other said that it would be annoying to have this feature. But as annoying as it may be, it is an OPTION with the Blackberry.
2. No sound profiles. Well, it actually has two. Silent, which you only have the option to change vibrate to on/off. The other option is just a general option where you can change the loudness on the ring via a slider. There is a Sound Profile app that'll cost you about $7.
3. You cannot use any apps outside the Apple App store unless you "jailbreak" it. Jailbreaking will void your warranty. We all already know Blackberry is open to all outside apps.
4. Home screen does not "flip" when turned to landscape. May be an app for that.
5. Scary to think what happens to this phone when the battery actually dies, since you can't replace it (not a reason to totally ditch the phone but worth noting).
A few things that were pretty sweet on the Iphone........
1. Safari. Very nice and extremely user friendly. Was very fast but I don't have anything to compare it with since my Blackberry could not use the 3G network. Hopefully RIMs new browser will be up to par.
2. A trillion apps..........Nuff said........It'll be quite awhile for Blackberry to catch up in that department. But my guess it that 95% of Apples apps are pretty useless.
3. No clicking. This is bitter/sweet for me. For typing, clicking is a MUST for me and I missed it dearly. But for larger "depressions" like icons and such where mistakes are minimal due to the fact of the larger area to push on, a simple tap on the screen was very nice. I wish a "tap not click" was an option on the Blackberry, as I would be tapping icons and clicking text.
BB Storm2 9550/9520 :: Post Impressions Of Screen Click On New Storm2
Mar 17, 2010I just got a replacement Storm 2 dated Mar 6, 2010. My old Storm worked pretty well but sometimes the bottom row buttons would stick, especially when using the Seidio extended battery with the plastic battery cover. I have a week or so to try both out before sending back the old one.
The new screen feels more... buttery. Its smooth. Buttery smooth. The old screen is clickier. The bottom row buttons on the new screen are a little sloppy compared to when you press the middle of the screen. Does anyone else notice this? I don't like that.But so far the new screen hasn't locked up on the bottom row as much, especially when trying to use it while the Storm is lying on a table.
For typing, the old screen seems just a bit faster, maybe just a bit less pressure required. New screen is a bit harder to type on but smoother.The old screen has a warmer white color than the old, but that is OK the old was fairly "blue".I don't know for sure yet which I like better! But will update here as I find more. If new screen prevents "hard button" syndrome than that's probably enough.
BB Storm2 9550/9520 :: E-Books On 9520 / Cannot Find File After Load
Feb 28, 2010When I put my micro Sd card into my PC I see there is a file within Blacberry marked "E-Books", however if I put any e-books into that file and put the card back into my Blackberry, I cannot no longer find that file in the various icons on the screen to even try and read the e-books.
