BB Curve 8500 :: 8530 Update Using Desktop Manager / Very Slow
Aug 16, 2010Been updating the OS on my 8530 using the pc Desktop Manager software v5.0.1 and the usb connector to the phone. I started at 11:00am this morning. It is now almost 3:00pm.It is still showing 346 of the 528 modules in the Download device Software part of the process. At this point it's a fail... But it says Do not disconnect your device... or else. What now? Very disappointing.

Jul 12, 2010My yahoo email was hacked into as I opened an email on my Blackberry 8530 curve. They were able to change my email password, steal and delete my contact list, send all my contacts and email saying I was in London and desperately needed $1500 and set up an alternate email in Yahoo so that if some questioned the email requesting money they would reply it was really me. Is there anything I can use to protect the Blackberry phone from this type of thing from happening.

Sep 15, 2010The Last sync and Last backup dates don't update when I connect to BB desktop and do auto sync and backup. This causes backup to run every time I connect instead of weekly like I have it setup. If I do a manual sync the date updates but if I do a manual backup the date stays unchanged. I'm running desktop 6.0.0.43 and OS 5.0.0.886. Does anyone know how to cure this problem?

Jul 6, 2011I bought my blackberry 8530 yesterday. I used the internet in a pub on WI-FI, but when I left the pub and tried to access the internet I can't. When I open the browser and type an address, it just says that I should be in a WI-FI zone and to check this, or something along those lines. How do I get onto the Internet without using WI-FI??? I am on a 30 day rolling contract with Orange who give me 500MB of internet as part of my bundle.

Jun 15, 2010my wifes 8530 we just did the BB App World upgrade. Now we can't see or find the icon to open and use it. After being on the phone with Verizon for a while they contacted BB and this is what I was told to do.
-Download BB desktop manager on my computer
-Backup all data from the phone
-Do a hard reset which will delete all data from the phone
-Reinstall all data from desktop manager back to phone and then the icon should appear

Jun 1, 2010Well here is the scoop I switched from my curve to a samsung instinct for a couple of days to try out the touch screen.It was a friends phone.I didn't like it, it was way to simple I like my apps and stuff on my blackberry.So I called sprint today to switch my phone back to my blackberry.I can get calls make calls, however I cannot access the internet or set up my e mail.I have resent my service books and received nothing.When I go back into my setup wizard and say setup e mail it says your device had a problem connecting to the server.When I got to like facebook it says no connection.I just want to get back on my interenet and e mail.

They use to but now when I go to like you tube, or nothingtoxic.com, or even my video recordings it won't play it says an error has occurred media attempt failed. Jul 16, 2010I just downloaded the new OS when I plugged my phone to the computer... it sounded like a good idea to upgrade everything but I do not like how the UNlock function is only through the mute button now. I mean, if I wanted to just lock/unlock my phone that way with the push of only one button, I could use the standby (mute) button and press on it again to unlock it before. I really liked the previous version where you had to take the extra step of pushing two buttons (A and Send) to unlock it. Because I unlock my phone by accident a lot when it's in my purse and I reach for something and accidentally press the top button (mute button). Any ideas if Blackberry is planning on a new OS version soon that would restore the old locking/unlocking system? I do not necessarily want to downgrade to a previous OS version but I might have to as the "easy" one-button only unlocking option is not working for me.

Jul 27, 2010I updated my phone the other day with the v5.0.0.734 OS. It wiped out everything. I had to go back and restore my contacts, reload ringtones and apps, etc. Got everything back the way it was now.
I have three email accounts synced to it. All are active, Wi-fi on, network on. New mail isn't showing up on my handset, only from my gmail account, the hotmails aren't showing up. Used to be you could look in the folder for each email account and see what emails were there, then there was one folder that showed all of them. What am I missing?

May 10, 2010I'm gettin sick n tired of this trackball on the 8330, I recently had to fix it cause it would only go up... so onto a new Blackberry! Can anyone give me some input about the 8530? I hear the camera has no flash , is that true? How is that supposed to be an upgrade!? Anything else I should know that's different between the two, aside from the obvious?

May 27, 2010When i want to lock my Blackberry curve 8530 i just press the A key. But when i want to unlock, the message shows up to press the MUTE botton. I have a plastic case on it, so everytime I go to press the Mute buton, I have to take the case off. Now my fiance has the same exact phone, and when he wants to unlock, the message says to press the A key with the send/call key.

Aug 9, 2010I am trying to sync my BB with my desktop software. I was advised the only way i could get music on my BB was to take the memory card out the phone use an adapter to put music on then put the memory card back in BB.
Surely when i connect my BB to my laptop with the desktop software on it, i should be able to see the music and pictures that are on my phone, or should i not??
I have gone into the options menu on the screen and had a look at my memory, and it is telling me "Media Card cannot be read. Verify that the memory card is properly inserted, formatted and not corrupted".
I have also made sure that Mass Storage support is on, along with Media Card Support, but i still cant see anything.
BB Curve 8520/8530 :: 8530 Ringer Does Not Change For Address Book Without Changing Each?
Feb 16, 2010My husband got a curve 8530 the other day. All of the people in his address book have "classic ringer" as their custom ring tone along with the volume set about midway like its some kind of default setting. I have tried changing the profiles/ringtones and creating new ones (with different tones) this does not change the ringer for those 80+ people. In the Set Contact Alert menu there are only 3 people with a custom tone showing.The Classic Ring is not loud enough for him to hear and no matter how I try to change the default ringer it does not change the ring for the contact list.I've done a battery pull, no change.Updated it to newest OS.Contact list was imported from a Storm 2(he likes having actual buttons to push).
Am I missing something or 1) shouldn't all those people show up in the Set Contact Alert Menu, if there is a custom tone set up or 2) shouldn't their default change if I change the default for the phone.I haven't checked all of them, but did check at least 10 and regardless of what I do they're still the same. Ringer shows Classic all other options say active profile.Is there any way I can change their default ringer without having to give each one a custom ring--too time consuming?
BB Curve 8520/8530 :: 8530 Reboots Itself - Accept This Defect As Part Of Experience?
Feb 4, 2010I had a 8330 (for 2 months) that would reboot itself constantly. Does not do it anymore 'cause I returned it for a 8530. The 8530 that I've had since Jan 01 is better, it only does it now and then when it is tethered to my pc.. Rendering it just about useless for my business activities. US Cellular is at a loss. Should I accept this defect as part of the BB experience?
