I want to switch off the gprs/edge/g3 data services so that i can only use wifi for browsing thus stopping my pay as you go credit vanishing when it switched to gprs data with out telling me .I found the setting that turns off data services but that switches everything off with no options provided to select what to switch off. Also the wifi indicator stays grayed out even when it is working when it should go white (according to the internet this is to do with me not having a "Blackberry Internet Service Plan" )I have a 2 day old factory fresh 8520 , on virgin(uk) pay as you go
My daughter's new 8520 doesn't seem to be able to send or receive BBMs, has this got something to do with the fact the GPRS only comes up as "gprs" in lower case in the top right-hand corner of the screen on the phone?
I have just taken delivery of my new 8520. I bought it for its Internet, and more so, WI-FI capabilities. However I am due to go on holiday and due to the cost of getting data in a foreign country would like to totally disable the GPRS data, as not to incur a huge bill. I would however like to still be able to access internet, Via WI-Fi, when in a free wifi hotspot or something running off wifi (hotel internet at 1 euro a hour etc)
I have tried this at home on my home router with what I think is GPRS off, wifi enabled, and it informs me I need GPRS on to access WIFI. Being a coms engineer, I can’t understand in anyway shape or form how one is dependant on the other, being they are totally different protocols.
My Curve 8520 (v5.0.0.681) on O2-UK has switched to GSM since last Friday (16th).Initially it happened to my girlfriend's Curve 8520, then mine and now it has happened to her sisters Curve 9300.
It has not happened to my girlfriend's parents Curve 9300. I also work 50 miles from home and it's not working so it's not a single tower issue. I have tried pulling the battery, reinstalling the software and a security wipe.
I contacted my carrier (O2-UK) who state that it's not a problem with their network and that they have had a lot of reports of the same issue in this past week, they're saying it's a Blackberry issue.
I recently bought my first Blackberry smartphone, The Blackberry Curve 8520. I was really impressed with the phone at such a cheap price since I am a teen, the 8520 is perfect for me. But I downloaded a few apps which I can use at home when theres wifi but i cannot use the Twitter, Facebook, UberTwitter apps when not at home (No wifi). Does anyone have the same problems? When i try to log in or connect without Wifi, It does not connect. And on Ubertwitter, The app keeps running but it doesnt connect to gprs/wap. Anyone have the same problems or know how to change the settings so that i can use the apps with GPRS/WAP Please give me your suggestions and/or solutions/help.
My blackberry is not switching on after i let the battery go completly flat. The Pc is not responding to it either when I plug it in. I´ve only hyad the phone a couple of months. Is it a common problem or should I return the phone?
My battery died on Saturday and I didn't have a charger with me. So, I switched off my phone so just to cool it off. When I got home I put it on charger. And it showed it was charging. But when it rebooted it didn't completely switched on. I took off my battery for about 30minutes and rebooted again, but still it would not switch on. And it still does that today. My phone is ten months old.
I am trying to swotch from my old BB 7290 to a new Curve 8520 using Desktop Manager v. 6 but it always comes up the error "A fatal error occurred while updating the device software. Please try again". My old and new devices are connected with an Enterprise Server (the company server syncronizes the office mails with Microsoft outlook). what I would need to do to pass all my mails stored in my old 7290 to my new 8520? These mails are not present in the Microsoft Outlook of my PC as I stored them in the BB 7290 only.

I want to switch devices on Blackberry Desktop Manager from a Curve 8330 to an 8520. This will move all data and third party apps as well as the pin. Will this change the phone number as well? I do not have a sim card.

My mom's phone's data services aren't working...it's only working when we're connected to the WiFi at our house. When I turn it off, nothing else works except texts and calls.
BBM's / emails won't work; I did the host routing table and that wasn't working either. Can anyone help me or have any suggestions?
I'm thinking about buying a BB Curve 8520 and was wondering if 1) You can just use it w/o having a data plan, 2) If so, can I use the Wi-Fi to join my house network w/o having a data plan, and 3) Would I be able to download apps then, specifically Pandora?
I've got a blackberry curve 8520. (v5.0.0.592). I have inserted a sim card which works and also connected to my wifi. But when I click on Blackberry App world it says: "The Data service is not operational". When I try to login to my msn it says the same as well.
My Blackberry 8520 will not access data unless it's connected to Wi-Fi. Even then it will not send MMS messages. I have a Blackberry data plan and am in accessible areas, so something must be wrong.
I originally had a Curve 8520 but sadly it got stolen. I backed it up before it was stolen and I was just wondering, before I make a new purchase, will I have to buy the curve 8520 in order to restore the data I backed up? Or could I buy a newer curve eg 9300 or even a completely different model eg bold 9780 and still have all my info?
I got a new Curve 8520 just resently and have a problem with my internet connection. I use my Curve without data plan/bis. To go in the internet I use Opera 5.0 and for Emails logicmail. To connect to the internet, I changed my APN according to my provider setting:
apn: internet (thats for o2 Germany) No authentification
Username/PW: blank
On the first day, everything worked just fine, Opera aswell as Logicmail. I also had a EDGE symbol in the upper right corner. On the second date I found, that Opera and logicmail would not connect via Wifi. So I started to play around with settings. Anyway, since then Opera and Logicmail refused to connect via EDGE, however Wifi worked.... I could not figure out the ressons, so I tried to undo my setting changes. And yesterday I was finally able to connect via EDGE again. And here is the funny thing: This morning, I got the same errors agian, when trying to connect via EDGE. I did not do anything with the phone last night, it just refuses to connect. It still shows me the edge sign, but opera always tells me, that it is unable to connect. I set the application application permisson for both programs to "prompt" under the point "internet" to see if the phone even tries to connect, but it does not. Wifi still works fine. It seems that my Blackberry forgot about EDGE and always wants to connect via wifi. Can anyone help me out here?
I currently have a Curve 8320 with Tmobile, BB unlimited e-mail, and no data plan. This works really well, since all I use it for is email and calendar. I occasionally use the internet at home using WiFi. And email service is only $10/month. I'm thinking of getting an 8520, but want to make sure my BB email still works fine with no data plan. I know Tmobile won't sell you one unless you get data service. Anyone own an 8520 without a data plan?
I have had my blackberry for over a year and have had no problem until about a month ago. I redid my 6months blackberry internet booster like usual, but when it had been activated, none of my apps will work and none of my emails come in. My browser still works like usual though. I have phoned t-mobile up but they keep saying everything is correct and to just keep restarting my phone. i have been restarting it by doing the battery reboot about 3 times a day for the last month. I still cant use my apps. I phoned them again and they said blackberry was down aand it would come back in the next few days. No-one else i no has this problem. What can i do?
I have backed up data via Desktop Manager for a Curve 8520 which has recently been stolen. I would like to import only the Contact List contained in that back up data from the stolen device to a new Curve 8520. However I do not see any method to do that other than to "Import Files" to the new Curve from the backup data via Desk Top Manager from PC. Is that possible or is that not the mechanism to accomplish this??
For the past 3 or 4 days each morning I wake up my 8530 has lost the data connection. When I open "Manage Connections" I see a green check mark next to Mobile Network- Verizon Wireless and Wifi so I know it's connected. If I un-check the Mobile Network and wait for it to disable then reconnect it will work fine and all my e-mails and texts from the night get pushed through. I have great service at my house so I'm not sure why my phone keeps losing the data connection at some point during the night. I am running the latest OS .886 and this is my second 8530 "certified pre-owned device" as my first 8530 died. I also did a battery pull the first day I noticed this which re-connected the data but it happened again when I woke up the next morning.Has this happened to anyone else?
