BB Curve 83xx :: Trackball Won't Move
Mar 12, 2010My trackball won't scroll down? It moves side to side but will not move up or down, I have tried a battery pull but nothing helps I didn't drop it at all can someone help?

May 2, 2010so here's my problem. i went over to a friends house today for a barbecue, and when i got there i sent a text so i know everything was working fine. a few hours later i get home and notice that the screen on my Curve is black, and i knew something was up because i know it was fully charged before i left the house earlier. hit the buttons and nothing. so i do a battery pull and it reboots fine, then the screen goes black after 30 seconds and then hit the buttons and nothing. when i hook a mini usb cable up to the port, the screen comes back on for the usual 30 seconds, then goes black like the other times. when i connected it via the cable and the screen lit up, i noticed that the trackball scrolls fine left and right, but pushing the trackball does nothing.the phone is about a year and a half old, through Verizon. i have no problem with getting a new phone, but i don't want to loose the 150 or so contacts i have on the phone. i don't have Google Sync installed on the phone, and i'm guessing that it's too late to back anything up now on my end. when i connect it to my PC, i can access the usually Media folders and Slacker, but nothing else. if i take it into a local VZW store, would they be able to back up my address book the exact way it is now, since the phone powers on and the USB port works fine?i'm going to remove the shell tonight and see if i notice anything.

Sep 13, 2010My girls blackberry 8320 is having issues. The trackball scrolls perfectly, but does not click at all. We've tried taking it to t-mobile places around here every single time they say "sorry nothing we can do" even during their free trackball replacement promo way back. She refuses to get a new phone for some reason, so I turn to you all for help on this one. Any idea what the problem could be? Would a new trackball from the store fix it you think?

Sep 8, 2010I fell in love with my 8310 when I first got it about 2 years ago. It has everything I could need. I am not a internet person but it has the memo pad for my fireman stuff, the right size buttons for texting since I have pretty large hands, and I liked the applications I had. Well my phone has taken the falls and the other day it fell face first into a rain puddle. I grabbed it up fast. The cell has dried and it still works except for the trackball and the menu button. Basically the 2 most important buttons. I took it to the store and the phones strip was still white and never turned red. They told me I am do for a upgrade. I love the 8310, its been great to me. So the question: is there a fix of the keypad I can just get off ebay or the other options were 2 cells I found. Not wanting to do the whole data plan deal and not all stoked about a 3g. The guy was trying to press the torch on me and I told him no thanks.
The cells that interest me are.
1) The 8520. I like this one cause it seems like its not far from what I had maybe a few new bells and whistles. I see it has wifi.

Jun 17, 2010Hey folks, a few weeks ago I dropped my Curve in some water. I dried it out in some rice and reloaded all the software. It works now except for one major problem.the trackball will not scroll at all. It won't go up or down or left or right. It will still select.I have a completely new housing and trackball. I tried an old trackball but it didn't work either. I cleaned the new trackball with some alcohol as well as the contacts in the phone but it still won't work.

I can no longer use the trackball to click my selection. opera 4.2 seems completely different in os 5.0 compared to 4.5. anyone else come across this and with a fix?

Jun 16, 2010I've looked around and haven't seen this specific problem. My T-mobile 8320's trackball has learned the new trick of only working when the phone is in bright light!The symptoms: If the keyboard light is on, the trackball doesn't work. If the keyboard light is off, the trackball works normally. The trackball light never goes off, but stays at least dim even when the screen is blanked and the keyboard light is off. In fact, it is on even when the phone is in the holster.The phone has never been abused, nor experienced water or anything.
I've done the battery pull to no avail, and played with the keyboard/trackball settings and the backlight settings with the same results.T-Mobile says to try a master reset. I'll do that after I figure out what data is on my phone that will need replacing.

Jan 16, 2010I upgraded my Verizon Curve 8330 to a Tour and now my trackball is acting up. I'm thinking of changing the trackballs since I never had a problem with the Curve. Are they all the same size or has anyone had problems trying this. I'm not worried about taking it apart or the warranty, but would like to see if this was successful for anyone else first.

Jan 4, 2010I'm kinda new to Blackberry, been toying around with my BB8310 and was trying to organize the applications into folders and such. I've searched and read thru some tutorials and stuff on how to do it. However, whenever I press the menu or alt + trackball when I highlight the application, there's only the "move" option. There's no "move to folder" option. What am I missing here? I am on a BB8310 with OS 4.5. Can someone please enlighten me. Sorry if this has been discussed before. Jul 1, 2011I have a BlackBerry 8900, which has been working perfectly for almost two years now. About a week ago, my trackball stopped working and my keyboard went haywire! I took the phone in and the Trackball as well as the Dome switch were replaced. When I got it back, it worked perfectly... until I put the Sim card in, and it's back to square one! If I put some pressure on the sim card, it works. When I remove the sim, it works perfectly again.

Mar 19, 2010So I got my first BB 6 months ago! I loved it I babied it! I never had a phone do so much keep me so entertained. Keep me so up to date with everything> I left the G1 for the BB and it was still much better I could contact friends I could not any other way with the BBIM. Then one day she died in her track ball! So I had to replace her. That was 2 months into the love affair I was having with the BB.
So I got the replace meant and it was harder than anything to tell her by. I could tell my wife by with ease but not her. I loved her! She was my best friend my companion I never left her behind! So many bars so many experiences SO MUCH TROUBLE ELIMINATED. But she had to go, Like a horse with a broke leg she was worthless!
So on to my second one not so much babying as I still thought of her predecessor. She could never be HER! I however gave here a chance! and we grew a bond unlike no other.
we were inseparable every where together only a handful of hungover days did I forget to bring her with me to work. I m,ade up for that many a time!
She finally committed suicide of the track ball as well. Following her predecessor. So I had to replace her again but this time I had new knowledge of how to use her while I waited. I also had a callous numbness to her loss from my first marriage to a BB! So I was not hurt or lonely!
So as I awaited my replacement BB Curve 8900. I did not care as soon as it arrived she was done she was gone to the wayside! I hope you can be refurbished but I can never trust you ever!
My new mistress arrived I opened her fondled her and loaded her with all I had! Only to find out I had been burned. She did not work for data. or incoming calls. She was a teasing *****! So back to my previous mistress! With no track ball while I fight for a free upgrade due to have gone through 3 BB 8900 in 6 months WTF

Jan 4, 2010So I installed an Invisible Shield on my 8900 yesterday and I turned it on a few minutes ago to find that the trackball isn't working well anymore.The phone works fine, it didn't have any water damage.
However to be able to use the trackball I have to press down while spinning it.Also it feels kinda smooth, like it offers no resistance when spinning.Any solutions? What can I do? If i take in to T-Mobile can they give me a new trackball? (Phone was purchased March 08.)

When I go to screen/keyboard options the only type of light I can edit or adjust is the screen backlight.I've read about how to cover the sensor near the led but I don't even see the sensor. And what would that matter since its already dark and its not working?To note, I just got this BB from my mom a few days ago and the keyboard light hasn't worked since I've had it and I haven't asked her about it. Aug 30, 2011I've been having a bizzare issue with my Blackberry 8900. Basically, the trackball will just stop scrolling and I can't move anywhere. But the trackball itself doesn't feel physically stuck, it moves the same as always, but it won't move on the screen. It does, however, let me select still using the trackball. The menus aren't frozen, it's just a scrolling issue.
I've tried re-installing the software and have the most recent update available. I've tried restoring it to factory settings, but it's no good. The problem is intermittent - about 90% of the time it's frozen. The only thing I've discovered to remedy it is a battery and sim pull - this worked for a while, and I was able to use the phone as normal, but it stop scrolling and need a sim pull approx every 24 hours. Now that doesn't even work. I gave up trying to use it and put my sim in my old Blackberry, but turned my 8900 on anyway (simless) and it worked! I thought it was a fluke at first, but I've been trying it all week - keeping my phone on, simless, and noting that it works all the time - no problems at all. Occasionally I'll try putting my sim back in my 8900 and sure enough it breaks again. So I started to suspect there was an issue with the sim. I called up Orange and got them to send me out a new one, just in case that was the issue. They've done that, it's all registered, but still I'm having the same problem - it won't let me scroll when there's an active sim inside, but as soon as I take it out it's like there's no problem at all.
