BB Bold :: Unstable WiFi/UMA/WiFi Calling Connections On It?

Jul 20, 2011

I literally drop EVERY WiFi call after about 5-7 minutes. I get an error message "WiFi Signal Lost". I would normally just blame the WiFi network I'm on, but it does it on multiple totally different networks (home, work, Burger King, etc...). And I know for sure both home and work networks are very stable and fast. Not sure what the issue is. If I go and view the network details of the network I'm on, the signal strength is typically between -40 and -75 dBm. While in UMA mode, the phone will actually go out of UMA mode sometimes for no apparent reason, and won't go back into UMA mode until after a few minutes. The worst part is that the Home screen says I'm still connected to the WiFi network, but the top right corner doesn't say UMA! It says 3G! And YES, my Mobile Network Mode is set to "WiFi Preferred". Even if I set it to WiFi Only, the top of the Home screen says I'm connected to the WiFi network, but the top right corner says OFF and the phone just goes dead!!

I use this phone for work and it needs to be reliable. Is my above WiFi Calling experience normal?? If not, does anybody know anything I can try? Are there some apps that conflict the with operation of the phone portion at all? I'm back to using the default theme now and it's still doing it... Should I try doing a factory reset? Here are the apps I can think of that I have installed:

Dark GalaxyCrunchSMSBolt Browser w/BBLauncher PluginQuickPullGoogleMapsWeather ChannelTetris by Electronic Arts I've removed a bunch of the default apps, but all other apps on the phone are ones that it came with.Another thing I've been noticing... it will randomly lock up for a few seconds and be TOTALLY unresponsive. If I'm scrolling through a page, the pointer will all of a sudden stop and become completely unresponsive for a few seconds. Then resumes like nothing happened. And, if I'm typing a long text or email and it does this total-lock up, I'll look up from the keyboard and see that none of my keystrokes were being echo'd onto the screen while it was locked up. But then it starts working again like nothing happened. BUT The strange thing is that if I'm typing while it's locked up, it doesn't appear to a buffer any of my keystrokes! (as opposed to on my old BB 8330: sometimes when it got bogged down because I had too much stuff running in the background, the keystrokes being echo'ed to the screen would sometimes slow down and lag behind my typing.... but it always kept track of what I typed and would eventually catch up.) HOWEVER, when my 9780 completely locks up like I mentioned above, it doesn't seem to recognize that I typed anything while it was locked up. when it "snaps out of it" and comes back to life, none of the keystrokes I typed while it was locked up are echo'ed onto the screen. I'm wondering if it's during these complete lockups that I'm dropping calls?

IPhone :: Difference Between GPS 4 And 4S?

May 16, 2012

Today I went running using Runkeeper app with a friend of mine. I have an iPhone 4S, he has the 4.We both used the same app, and ran the same track. Since it is an official track, we know the exact distance. It should be 11,4 km (7.13 miles). My phone told me I ran 12,07 km (7,54 miles). This is way off, and screws up my average speeds etc.The funny thing is, that the iphone 4 of my friend had an accurate 11,4 km. The conditions were the same; bit cloudy, bit rain, bit sun. Some trees above, some open sky. The only difference I can think of is that he has an jailbroken iphone and I do not, and his is a 4. I have an iPhone cover (Moshi something), he doesn't. In my opinion he should be the one having inaccurate GPS, not me.

It's my first Nokia phone, but I think, I would love it. The problem is in phone version... She sent me a link on Amazon (link is in the end of the post). Then I saw that it is U.S. Version. What does it mean? What's the difference? Is there any hardware or software difference? Functions? Someone told me that they have different functions (no FM, for example)... Please help, because I don't know what to do...The link is:URL...

Nokia :: N97 Bad Music Player - Difference Between V20 And V21

Mar 27, 2010

Can anyone tell me the changes of the music player made in firmware version 21.0.045 compared to version 20.0.019?

All the changes logs I can find say music player improvements but I can't find any.

The difference between v20 and the version before that ware obvious.

Improvements like the back button going back to the home screen instead of the music list you ware coming from.

The removal of the search function in portrait mode, you can only search songs with the hardware keyboard, so no portrait touchscreen keyboard search. (very annoying when using a car dashboard stand).

And they ruined the search function all together. Now I can only search on the first word of a song, album or artiste. First I was able to search just a (part of a)word and all songs containing that word in the title would be found. I have almost 1500 songs on my N97 with only 1/3 of 32GB used. How can the expect me to remember all first words of about 4500 songs!

And all the album art in the lists, which makes for less songs on the screen at once. I don't like that very much, but that's just me I guess.

So overall the made an ok music player into an annoying player ware bey I have to remember way to much to use it properly

Of course I hoped that v21 would bring some positive chances to the music player, but I cant find any. Can Anyone tell me the changes, if any. Or are they all under the hood? But I haven't noticed any performance boosts either.

BB Software :: Calendar: Difference Between Standard And BIS?

Sep 17, 2010

I've got a problem understanding and handling the different calendars on my BB Pearl 3G 9105 (FW: 5.0.0.882).The way I see it I have always a native (standard/default) calendar and when I configure an email account in my BIS-account I get a second calendar - I name it email-account-calendar. This email-account-calendar caused some problems by doubling entries and messing up my outlook when synching - so I deleted the cical service book for it.I'm using the 3rd party calendar software "Calendar Pro" which uses the native BB calendar's database.

When I try to edit or delete an existing appointment within "Calendar Pro" - nothing happens. It's just not possible. Only adding appointments works fine. At the same time I can edit and delete appointments within the native BB calendar software. After upgrading the BB's firmware automatically I got the cical service book for the email-account-calendar back and guess what: I can edit/delete existing appointments and add new ones no matter which program I use (Calendar Pro or the native software). But on the other hand: everything I edit/add in "Calendar Pro" gets not synchronised with Outlook. So it must have something to do with the two different calendar databases. I set my email-account-calendar as "default calendar" so it should be the database that gets synced with outlook - but no chance!

I deleted again the cical service book for the email-address-calendar and now I'm back at the beginning: no way to edit/delete existing appointments within the 3rd party calendar software. When I have two calendars I'm not able to chose which one to use for a new appointment. Even if the email-account-calendar is set as "default" (I can't chose another calendar because it is the only one showing in the list), outlook seems to sync the standard calendar database. When I have just one calendar I'm not able to edit/delete appointments within a 3rd party calendar app (that uses the same database as BB's native calendar!).how to deal with this strange behaviour? As I understand the device should deal with more than one calendar (e.g. business and private). When adding a new appointmet/task/note it should ask which calendar to use and depending on which calendar is set as default it gets synced with outlook. Or not?
