My 1.5years old blackberry bold 9000's trackball cannot be scrolled to the right anymore. Should I get it fixed by paying someone, or should I do it by myself? How to do it and what tools do I need to have/buy?How do I know whether I should replace my trackball?

Almost 3 yrs old. Suddenly the trackball will scroll up, left, right, but not down. So I can't scroll thru my email, contacts, or access any application on the 2nd row of the menu. Anybody have a fix for this

I know I can email them to myself to get them, but the trackball quit scrolling upwards. I would like to get them off this phone so I can get a new one. It started to stop working, so I ordered a new dome as well as a colored trackball as long as I was ordering things.Got parts today, replaced the trackball and the dome, and still no clicking. Could I have not put the dome in perfectly centered? Does that likely mean that the dome is not my problem?
I've gotten used to using the enter key for everything, but some things will not accept that. The option menus just go to the next line when you push enter instead of letting you change the option, the new Google Maps won't accept any input on the initial change permissions screen except a trackball click, so if there's anything else I could try, I'd really like to.
lately my bold's trackball rolls down only when i press it a bit down, but i remember and realize from my friends bold that it could roll down also when u roll it dwn gently.when I roll my trackball down i feel it slides down without doing anything.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSince I have had by Bold 9000, the trackball has always had problems with respect to movement but usually a little cleaning with a Q-tip and alcohol has done the trick. This time the problem is the ball doesnt seem to depress as much as it does or it doenst respond all the time. Have to use the enter button. When the trackball does respond it does double clicks. So If I open an email for example its already set up to reply. lol.
I read a trackball dome might fix things?
BTW my unit is still under warranty but I really dont want someone elses refurb if I can reliably fix it myself and know that the dome is the problem and nothing else ie the processor. Everything else appears OK.
I am having problems with my blackberry 9000 trackball...no downward movement, only side to side and up. Phone is out of warranty and only 14 months old, not abused, dropped or mistreated.

A few weeks ago the click function of my trackball stopped working. I think it was because I had moisture and dirt on my hand when I picked it up to use it. I have been reluctant to take it apart since I don't have a backup BB and it is still 90% functional without this feature working. Today, I did 3 things. First, I took rubbing alcohol and a q-tip and soaked the trackball. Then I used a piece of a straw, threaded it down between the black piece around the trackball and the chrome bezel, gently pulled up on it and used as much compressed air as possible to blow out the area under the trackball. Then, while the battery was out I pushed on the trackball assembly from behind pretty hard. I repeated this procedure a few times, and it suddenly started working. It was intermittent at first, but is working normally now. For how long I don't know but thought I would share this for others that have the same issue.

Yesterday, I noticed that suddenly the Send (Green), End (Red), and "A"/* keys and the trackball click all stopped functioning. All other keys operate normally (and the trackball scrolls fine), but this is an exceptionally annoying problem. I can't believe it's hardware related, unless these keys all are somehow linked. That being said, I've tried numerous battery pulls, upgraded & downgraded the OS ( between the AT&T-approved .297 & .304, I believe) - and so far nothing on the software end.
The moisture indicators are white, and it hasn't been any closer to moisture then in my pocket during a rainstorm. This problem came on suddenly; I did, one other time, have issue with only the trackball click about a year ago, but that mischievously disappeared by itself after my brain melted in search of a solution.
I've searched around & seen many others with similar problems - but there are no causes given or solutions told of. I don't really want to take this damn thing apart, but it's running up on that real quick. My AT&T contract is up in a month, and I'm unwilling to spend $100+ dollars on a refurb replacement model via my protection plan so close to renewal.
ANY ideas what's causing this problem? Anyone with ideas, please feel free to respond or BBM me - PIN supplied above.

Still doesn't work.Is this a software or a mechanical problem? I can use space bar to navigate through messages and text, but can't access applications, utilities, etc. unless there's a work-around I'm unfamiliar with.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been having a bizzare issue with my Blackberry 8900. Basically, the trackball will just stop scrolling and I can't move anywhere. But the trackball itself doesn't feel physically stuck, it moves the same as always, but it won't move on the screen. It does, however, let me select still using the trackball. The menus aren't frozen, it's just a scrolling issue.
I've tried re-installing the software and have the most recent update available. I've tried restoring it to factory settings, but it's no good. The problem is intermittent - about 90% of the time it's frozen. The only thing I've discovered to remedy it is a battery and sim pull - this worked for a while, and I was able to use the phone as normal, but it stop scrolling and need a sim pull approx every 24 hours. Now that doesn't even work. I gave up trying to use it and put my sim in my old Blackberry, but turned my 8900 on anyway (simless) and it worked! I thought it was a fluke at first, but I've been trying it all week - keeping my phone on, simless, and noting that it works all the time - no problems at all. Occasionally I'll try putting my sim back in my 8900 and sure enough it breaks again. So I started to suspect there was an issue with the sim. I called up Orange and got them to send me out a new one, just in case that was the issue. They've done that, it's all registered, but still I'm having the same problem - it won't let me scroll when there's an active sim inside, but as soon as I take it out it's like there's no problem at all.
i upgraded to 5.0 yesterday n have a quick question on the threaded sms. i was wonderin if theres a faster way to scroll to the top of my messages without using the trackball??

It works now except for one major problem.the trackball will not scroll at all. It won't go up or down or left or right. It will still select.I have a completely new housing and trackball. View 1 Replies View Relatedso here's my problem. i went over to a friends house today for a barbecue, and when i got there i sent a text so i know everything was working fine. a few hours later i get home and notice that the screen on my Curve is black, and i knew something was up because i know it was fully charged before i left the house earlier. hit the buttons and nothing. so i do a battery pull and it reboots fine, then the screen goes black after 30 seconds and then hit the buttons and nothing. when i hook a mini usb cable up to the port, the screen comes back on for the usual 30 seconds, then goes black like the other times. when i connected it via the cable and the screen lit up, i noticed that the trackball scrolls fine left and right, but pushing the trackball does nothing.the phone is about a year and a half old, through Verizon. i have no problem with getting a new phone, but i don't want to loose the 150 or so contacts i have on the phone. i don't have Google Sync installed on the phone, and i'm guessing that it's too late to back anything up now on my end. when i connect it to my PC, i can access the usually Media folders and Slacker, but nothing else. if i take it into a local VZW store, would they be able to back up my address book the exact way it is now, since the phone powers on and the USB port works fine?i'm going to remove the shell tonight and see if i notice anything.

I am very used to the Iphone and HTC Touch Pro 2 (not trying to start a flaming/argument/anything else , its just what i'm used to).
