IPhone 4 :: How To Restart Without Power Button Working
Aug 29, 2014
My iPhone 4 has turned off, which seems to be a common problem. Everything I can find says to hold the power/lock screen button + the home button together, along with a combination of plugging it into the computer/ wall, etc. Unfortunately my power button stopped working ages ago (another common problem it seems), so that method of restarting my phone is out. Aside from the power button issue the phone is in pristine condition, the LCI's are normal, no scratches or cracks. I'm not in a place where I can easily obtain another phone and need it for work purposes,
My power button my my HTC One M7 stopped working. Unfortunately, it is currently powered off. So, even though it has a 100% charge, I can't turn it on b/c that requires that I press down the power button. Here are some of the things I've tried from what I've been able to read online:
1. Starting HTC One M7 in recovery mode: Unfortunately, in order to start an HTC One M7 in recovery mode requires holding down the down volume button + the power button. Without the power button working, this solution won't work to get me started.
2. installing adb and fastboot: I'm running Mac OS X 10.10.5 on a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 MBP (retina, mid 2012) machine and have homebrew installed. I issued brew install android-platform-tools. I then changed my $PATH to include the downloaded adb and fastboot programs.
Once I had that set up, I tried to connect to my device through the USB cable. Unfortunately, I don't believe I had the developer mode turned on that allowed USB mounting (MTP). The phone is running Android 5.0.x. So, when I try running 'adb devices' in terminal, I get the response that there are no devices connected. I try 'adb reboot' but with no devices detected, i get, 'error: device not found.'
I tried using diskutil list to see if there were a way to detect the device as connected to the computer even if it's not mounting. But that didn't work, either.
Last week I tried to shut down my phone and I realized that my power button stopped working. Is there a way to re start it without that button and or is my phone just a paper weight?
My phone came up with a message asking if i wanted to update to the new software so clicked ok, it seemed to be taking ages and then suddenly went off. Now when holding down the power button and the home button it is still not working and wont restore?
So today I noticed that my power button on my iPhone 4 is no longer working:( unfortunately I am out of warranty. Does anyone know if Apple would give me a replacement? how good Apple are at replacing out of warranty phones?
my out of warranty iPhone 4 power button stopped functioning all of a sudden and it also no longer made that "click" when pressed. What did I do?I decided to open up the phone and tried to do this, (at 4:30 is what I did)[URL]It basically shows a guy who bonded a very very small washer to the bottom of the power button. I tried this and it didn't work, probably because my washer was a was too big, i filed it down a bit, still didn't work, so I just put it back together, i noticed a few things:After Reassembly, this happened: power button still does not work, and doesn't "click"iPhone camera app shutter does not open and the bottom right "camera/video" icons just flicker, I've concluded this is because of the front camera not working.the ear speaker for phone calls is now "crackly".I noticed my WiFi and network signal isn't as strong, maybe a bar less on WiFi and a bar or 2 less on network.
Temporary solutions:A walk around camera fix is that i installed "camera plus pro" and this allows me to take photos and video. If I switch to the front camera it freezes, again confirming the front camera is not working. What should I do next?So I obviously did something when i took my phone apart and put it back together. I did open it up again and confirmed that all the flex cables and connections were seated properly.I ordered these parts from eBay: Power ButtonPower Button Flex CableBack Camera Lens With Flex Ribbon Cable Feedback If anyone has any ideas, feedback, suffers from the same problem, please feel welcome to continue the discussion. I will be posting a reply after I receive my parts from eBay also.
If I make an app at apple will they fix it with no charge or replace my phone? I have to drive an hour to the nearest store so I don't want to make the trip for nothing.
My iphone 4 is fairly new, I have been using it for about 2 months. It has been perfectly fine besides a bit kinks here and there, the usual things. But today my lock/power button randomly stopped working for me. My fone wont lock at all. I did shut it off by holding the home button and the lock button, but then I couldn't turn it back on, with the reason being my lock/power button will not work. It is not jammed nor loose.
I honestly love the phone. I think it'd a great change to having used the LG G4 and past Galaxy phones.I have this issue though and I'm not sure if it's a big issue or if it's common. Sometimes when I press the power button the screen doesn't wake up until I press the power button a second time. Almost as if it didn't recognize the first press and did the second. It's only happened about 2-3 times in the last 2 days I've had it. I don't know if it's that I am not pushing the button hard enough or if this is a common issue? I thought I had seen something about this somewhere else but I can't find that post/article anymore. Should I get the device replaced? I am on T-mobile BTW.
My sony xperia's power button is not working. the phone charges when i put it the charger in but it does not switch on when i press the power button.
Without the charger i have tried but the phone wont switch on. I tried to do a phone call to the phone but it does not ring. Therefore the phone is off. I let the phone on before and now the phone is off and cant be swtched on.
I've had some problems with my X10 lately. Admittedly this was after a full-on day in the Scottish Highlands where the phone was exposed to cold and rain. Getting back into a warm car the phone started going mental, the led lights flashing like a Christmas party disco and the vibrate constantly on. After a session on the radiator I got some life out of the phone. It basically works except for the following:
- the top left power button to standby/turn the phone off does nothing (the phone switches itself on when you put the battery in)
- same for the bottom middle button to standby, although it will bring the main desktop up.
- the red led light is on permanently (this is so annoying)
I have re-flashed Gingerbread and had the phone on charge for hour upon hour to no avail. I have installed a free widget that puts the phone on standby but I can't power it down without taking the batter out.
getting the power button working and telling me if there's a way (hardware or software) to get the red LED light to go out (this means that any messages/missed calls reders the green light inoperative)
I have a problem with my power button with my xperia z3 dual. It isn't working. I tried the troubleshotting using the pc companion but still it isn't workin.
Did anyone else's power button stop working completely?I can turn on or off my phone or even wake it from sleep. I need to call my phone so I can answer and use it.I hope by tomorrow I get an email from Fedex with the information I need to send the phone back to HTC.
Sucks that I am stuck using Express repair. I wish I could swap the phone.Guess I need to find myself a cheap spare until I get my phone back.Honestly the ball should be able to activate the phone if the power button wont work. Phone manufactures never heard of a fail safe of some sort?
Anyone SGS2 owner encounter power button sometimes not working properly? Not able to sleep/wake and long press for turn off/flight mode. Recently, have to take out battery while flight boarding.FYI: This is my 3rd replacement phone. High possibility causing by Android system. Or another hardware issue by Samsung.
My Nokia Lumia 1520 power button has suddenly stopped working. Things I have already tried are soft reset and hard reset without luck. I don't have the chive app installed which was supposed to cause this issue sometime ago. Also, I can do a soft reset - which means the power button works in some situations, just not with normal on/off operation.
It appears that the power button on my Galaxy S6 isn't working anymore. I have faulted this with samsung and they have asked me to send it to them for repair. Today, I was going to back up my phone but my battery went flat before I could do this and now I cant get the phone back on!! Some have suggested holding down the volume up button then plugging in the usb lead while connected to a computer, it didn't work. I have also tried the volume down button and the home button at the same time while plugged in via usb, this didn't work either. how I can get into recovery mode without using the power button, I really need to get the phone back on, the battery is sealed in.
I have a instinct that has a power button that doesn't work. I looked inside the phone and the mini ribbon with the 2 traces was damaged. Is there any way to replace that, or where to get a replacement ribbon?
I am a brand new user to Blackberry so I still don't know all the ins and outs, I'm hoping someone here can help me out.I have a Storm2 that is about 2 weeks old, it has been working great up until yesterday when the lock screen button just stopped working. I am referring to the method of tapping the power button on the top left to add and remove the lock. The power button still works to turn the phone on etc, but just wont lock the screen. As you can imagine this makes life very difficult with a touch screen phone.
My nexus 5 after some random reboots on latest cataclysm rom started to have a problem that power and volume button were not working at all. I have done everything and even flashed it all back to stock with no luck. The power and volume buttons work perfectly in bootloader mode but dont work in recovery or in the rom.
My iPhone 4S will not power off. At the Home screen I press and hold the power button for x seconds and slide the red arrow button across when the 'slide to power off' message appears. The screen goes black and after a few seconds the white spinner appears and the screen goes back again. After 3-4 seconds -without even touching the phone- the Apple logo appears, followed by the Lock screen and the phone has restarted itself.
