Google Nexus 5 :: Very Low In Call Earpiece Volume After 4.4.2 Update
Mar 14, 2014Black 16GB Nexus 5 here. My in call volume using the earpiece is very very low since the 4.4.2 update. I have the volume maxed out and have already cleared cache, and even data reset once. Did not work at all.
The only way to use the phone making a call is to use a headset or be indoors in a very quiet room. Even then it's hard to hear the caller using the earpiece. I always have to use a headset for making calls.
I remember the in call volume being louder before the 4.4.2 update. After the update, however, the microphone functionality is improved and people can hear me better now (compared to 4.4.0 stock). However, it's hard for me to hear them.I just wanted to see if someone else faced this problem or whether this is a manufacturing defect in my phone.

Dec 5, 2012I have found that the earpiece volume after the JB update, when you pick up a call is very loud and can't be lowered unless you rock the volume buttons during the call. Even if you leave the volume low during the call, on any subsequent calls the volume reverts back to being very lound and you have to do it all over again. I didn't have this issue on ICS. I did notice it on the leaked OTA before the official OTA also. When I reverted back to ICS after the leak and before the official OTA, the issue fixed itself.

Jun 14, 2011I want to like this phone so much but it keeps giving me problems. First, I am having the random reboot problem that is well documented on this and many other forums, so I won't go into that. One other thing that has been happening more frequently however is a problem with call volume. The phone will spontaneously stop using the earpiece for call audio and send the audio to the speakerphone on the back with the lowest volume setting. Adjusting the volume while in the call does not change anything, nor does turning on/off the speakerphone.This occurs during both in-coming and out-going calls. All other phone audio plays at normal volume levels, its just the audio during calls. It is extremely frustrating as the only way to fix it is to reboot the phone, so I have to hang up with whoever I am talking to and call back. Does anyone know any way to solve this problem? I'm hoping the pending Gingerbread update fixes these issues, but I am ready to return the phone and get something else if these aren't fixed.

Suddenly a few weeks ago it started going to the Google Now (aka Google Search?) function (the one you get when you say "OK Google"). Although it will generally recognize the same voice commands as the dialer dialog, there are no voice prompts or responses, so if Google Now has crashed or decides to prompt on screen for "OK or Cancel", I have to get the phone out and look at it to see why it didn't dial.

Jun 26, 2010I feel like my iPhone 4's call volume (when holding it to my ear) seems very low. Maximum volume feels like close to the same as minimum volume on my old phone (not an iPhone). Anything lower than maximum volume is not a comfortable volume and I've always been one to keep it pretty low anyway (not this low). Speaker/iPod volume isn't so bad. But if people are saying that their speaker/iPod/ringer volumes are so loud they need to keep it somewhere in the middle, then I can't say mine is anywhere near that loud either.

Apr 5, 2012I have a strange problem on my iphone.It was mentioned in this forums but none of them solves my problem.1.Problem:While making a call, I can barely hear the voice from the headset. Call volume is max ( also the system volume ) yet it is still too law. There is no plastic cover on my iphone. I have restored the phone to IOS 5.1 yet problem stands still and it is really annoying.2.Problem: While recording a video with the default camera app, sound is not recorded. That is very strange because my mic works quite fine during the calls. When I use a third party video recording or sound recording app from the app store sound is being recorded without any problem yet with the default camera app I can hear some noise only when i tap on the mic with my finger but no sound. This should be a software problem yet restoring or upgrading to the new firmwares hasnt solved the problem.
3.Problem:Speakerphone: As mentioned on the 1.st problem I couldnt hear the voice from the other side during calls, so I tried the speakerphone. Now this is very strange, Spekerphone during a call works fine with the speaker on the bottom of the phone, yet the other side can not hear my voice! :I That is really strange because as I mentioned before my microphone works fine with the third party apps, during normal calls, skype calls, etc.All of these problems since to be software related problems. My Iphone 4 was a gift to me, my uncle bought it from Qatar and its global warranty is unfortunately not valid in Turkey

Apr 17, 2012all of a sudden the call volume on my iPhone 4s has dropped to just a whisper. This happened this weekend unexpectedly. I have checked the forum for similar issues but not found anything that is applicable since
A) I don't have the plastic cover on the front or anything else blocking the speaker on the front.
B) I have tried to increase the call volume while in a call without success.
C) I have had the phone for months without any call volume issues
The only solutions right now are to use an earpiece or put calls on speaker (which I can't do at work). I have tried a hard reset and that did not help. Tonight I will try a reinstall from a previous backup to see if that helps.

Aug 6, 2010This is my first iPhone, and I don't usually make or receive a lot of calls, (I communicate much more with texts.) I received 2 calls recently and it was almost impossible to hear the other person. I tried hitting the + on the side, but it didn't seem to affect the sound volume. Is there something I am missing in the settings, or something else I am missing? I don't use any type of headset/headphones, as those are prohibited at work. I will say I have a Belkin case on the phone, so it's possible I may not have been hitting the volume controls like I thought. I just wondered if there was something I was missing elsewhere. I am hoping this is just operator error and nothing wrong with the phone.
