Xperia Mini/pro :: SK17A Wi-Fi & Bluetooth Won't Turn On
Oct 14, 2012I just picked this very nice phone up yesterday from Point Roberts in Washington State, where I have an address box I use to get packages that can't be shipped to Vancouver, BC, Canada where I live. I got it from Amazon.com.When I got home and tried to connect ot my wi-fi net work it would say turning on wi-fi, and then it would turn off wi-fi! I called SE customer support and spent an hour on the phone with customer support and did the software upgrade to android 4, which they said would solve the problem. It didn't. When I click on wi-fi it still says turning on wi-fi, and gets no further. The scan and add network buttons don't function. The bluetooth does the same thing, won't turn on. They told me to try to connect to another network, but I told them it doesn't even turn on wi-fi so how can I connect to a network?I've tried the repair function and updated the software several times, but nothing changes, it always says wi-fi and bluetooth are turning on and get no further.
I found others on here who solved the problem with software, so I'm sure mine can be solved, just wanna know how. I've even tried using it with and without a sim card in it, but always the same result. WI-FI WON'T EVEN TURN ON!SE said it is defective and needs to be either returned to the store I got it at, which is in NY, or send it in for service. I just got it, it was brand new unopened and doesn't work. Before I bought it I did an online chat with them to make sure any unit bought in the USA would still have warranty service in Canada and was told yes, any SK17A had USA and Canada warranty regardless of if it's bought in Canada or the USA. Now of course after I bought it, the supervisor at SE customer support says he thinks it won't be covered under warranty in Canada because it was bought in the US!I also didn't realize that the headset connector is OMTP and not CTIA, which my Klispch S4A android earset is and won't work. I asked Sony if they make an adaptor between OMTP and CTIA and they said they don't, later on with some googling I found out they do!
I might have to buy the Livesound earset, since it gets me compatibility and adds remote functions. Problem is I don't know if the sound will be as good as my Klipsch, which are terrific. I like the phone, obviuosly just want it to work. If it does, I will probably buy the Livesound earset.Brand new phone is apparently defective. Was not told this wi-fi issue is a common problem and is posted all over the internet.When I called back today, they said they had no record of me in the system and I didn't actually call them yesterday! Sony is now doubting Canada warranty for USA phone they previously said was covered before I bought it.I might have to pay to send phone back to store, even though it is defective out of the box.OMTP headset plug is poorly indicated on Website. I would probably not have bought it knowing it is not CTIA compatible without adapter.Being not told the truth about headset adapter availablity.

Jul 11, 2012i have my Sony sk17a, iīm stay in Latin America and, when i search my model sl 1251-9442 donīt appears in the list than have upgrade, i want to know why, and if have upgrade when come to my country. iīm very sad, because itīs excellent smartphone and i donīt want to change.

Dec 2, 2011I bought my Xperia SK17a a few months back in Vancouver, I then moved to Mexico, I unlocked it here in Mexico and it has always worked fine except for one thing: when I plug in my headphones I can hear my media just fine, but then if I unplug them the phone won't detect that it no longer has the headphones and so the sound and media will keep playing as if it the headphones were still plugged, obviously I can't hear nothing coming out from the built-in speaker because it keeps sending the sound to the 3.5 mm jack. Sometimes I can make it work, this will only happend if I shut down my phone or if I slightly plug in my headphones on the jack but not enought to get the music , after I do that I can hear a constant "tap-tap-tap-tap" as if someone was knocking the door, however I can't always do that or it dosn't always works. I can also hear that "taptaptap..." sound when I record or make a call and have the built-in speaker working, such speaker stop working the second I plug in and out my headphones and if I record a video with the headphones plugged or the speakers not working I can no longer hear such tapping on the video. Also, if i plug in the headphones I can no longer hear anything during a call, but they can indeed hear me, If i want to hear the other person I'd have to plug in my headphones or pray for a miracle to happen.

Dec 28, 2011Just recently noticed that my data consumption was getting higher and higher, it started 2 days ago that now my e-mail app is consuming 1.65 GB of background activity and I have received a SMS from my data supplier that I have used 90% of my capacity for this month! Also this is draining up my battery like crazy , in less than 1 hour my battery went from 100 to 55 ... My cellphone model is SK17A. Could it be for the ICS update?

Dec 12, 2011I just bought my new sk17i a few days ago, its 11W42 at the back, build number 4.0.2.A.0.58 running android 2.3.4. Unfortunately the phone is unusable as it keeps either turning itself off, or totally locking up (I'm not sure which). It won't re-awaken using either the on/off switch or the home button. Also the camera performance, my x10 mini camera is far better than the mini pro. but the main issue here is the device sk17i turns itself off.

Dec 3, 2010a few days ago I bought my SE X10 mini pro.I now have a problem with my battery. A few hours ago, my battery level was around 35%
A few hours later, it remained at 35% indication.Since this couldn't be correct, i restarted the phone. Now, my battery indication was 100%. False again.I turned the phone off. It wouldn't restart.I tried the 'flash device method' by holding back button and putting in computer USB. No help.I tried SEUS. After that, phone switched back on, with false battery indication back to 100%, which is impossible.I noticed that during all this 'fun stuff', my battery refuses to charge. The LED indicator remains green without flashing, the settings screen doesnt say 'charging'. I know that the phone won't charge below 95% battery.So, the phone thinks the battery is 100%, therefore won't charge, and I'm pretty screwed, especially since I fear that once my battery drops dead, the phone won't be able to charge ever since it will think its 100% full...

A friend suggested that it may just need updating, which made sense because I'd been getting update notifications, just hadn't got round to hooking my ohone up to my laptop. So I did just that and installed the 'companion' but when I try to update, it's asking me to insert a memory card. I've never taken it out! Not once. Nov 10, 2010Just wanted to share my experience. I did the update on November 8. I didn't bother to do the backup. The only real important is the contacts and Google have them already. I used the Update Service tool and it worked like a charm. After restarting the phone I had to go through the setup wizard, which by the way is much improved. I now realized that I had lost all my downloaded applications. I downloaded them again from market. Most of them had all the old data, nice. Some games lost all history, no big deal really. My contacts, mail and calendar was downloaded from Google.
I realy like the fact that it is possible to send contacts by SMS. The images from facebook also works very well.
The one thing that I am still not used to is the unlooking. The habbit of pressing the menu button twice is had to kick. I think the new way with the slider is somewhat safer.Now I am waiting 2.2 with tethering. I hope this will be available for X10 mini some time in the future.

1 select sd card in settings on the X10 then select unmount sd card.2 take out the card with the phone still switched on since I can't remove the battery there is no obvious way to depower it
3 put card in my pc's card reader and copy its contents to a folder on the pc (using copy and paste?), I have seen some mention of hidden files - is there any trick here?
4 put the new sd card in the pc and copy the stored contents onto it
5 put the card into the X10
6 what now - how do I get the x10 to accept the new card?

Aug 20, 2011I'm just got an Xperia X10 mini pro, and I have a probably dumb question on how to use it: I can't seem to dial anything once I'm in a call
If I am calling a customer service line, or my voicemail, I need to enter keypad entries. However once the call begins there is nothing I can do to be able to press anything, unless I pop the keyboard out and back in again. I understand there is a proximity sensor but head isn't that big. Am I doing something wrong? I just updated the OS to the latest version of Android 2.1

Jun 29, 2012I just upgraded my mini pro to ICS, it works fine in the first few moments until I realized that my phone can't:
1. Show any album art/cover from the music player. I've tried using the Sony Media Go to add the album arts to the file properties, still it didn't work. Only the 'default' songs from the product i.e brett5000: Globalization, missquerada: Far from love, and 2 others, can display their album cover
2. Update songs. Any new songs that I put into my phone through Sony Media Go aren't shown in the music player, only the old ones are present (though I've deleted it). I found the files when I opened it using a file manager program from the Play Store, but when I played it, none of its properties are present except the title of the song itself. It's not even present in the music player
