Phone doesnt ring or set of tone when texts come in anymore. I push the volume button and everything stays quiet, the volume bar now says incoming call volume for some reason too. Its not in silent mode either.

My iPhone 4s spends most of its life in silet mode, but I need all text messages to be obnoxious so that they will make me. When I had a BLackberry I could set different message notification types for example I can always have text messages loud but could silence anything else. I'm toying aroudn with setting the contact SMS to be the Alarm tone but I'm not sure how this iwll work when I have it in silent...
I've read articles on Google where I'm not the only person seeking this functionality; the most recent article was a doctor that was on-call. While I'm not a doctor, I do work an on-call position.

The issue I am getting is frequently mobile is getting silent automatically No ringtone is ringing, when I am getting incoming call only display is coming, when I am receiving call I cannot hear anything. So everytime I have to switch off mobile and remove battery and restart the phone again, for sometime everything is working fine but after some hours again getting silent.
I can't seem to change my text alert the tick is next to my new alert when i try to change it but the old alert still sounds when i recieve a text, any ideas?

I've tried resetting the sound settings, changing the ringtone etc! (when selecting a different ringtone, the phone DOES NOT make any sound then either, whereas, before it would play the tunes as I went through the "ring tone" menu).
The other sounds, ie key pad, internet etc all play sound!
I keep my phone on silent while in class, and I recently received an audible alert during lecture while on silent. The alert tone was not one that I have set or recognize, and I was only able to view "iPhone alert" before frantically turning it off. Does anyone know what causes these embarrassing audible alerts while in silent mode or know of a way to check past alerts?

Why when i have my headphones in the text message sound as well as incoming call ringtone play thru the speaker on the phone opposed to the headphones?
yet the key sounds when typing play through headphones, as well as the little man who politely reads a new message?
I got it from one year, without problems. From 2-3 months a got this problem, when someone call (but not everytime) me the device is restarting it self. I reinstalled the firmware several times, but it's still the same. The device is R800i, Android version 2.3.4, Buid number 4.0.2.A0.42, Rooted.

My wife rang me yesterday. The answer screen lit up, but there was no ringing sound. I noticed that the icon for 'sound off' was showing at the top. I answered, we spoke and she rang off. The icon changed to 'sound on'!
I have tested this. I watch my phone and ring myself using other phones. As soon as the screen lights up with an incoming call the 'sound-off' icon appears and the phone does not ring. I can still accept the call and have a conversation. When I hang up, the icon returns to 'sound-on'.
I've cracked it. I have an app called Extreme Call Blocker which has just had an update. It appears that this was causing the problem. I turned off the app and Z2 rang perfectly.
my xperia mini pro (built 4.0.2.A.0.62) doesn't play ringtone on incoming call (sometimes it plays only 2 seconds), all sound set correctly (not in silent mode), I tried to call from another phone, there was incoming call but no sound, I can answer it, everything is fine only no ringtone sound. Ok, so I'm trying to work out how the silent modes work on my Z3. I'm failing.
So it seems you can press the volume key and by clicking the 'bell' icon I can scroll through 3 different modes: Loud, Vibrate and Silent.
Seems simple enough, only none of these modes silence apps or games at all.
I just want to put my phone on silence/vibrate and know that even apps and games will be silent too.
I thought I could put into vibrate mode and slide the media volume down to zero and it would rememeber it... then putting back into loud mode would make media slider go back to normal volume?... Nope, I have to change it back to loud mode and remember to slide the media volume back to normal...
My iPhone 5 doesn't vibrate when a call comes-in and in Silent mode.
The option is turned-on in settings to Vibrate the phone with ring or in Silent mode. Tried resetting the phone to factory settings and restored back from iTunes, same issue.

I know we can change the call alert sound. That's easy enough to find. Has anyone found a way to change the chirp itself? I am speaking of the Talk Permit chirp. I figure if the DuraMax and DuraCore can change the sounds, we should be able to. They have like 6 or 7 changeable chirps in the event you don't like a loud beep. I personally would like a subtle tone when I have my ear piece in driving down the road or when I'm at work. An 80dB blast to the eardrum at 4000 Hz kind of stings.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy iphone 4s has been updated to the iOS 5.1.1. Since then it will not play music or give a text message alert sound. We have restored the phone, we have toggled the mute switch, and we have rebooted using the home button and power down and nothing has worked. The volume does not adjust, there is no sound bar when pressing the sound control buttons along the side of the phone. When double tapping the home button on lock screen there is no sound bar. It will ring on incoming calls and the Speaker phone does work while in call. All of the volume controls will work correctly when the headphones are in music plays, text tone works, video sound works but as soon as they are removed it reverts back.

It was 5 weeks old and developed a screen issue, went back to repair centre, came back fixed.....All good.....Well no.Now, when the silent icon on the drop down curtain says silent, its not, when you select to change this from the long press of the power on/off button (It gives you a turn device off option, deactivate/activate data, Airplane mode and Silent off and on)The turn on silent mode actually does the opposite?

The notification sound (when an email/sms/calendar pushes) during a call is so annoying and uncomfortable (there will be a weird sound in the earphone and then the normal notification sound, too distracting). Is it possible to disable that weird sound?
