Nokia :: N800 - Opera Browser Comes (back) To Maemo
May 11, 2010
The Nokia 770 tablet (just as the Nokia 7710 S90 phone) came bundled with Opera. This changed on the N800 when Nokia opted to use microb which we all now know and love..
Thanks to a team of developers working on the side, Opera has come back to Maemo:
i just got my n900 and wow what a device but the problem im having is the app manager its not loading the maemo org and the maemo extras im on version 3.20..... and can someone give me the field i have to fill up in the catalogue maybe thats the problem or i need to software update my phone .i like it how i can overclock the n900 from 600 mhz to 1000 mhz in less than 30 sec.
hey friends,i wanted to know if there is any way of switching opera mini browser to default browser as the nokia browser is much slower than the opera mini. I would also like to know what is making thw nokia browser so slow compared to others.
I can't use Opera mini web browser at all! It loads and finally throws up the following error:"Failed to connect to the Internet."It's frustrating coz I was (am) able to use Opera mini without any glitch on N73.
Is there any way I can set-up Opera Mini as my main default browser (for example if I recieve a text message including a web link so that I can open it with Opera rather than Nokia's browser)
I've read a few threads about people wanting to change there default apps, and as I've just set Opera Mobile as my default web browser, thought I'd let people know in case they weren't aware you could do it
I've installed the Opera Mobile 10 browser and have set it as the default browser in the default programs menu. Still it does not seem to be the default browser. It seems as if the phone just ignores this setting. If I go to internet from the Media menu (upright corner) etc. I still get the Nokia browser.
I went to settings and then to application settings, changed it there and still it uses the normal browser. I instald the normal opera and mini. I use it all the time but my phone cant seem to see the new browser n8 bella?
How do I set opera mobile as the default browser on a Nokia N900? I want all websites, e.g. links in emails, etc. to automatically open in opera mobile not in microb.
I changed the Default applications | Browsing internet setting from Web to Opera Mini. This does not seem to affect anything. Unless I actually start Opera Mobile, any application that has a URL link will start the default N97 browser instead of Opera Mobile.
Is there something else I need to do in order to change the default browser on the N97?
How can one make Opera mobile to be the phone's default browser so that it opens vs Nokia browser when clicked on a link in emails? Nokia web browser opens despite Opera is set as default?
I recently bought an unlocked curve 8520 from Smartone Vodafone in HK and am now in China using china mobile service. I have not signed up for the blackberry email service -- my plan was to download the dedicated gmail app.
On my old Sony Ericsson W888 I was able to download the dedicated gmail java app and was using it on china mobile. I have tried to download the gmail application to the curve via both the pre-loaded browser and the hotspot wifi browser but am not allowed to -- there is an error message saying I can't access gmail and have to access gmail via the Internet. I can get to gmail using the browser, but my goal is to download the dedicated application which has a better user experience.
After these steps, I downloaded the Opera browser, thinking perhaps if I use a different browser, I could directly access the internet and download the gmail application. I downloaded the Opera mini v5 beta onto my Macbook and loaded it onto the curve via the BDM software but it does not run after loading the application. I then downloaded Opera v4.2 from its website I accessed via the Hotspot wifi browser on the curve directly. This would not run either.
Separately, I tried to access the mobile.blackberry.com homepage to download new themes but I received a page that said: "Unfortunately, your current device and/or browser are not compatible for this site." I was hoping to download some new themes to replace the vodafone pre-loaded theme.
At this point, it seems my blackberry is bascially locked down and not open to new applications -- I have not been able to successfully download / access the gmail app (which has worked here in China on another sony ericsson phone through the same carrier), the 2 opera browser versions, or the main mobile.blackberry.com site.
Questions for the forum:
1. is this a carrier issue where China Mobile is walling off access? any work-arounds? I have tried to access the internet via just a hotspot wifi browser through a regular wifi connection, but still no success.
2. why can't the curve even access blackberry's own mobile.blackberry.com home page? it's surprising that the site won't even recognize one of the company's own devices.
3. is there any way to download the gmail java app via the PC and then load it onto the curve via BDM? after searching online, I cannot file a standalone gmail app which I can download and transfer via the USB cable. does it exist and if so, please let me know where to download it.
Will, after I bought the new N900 (two days ago) and paid $$$$ and missed up my expenditure budget for this month :mansad: I found out that no MMS for N900 and Maemo 5 is not supporting MMS this is even made me sadder? ,and what made me want to Cray is the fact that two days ago Nokia VP announced that Maemo version 6 is on its way., but what I hope is that Maemo 5 can be upgraded to Maemo 6 and the issue of Missing including MMS can be solved with an upgrade for Maemo 5 to Maemo 6 (Hatmattan).
I'm having an issue with my updating Maemo.Application Manager Update Maemo 5 3.2010.02-8.002 16.2MB error message Not enough memory in target location.root memory 86%/dev/...18% another issue possibly related.ATT - my wife sent pics&message from here phone and I never received. Later a test message with a few words received OK.I've been tracking other threads for help but.....still lost. any resource I can purchase or pursue to better understand the operating system and/or troubleshooting techniques?
I so love Opera now and the speed is amazing. Is there anyway to make it my default browser? When I click a link in an email it opens up the incredibly slow native BB browser. When I go into settings, the only choices are internet browser and hotspot browser.
I'd like some opinions specifically from storm2 owners as to 1) which browser is the fastest?
2) which browser do you like the best?
I've read on the forums that the new bolt browser is the fastest but personally I'm not sure. I'd like to know from s2 owners so that all other different factors between different models of BB phones are held constant.
I have installed the Opera Mini 5 browser, and I am thinking of making it the default browser. When I go to Browser Options>Browser Configuration or Browser Options>General Properties, the list of available browser options does not include Opera Mini.Anyone got any suggestions?
How do I change the Opera Mini browser's default home page? If you have the Samsung Convoy 2 you have probably noticed that the default shortcut assigned to the left side of the directional pad is to the Opera Mini browser. So far so good, I like that. It opens immediately. But it happens to go to a pre-assigned webpage, the My Verizon Account sign in, and throws up a security form that I have to click past - every time! I called Verizon tech support, they had a handset on hand and confirmed the behavior and the presumed irritation of their user base. But all they could do was to point me toward Samsung and said if the manufacturer gets enough complaints they might change it. Also, FYI, if you are trying to read the address it goes to, because you want to work on the problem, there are two.
