I suppose its not that important and I could work around it by creating groups and giving them a personal ringtone but its messy so is there a way can edit a contact stored on the phone and apply a ringtone for that contact on the E51 and if so how can I do it as when i am editing the contact name there is a plethora of adress and other details but amongst them all I cannot see "ringtone" setting.

I know how to change the ringtones for individual contacts. My problem is some of them will not change from default. I am not trying to do anything drastic, and I have not rooted my phone. I am using the ringtones provided built into the phone.
I do not know how long this has been an issue. I just tried last night to change one contact's ringtone and it would not move from default. I went through my phone randomly picking contacts that were all listed as default. Some would change, others would not.

I am brand new and charging phone. I have contacts with pictures and customized ringtones from old LG env. Staying on Verizon. I know I can use Verizon Backup Assistant to convert contacts but will that only convert the names and numbers, emails?

Then, I updated the software.Like many people here I was frustrated with the lock feature being changed/removed/unnecessary, and not being able to use the left key to lock it (I don't want the hassles of entering a password, I've already found that "solution" to the problem). Also, the green aol mail icon that represented my email changed to just the normal default icon. This may seem minor, but I am very particular with my phone and was beyond displeased that things had changed.
Anyway - I downgraded, hoping that everything would be back to normal. Being a new user, I wasn't smart enough to back up my phone, blah-blah-blah, I took it up to Verizon, had them add my contacts from a previous phone, then set out to re-customize the phone AGAIN.
I am now running v5.0.0.337. Wordmole, Sudoku, and a few other games that came with the phone have vanished. I set a downloaded ringtone as my default tone - I did this for all profiles - but all entries in my contacts list still say "Ringer_ClassicPhone" - the OLD default. I have set custom ringers for a few people, and have no problems with anything. However, if anyone else that just has the supposed "default" tone calls, it's the classicphone ringer - NOT the tone I have selected. I am not going to go through 100+ contacts and manually change them to the tone and volume that should ALREADY be set!
I just went through with the newest update (system version 4.5.91.MB860.ATT.en.US) and I am now unable to assign ringtones for contacts, and can't change my regular/universal phone ringtones to anything other than the defaults. Anybody else having these problems, or know how to get around them?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 5800 that I have been troubleshooting for the past Month. We have been to the provider who has now replaced the phone twice in the past two months. Calling out appears to be fine. However when customizing the phone I am unable to set picture and a ringtone to a contact in the contact list. The Contact is saved on the phone. When the person dials in the picture will display correctly but the ringtone will play a default ring not a custom file as selected. This has heppened on all 3 of the phones. I am down to the OS of the phone which the provider says is up to date.

After finishing the call, the screen goes back to main menu.... but the contacts-app sticks active in the background. In order to close that, i have to long-press the button, switch to contacts, and close. Which is a little bit fussily.....

View 19 Replies View RelatedI broke the screen of my 6280 so used a different phone for a while and now that I've repaired it and put the sim card back in the phone displays the number rather than the name in the text inbox. When I try to add the number to the contact it says it's in use for the contact bla bla. The numbers get displayed in the +44 format and are saved in the domestion 07xx format but I can't overwrite it because it then recognises the number.

However, if I remove the memory card, all the ringtones are available again. If I put the card back in, they're gone again !

Just got my Lumia 920 and very happy with it... Ex Iphon user and BB for work, cut the SIM car, stuffed it in Nokia and Magic on the go.Anyway, findin my way arund it nice and easy. One thing though: how can I listen to Ringtone before selecting it for when poeple call?? When I hold finger on the tone I want, only option is to delete it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to assign a ringtone to a contact on a E51 with latest firmware.When editing the contact, I select Options->Ringing tone, and then the only two selections available are "Download sounds" and "Default tone", even though I have many ringtones which show up when changing the ringtone for a profile.I thought this is something I had been able to do in the past.The only thing different now is that I have my contacts synchronized with a Mail for Exchange (3.0) account, could that be the problem?The same thing happens if I try to assign a ringtone to a group. This can't be right, I could do that even in my old Nokia (3110 or something like that). How to do that? At least there's got to be a 3rd party program for that available in Ovi.

Except for one of my contacts, I can not seem to set either mp3's or aac's as a custom ringtone for a contact. Though I have gone through the process multiple times, only my custom default ringtone plays when I receive a call.
I would appreciate any and all help that will assist me in getting this resolved. To say I am slightly frustrated would be an understatement.
there is a plug-in for custom ringtones per contact! it is in the Extras repository open xterm apt-get install per-contact-ringtones you will notice that it is integrated with the contacts manager.after you open a contact, tap the menu and you will now have an option "custom ring tone"

If someone were to call, the ringtone SHOULD be the my personal ringtone, instead it is the Nokia Tune tone. But the issue is that it changes constantly, so this person could call the first time, the ringtone would be the Nokia Tune. The next time they call, say, perhaps 5 minutes later, it'd be my personal ringtone.I've already checked and the ringtone (a music file) is definitely still there and I can play it through the music player.
The 'General' profile is where this particular ringtone is set and it's still set there too. I've tried changing it to another music file, then changing it back to the original file but still the problem persists.I've even gone as far as removing the entire music library from the phone (all music files are located on the Memory Card) and re-transferring it over to the phone from my PC.
It's not particular to any contact and sometimes, it'll play my personal ringtone for a call and the next call it'd be the Nokia Tune. It's only ever the Nokia Tune that it changes to by itself.
I'm having trouble setting my music as ringtones on my X2. In the ringtone selection menu, there is a folder called "Music files", but the phone says it is empty, and if I try to access it, it says "Folder contents unavailable for selection". However, the music files are working with the media player without any problems.
