Motorola Droid Razr :: HTC Unlocked Bootloader?
May 10, 2012
For those of us wishing Motorola would unlock the bootloader like HTC, it looks like AT&T is cracking down on HTC. I've been reading the new HTC One or X or whatever it is, running on AT&T will not be able to use the unlock tool. As HTC is losing market share I guess they just don't have the juice they once did with the US carriers to

The world knows updates in a Motorola phone is very slow! This leaves power users with no other option but to go for custom ROMs. Even there locked bootloader is always a very big problem! Moto promised long back to unlock bootloaders. Defy and Defy+ are now quite old phones and will receive no update either! So now is there any hope that the bootloaders will be unlocked? This deters most devs and power users from getting Moto phones inspite of an excellent build quality. Hope we get a reply and this thread don't die without any use!

I noticed the Photon Q post said there was plans for other new devices to get unlockable bootloader as well. Will this phone be considered for inclusion in this, or ship with a permanently locked bootloader? It's important on my decision to purchase this Razr V or not.

I have a droid2, bought used but stock to my knowledge. Has received many OTA updates previously no issues. Accepted an OTA update this morning (verizon, not sure what code it was, I didn't look closely enough). Update failed and phone now only boots to bootloader. I have tried the power up while holding X key, and that gets me to triangle and droid guy, but from the search key does nothing, I cannot get the menu up to reset the phone.

I just want to ask if there's a way to find out if my bootloader is unlocked? My TrackID stopped working when my friend borrowed my phone and upon searching here the only possible root cause it by having the bootloader to be unlocked but when I checked if I can update my phone via PC Companion it works fine loading and updating my FW/SW and now I really don't know what happened to this phone. I'm afraid that my friend did something to it and maybe he really unlocked my bootloader.

What I know is that the phone can upgrade into ICS using PC Companion, but what I would like to know is whether it's possible to upgrade my phone using the PC companion even if I have its bootloader unlocked. Since if I accept OTA upgrade, it might result to bricking it.

I just got a supposedly new unlocked RAZR from ebay and the IMEI stamped on the back is different from the one displayed on the phone when I enter *#06#. Strangely, only 3 of the 15 digits are different, the rest are the same.Is it a natural part of unlocking that the IMEI is changed in the process? That doesn't seem right. I want to activate it with T-Mobile Prepaid today since this is the last day of the $25/144 minute credit deal, but I'm not sure which IMEI to use and I sure don't want to get in trouble with T-Mobile.

I forgot my unlock pattern and I don't have my device in ADM ... But the bootloader is unlocked, so I think I can install any image I want, right? Could this be a way to get into my device? So any solution to unlock my device without doing a hard reset?

[code]....
There is the encryption key. This is not anything groundbreaking for the average user at this very second, but what it does mean to the average user, eventually, is that after Sony Ericsson stops releasing full version updates for our device (which is VERY likely to happen after the GB update scheduled for next month) The great people over at XDA developers will be able to provide us with full version updates that do not lack any features like they have to date. For example, when the 2.1 update was released, the devs at XDA got their hands on the code and released 2.2 for x10. However, the camera driver needed to be re-written for it to run at all...and even then it was not HD until recently because of a bootloader workaround. Now that the bootloader is wide opened we will see more updates, native wifi tethering, and if the hardware can handle it, we will see updates to full 4-point multitouch and 16million color displays. This also means we will be able to get full MIUI and CyanogenMOD support, and if you are really daring, you may even be able to make your x10 run WP7.Good things will come from this....development is still in the infant stages as this was just reported yesterday.

I purchased the Moto Elite Sliver because my Plantronics Pro HD would drop its bluetooth every single time a call was answered or placed. I did a little research and found it may be related to a conflict with the 2.0 headset and 4.0 phone. Moto Sliver is BT 3.0 and was working great until this week. Now every single time a call is disconnected, the headset disconnects and reconnects. Reboots galore, problem still exists. Uninstall/reinstall Motospeak, problem still exists. Sometimes the bluetooth will not connect at all (reboot required). The Droid RAZR Maxx and the Elite Sliver are supposed to be state of the art MOTOROLA, I make a living with my phone and headset.

I have WiFi enabled. Often when I am near a wireless access point, my RAZR M still uses 4G. It's as if the WiFi is going to sleep when I power the screen off, but it doesn't wake up again. Turning WiFi off and on makes it reconnect. It seems to happen mostly when I'm at home, where I also use the Motorola flip stand with "ESP" smart charger, and a NetGear dual-band wireless router/access point.

The Verizon Sales assistant assured me that I'd be able to Sync my Outlook with my Droid Razr as easily as I synced it with my old Blackberry Tour. Now, after several days' worth of set-up, google searches, forum searches and FAQ's, I'm come to the conclusion that Motorola did NOT build this function into the Droid Razr, and I have to pay a hefty fee for a decent 3rd-party app to do what my Blackberry did for free. Have I missed something?

I frequently hit adjacent keys while texting on my old Droid X. A larger screen and of course 4G and a faster processor were appealing as well. As the Razr HD models sport screens almost as large as the S3 I ran to see them on their first day out of the gates. What a disappointment! Holding my old Droid X up against them I saw that the usable screen sizes were identical. Namely 4.3" unless playing videos in which case the video filled up the Razr HD's 4.7" screen. I couldn't find anything else that would fill up the screen. Perhaps, photos might. But internet browsing, texting and whatever else I tried occupied a 4.3" inset within the 4.7" screen. So why have a 4.7" screen at all? The Galaxy S3 on the other hand fills up the entire 4.8" screen with not only video but everything else, including texting, messaging, web browsing, and everything else I tried. So what gives? Why did you even create a 4.7" screen if you aren't going to utilize it to its full potential?
