I am looking for a way to lower my data usage. I am only using one email account and removed all the widgets and facebook. I just installed the app my data manager and I notice that something called RICH CLIPBOARD is what is using most of my data. Does anybody know what this is, and how can I stop it or reduce the usage?
View 4 RepliesI checked out my data usage on the att website and it turns out surprisingly that i consistently use under 200mb a month.
1. I beejive im every work day for at least 2 hours on edge(don't tell my boss) but it suprisingly only comes out to only about 4mbs per day (if i used 3g would the data consumption be higher?)
2. I maybe use slingplayer 1 day a month on 3g (sad) about 10mbs i think
3. I grab email manually by opening up the mail app maybe twice a day max.
Do you think i should switch asap? or is it best recommended to view iphone 4 data usage first in case i upload 720p video (which i doubt they will let you do)
i'm currently contemplating about upgrading my old phone to iphone 4 and adding the 200mb/month plan. i just have a few questions about the usage though.
if i moderately use
-meebo with push for im'ing
-textplus
-facebook
and no
-Internet
-streaming music/videos
-sending/viewing emails with photos/attachments
and having wifi a pretty decent amount in the day.would i have a good chance of staying under 200mb?if not, i could probably remove facebook because that has pictures, and then would i have a good chance?
as we know in android sitting,we can activate that option but on my phone there is nothing like that + i can't connect to internet throw any data plan in my country " Saudia Arabia ".

I've never used over 120MB a month and have only been away from wifi 1-2 days so far. All I did on 3G is surf a few web pages. Any ideas about what could be causing the leap in usage?

Is 200mb of data a month enough data? I'm thinking 2gb vs 200mb plan.If I'm mainly within wifi reach, (home, school, cafe...mcdonalds) and only use the 3g when i'm updating facebook, email, and picture messaging.. is 200mb enough?

I can use my BB to access the web using free wi-fi as i have been doing with my last 4 smartphones.Big mistake. i have been charged 55 us last month, for data transfer use , i ran to my planŽs assistance office ( telcel in Mexico ), and the answer i got was. you have to get a data plan from us to be able to use wi-fi ( obviuosly i stared at her , just nodding my head ).There is no point in having a device that has acces to wi fi networks , if i cant access the wi fi network without you data plan, so i got the lady to bring the tech guy. His response was...naaahhh...it will access the wi fi. but weŽll charge u anyway. you need to disable the network from the phone and only leave the wi fi option on so you can access without any other charge, but this will leave you with no phone connection.
Is this real? did i just spend 399us in a gadget that has wi fi capabilities but will not be able to get on any wi fi connection form home or work, without being charged for data transmission over my cell providers network?cmon this sounds as stupid as it does in my head ? i would be really disapointed if i just left my old Nokia E71 SPhone, for this beautiful BB Curve 8520 THAT DOES NOT CONNECT TO THE WI Fi.

For $30/mo you get unlimited 4G tethering on your phone which is a bargain compared to the tablet plans especially considering 4G is 10x the 3G speeds.It makes we want to run out now and get a Samsung Charge so I can drop my 3gB Xoom plan. I'm going to stick with my Xoom data for now and hold out a three or four weeks for the Bionic. Hopefully Verizon won't change this offer before the Bionic comes out.

But every few minutes or so I get the alert saying that I "Cannot activate cellular data network - You are not subscribed to a cellular data service", and it's really annoying because it lights up my iPhone all the time and kills my battery. It's also really annoying - it comes up whenever I'm typing a message or playing a game; literally when I do ANYTHING on my phone. I do not have a data plan, but I have used 'unlockit.co.nz' to install a Fake APN to my iPhone to block data. Rogers has also given me a data block. This has been going on ever since I bought the phone, I thought installing a Fake APN would stop it but I guess not. I can't really restore since I have a lot of stuff on this iPhone already.. but if that's the only option then I will be forced to. I used to have an unlocked Fido 3G (about 2 months ago) without data and it never gave me this alert, do you think it has something to do with my 3GS being locked to Rogers?
This phone is a jailbroken iPhone 3GS (model MC143C) running version 3.1.3 (7E18) and locked to the "Rogers 5.0" network. If it helps the modem firmware is 05.12.01.if there are no real solutions, I still have 2 months left on my warranty. Would Apple fix it or give me a new one if I un-jailbreak it?

Since Verizon discontinued my Family Share Plan (which included unlimited data for $20 a month) I had to switch to a specified maximum use plan. When at home, I keep Wi-Fi on as well as Data Plan. Will the OS (4.1.1) automatically choose Wi-Fi or do I have to shut off the Data Plan to minimize usage? I installed Smart Wi-Fi Toggler but I'm not sure if I can set the Data Plan to go off at Home and On when away.

Then today got a text saying that i have almost reached my 2gb data limit. So I installed the My Data Manager app and it is showing that the Contacts app is constantly communicating with something. I have an corporate exchange account for my email and contacts.How do i tell what is causing the contacts to constantly communicate?

My Data is saying I have used 5.5mb of my 200 mb plan. At&T says I've used 6.08 MB. I've reinstalled My Data Manager but it won't let me put in 6.08 or any decimal points. I like the layout and I'm wonder is there any data manager programs that are extremely accurate and will work sort of the same way?

Bluetooth DUN for instance.It's there but in name only. It has 0 bytes; the data, cache and the app itself. Its not limited to BT DUN as well, there are several others. View 1 Replies View Relatedmy wife and i both have the Atrix 2...and our bill from ATT starts over on the 24th of every month and i have an app for data monitoring to tell exactly how much data we've used (since we only have the 200M pkg and we have WIFI at house and work), on the 24th (the day that data resets) my wife got a notice from the monitoring app (ONAVO (which i recommend for everyone to try)) saying that a data hogger was using a lot of data. she checked and it said two apps used a TON of data (she hadnt turned her WIFI on yet or it did it in the car on the way home) in just a couple minutes.These two apps were "Rx Networks PGPS Seed Downloader" and "Phone" (whatever that "App" is.) so i quickly clicked the option in the Onavo app that restricts these apps uses to WIFI only.Now, i haven't figured out *** these apps do, but i only found a thing on the Rx networks one, but still not sure why all the data.

I figured i wouldn't search google for "Phone" app. that'd just be dumb.So anyway, the Rx networks app incurred 37.9MB and the "phone" app used 20.9MB.
my data connectivity very often turns off and won't turn on again by itself. For example when I wake up in the morning, I see the WiFi symbol and the network connectivity symbol. The data symbol in the middle (H+, E or G) is missing. It sometimes won't turn on all day unless I switch the airplane mode on and off.

This was a major way that I communicated with my farflung family. With the Atrix, I can't seem to get this to work without going to settings and enabling the data network for everything that might want to use it ( and that seems to be a considerable number of things despite my efforts to choose wireless only options.) I realize I can turn it on briefly to send (though that's a multi-step process) but there's no way to anticipate when an MMS message is coming in.
my unlocked AT&T atrix 4g from the states is working all fine except with data network over the gsm (Vodafone) network, with WIFI it' ok.

why two separate data manager apps are telling me that Contacts used 2.6 GB in a month? What is Contacts doing? This is a stock app, part of Android. What can it possibly be doing all day long that uses so much data? This is like the icing on the cake of about 20 other huge complaints I have about this terrible phone.
I am shocked when I see good reviews on Atrix2 - there is almost nothing good about this thing. From the loud noise it makes when the battery is low (nearly deafens me with headphones) to the fact that it doesn't turn the screen on when a reminder goes off or a text message comes in - I just don't get this Android thing - why do I need to spend money to change settings like that? My 2003 Windows Mobile phone was more user friendly than this.
Also in the last month it keeps showing "com.motorola.services.main process shutting down" or something - constantly all day long like every 5-10 minutes of use. In the last few weeks the screen brightness has gone whacko - keeps getting bright and dim randomly. I can go on and on..
I was just curious to know if this is considered a known bug / will be fixed in the gingerbread update.After using wifi and walking out of the wifi zone (eg, out of my house and down the street) I will check my phone to find that the mobile data connection has not re-started itself, and only a reboot will fix this issue. Other issues have been my phone will get stuck only being able to upload (and not download the resulting pages/data) as well as the symbol disappearing completelyafter a little bit of research I found this may be a problem with 2.2.2 froyo and for my sake I hope it is, but I was just curious to make sure it is fixed in future updates.

This needs to be done, occasionally, in order to freshly repopulate the contacts, and not end up with duplicates in the phone. The phone gurus at Best Buy and AT&T were also frustrated by the absents of this "Delete All" contact's feature.
