IPhone :: Restore 4s And Got An Error 1602 On ITunes
May 21, 2012
I was trying to restore someone iPhone and got an error 1602 on iTunes and now I can't use the phone. It is stuck with the iTunes sync symbol on the phone and can not be restarted.
Info:
iPhone 4S, Windows 7, just shows iTunes sync on the phone
I plugged my iPhone into my laptop, battery was down to 7%, figured it was time for a recharge. When iTunes popped up, it asked me if I wanted to download and install the 5.1 update, and naturally, I chose to do both. So, the phone is now syncing up and udating...but it's taking unusually long. Then it says an error occured and actions could not be completed (error 1602). I clicked the MORE INFO button on the pop-up, which opened apple.com, but the site never responded.
Right now, there is the common picture depicting that the phone needs to be connected to iTunes. So, here I am with iTunes closed, plugged the phone in, and iTunes stays closed. So, I open iTunes manually and there is no connection. I go to My Computer, and it registers as an iPod hard drive, but completely inaccessable. When I close iTunes and unplug the phone, I get nothing but the picture saying connect to iTunes, but iTunes doesnt like my phone today. The 5.1 update killed my phone. What can I do? Only iTunes or App Store software installed?
Connected phone to pc. itunes comes up, says there is a software update available, I go yes, download and update. Come back some time later, I have "an unknown error occurred" and I think "1602".Now all I get on the phone is an icon for a usb connection ppointing at iTunes logo. Otherwise its completely unresponsive. No sign of the phone on My computer panel.
There is this 2G iPhone that is (almost?) bricked.
As far as I know, the phone did work until recently, was not dropped, but suddenly got stuck at this screen:
The owner is not computer savvy, and is unsure whether the firmware has been updated (by chance or not).
Right now the phone is stuck at the "Restore needed" screen. What have I done so far: Put it in DFU, iTunes finds is, and tells me it needs to be restored; I have downloaded the 1.1.4, 2.2, and 3.1.2 firmwares for the 2G; I have tried to SHIFT+RESTORE many times, and every single time it ends up giving me error 23.
I tried all of the above-mentioned firmwares, have tried with iTunes 9.0.3, 8.2 and 7.5 MANY times - with the same result: Error 23.
There is something interesting: when I tap the "i" on the screen, it shows a windows that says: IMEI: Unknown, and ICCID: Unknown
I have searched online for a whole day now, and people say that this is related to a hardware problem with the modem; others said that it could be fixed by flashing w/ older firmware and older iTunes version - both of which I have tried.
So bottom line is that after all I have tried I am still nowhere. And ideas what else I could try?
