how do i get a new iPhone 3gs on vodafone network unlocked by apple? I bought from a friend who got them from an office manager who has updated all the phones to 4s's.

I've been in EU for almost a year with an Jailbroken and unlocked iPhone.I've been using Vodafone since I got here and things have been great. Yesterday, I asked my brother in law if I could use his T-Mobile SIM card just to see how it would work because a friend from back in the U.S.sent me a pre-paid T Mobile SIM for when I got back.
Ever since then, even with my or my wife's Vodafone SIM card in the iPhone, it is attached to the T-Mobile network regardless if I choose Vodafone manually in the carrier settings. I thought at first it was still Vodafone but just reading it as T Mobile, but I no longer get 3G service and only get that stupid little ˚ icon. It's likely not a HUGE deal since I'm going back to the U.S. on Tuesday, but I would just like to know that my phone isn't totally messed up.
I say that only because my iPhone is steadily becoming crap. The wifi stopped working about 2 months ago out of the blue, as if the hardware didn't exist and now this.For the record, this is an 3G iPhone (not 3GS) running iOS 3.0 If I restore the phone back to factory settings, I lose my JB and unlock, correct ?

It works fine on Airtel, Idea etc in India. Vodafone India blames the phone and the phone vendor (in USA) blames the network. I used another Vodafone SIM also - did not work.

The phone works fine on both the network whereas the Data plan works with T-Mobile and it does not work with Straight Talk [With their SIM i don't see Cellular Data Network option and its APN setting / MMS / Prpxy setting ].

It's always worked fine with various SIMs and varuious carriers - I travel a lot so unlocked was my chocie as I use SIMs in each country I visit. Recently in UK, I bought and installed a prepaid (pay as you go) SIM while I was there and now I find the phone is locked to that carrier. Well, at least it will not make calls - it'll recieve calls and it'll send and recieve SMS messages, but I can't make any calls - it just begins the calling process then gives call failed message. Now I find the problem, I've moved on to another country so getting the carrier to see to it is impossible for me. So now I have a locked phone because somehow a carrier has been able to disable the factory unlock by using their SIM I installed. This is a carrier I have not used before with this phone.
how can that happen? How can a carrier have that sort of power over the device? How can I get back to the original unlocked state? I've tried a total Restore, but no change - still locked.

View 5 Replies View Relateda bold 9700 and it is unlocked but orig from rogers. i am using it on fido and i have called them many times in the past 2 days to fix the problem i am having. i stopped using the phone for a few months as i was using an acer liquid phone. now i am back using the bb bold for various reasons and all i seem to be having is problems. the phone works when i am at work no problem but when i am at home all it does is search for a network. fido has tried adding an imei number to my account settings and we reset the phone from my end. this still has not fixed my service loss i have been getting. what settings should i have on the phone to stop this from happening? one of the reasons i had started to use this phone again was the fact that for some reason i had waken up in the am to look at my acer phone and it had told me that i had no service. so i took out the battery and the sim card and put it back in the phone and still i got no service. i put the sim card in the bb and i got the same thing. so i put the sim card into a non smartphone celly that i got and it worked fine now why would this be?
